  • Patent number: 5860213
Abstract: A frame assembly and method of making includes forming a series of pairs of aligned, inwardly extending markings in the form of detents or holes at selected positions in opposed track side walls preferably before forming the sheet metal into the U-shaped profile, providing aligned holes at selected positions in end portions of each stud, inserting the end portion of the stud inside a track so each marking is in an adjacent hole of the aligned pairs of holes and markings, and punching through the markings into each hole to form a hollow stem that draws the end of the stud into the track and the end of the stud against the top surface of the base wall of the track, brings the centers of the holes and markings in alignment to positively fasten each stud to each track. A further step may include flaring or flattening the open end of the stem to a selected angle to form a rivet head.

  • Patent number: 5860265
Abstract: A metal beam with a thermal break between opposite sides and method of making is disclosed. In a first embodiment a huck rivet extends through aligned holes in a pair of opposed beam sections having a base wall portion and a side wall portion. In a second embodiment a punch/swedge operation forms a rivet in the base wall portion of one beam section that extends through the other base wall portion of the other beam section. In a third embodiment a series of spaced, alternating tabs and recesses are formed in the beam section and the tabs overlap and are riveted at overlapping tabs only to form a gap in the formed beam. In a fourth embodiment oppositely opening hooks are formed in the inner sections of first and second beam sections that interfit and are seamed together to fasten the two beam sections with a continuous seam along the center of a composite beam.

  • Patent number: 5855773
Abstract: The present invention is a centrifuge bowl housing and cover latch suitable for use in a blood separation system. The housing is mounted on shock absorbers to minimize transmission of vibrations from the centrifuge. The housing is configured to retain spilled liquids, efficiently collect the spilled liquids, drain liquids away from the drive means, and drain liquids out of a drain port to a collection container. The housing has a transparent cover that opens to allow loading of centrifuge bowls into the housing. The cover is a shatter resistant material and when closed, seals the top of the housing, retaining blood components and flying pieces of a centrifuge bowl if the bowl breaks. The cover has a latch that prevents the centrifuge from spinning when the cover is open and prevents opening of the cover when the centrifuge is spinning.

  • Patent number: 5845435
Abstract: A fastening support device and system particularly suited for shielded gutters is disclosed. The device has upper and lower support arm portions spaced a fixed distance apart and shaped to fit under and nest inside complementary shaped sections of the gutter to hold the front free end portions of the gutter at the same elevation and maintain a substantially uniform gap in the gutter. A base portion connected to the arm portions abuts against the back wall of the gutter and a threaded fastener extends between the arm portions and through the base portion and back wall of the gutter to fasten the device to a support structure. A fastening support device for a two-piece shielded gutter allows the shield to be formed separate from the gutter and readily connect to and be detached from the gutter channel.
