  • Patent number: 5487679
Abstract: An electric connector disclosed for a wide range of conductor sizes has interfitting female and male connector members that flare conductive strands of an electric conductor or cable. The outer contact surface is provided by a malleable material having a hardness less than the hardness of the strands and the strands are pressed into said outer contact surface to increase the contact surface area between the strands and male connector member. A converging passage between the connecting members provides a substantially uniform distribution of the strands around the periphery and press the strands against an outer contact surface of the male connector member and the surfaces of the connector members are shaped in such a way as to provide increased contact surface area and avoid breaking, weakening or kinking of the strands.

  • Patent number: 5451273
Abstract: A cast alloy article suitable for improving the combustion characteristics and efficiency of a liquid fuel is disclosed. This cast alloy article is chiefly characterized by having coarse and irregular surface contour of interspersed peaks, valleys and pores that provide for increased surface area for increased fluid contact and provide for increased turbulence in fluid flow. The article has interspersed dendritic areas of solid dendrites and interdendritic areas of solid metal that also provide maximum surface area contact and turbulence of fluid flow of a fluid that is passed over the surface thereof. This article is made by heating selected quantities of selected metals including copper, zinc, nickel and tin to a temperature of above about 2000.degree. F. but not in excess of 2400.degree. F. intermixing the heated metals, pouring the heated metals into sand mold of a particular mesh to accomplish a coarse and irregular contour with pores and retaining the poured body at a temperature between about 2000.

  • Patent number: 5202638
Abstract: Apparatus and method for measuring power density in an energized volume of water using either a measurement of voltage gradient or current density for use in determining optimal electrical power parameters for electrofishing, in-water electroshocking, electrical barrier control and the like. Specific probes for either measurement are disclosed. A calculator or programmed microprocessor receives measurements of current density or voltage gradient and water conductivity at a selected location within an energized liquid body and performs the mathematical operations necessary to calculate power density. Values on a graph of water conductivity, current density, voltage density and power density are used to determine how much electrical power to apply to a specific organism in a specific volume of liquid.

  • Patent number: 4523746
Abstract: The problem of readily picking up a load using an aircraft without requiring ground personnel is solved by a coupling device (15) and a method of coupling a load using same. The coupling device includes a pivot member (17) pivotally mounted on the load having a disposition and configuration that is readily engaged by a hoist line (42) with an end or weight member (43) from above and guided into a retainer portion (22) so that as the hoist line is raised a connection is formed between the hoist line and the load. The pivot member serves as a load-bearing member during suspension. Upon deployment and relief of the weight of the load from the hoist line, the pivot member automatically returns to the starting position and the hoist line and end member are slid therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4505143
Abstract: Panel forming apparatus for producing a curved panel from a straight panel disclosed has first and second pairs of wall-indenting dies (281, 282 and 283, 284) spaced from one another to receive therebetween each inclined sidewall portion of a straight panel. A hydraulic motor (M1) is coupled by a power train to rotate said first pair of wall-indenting dies. A hydraulic motor (M2) is coupled by a second power train to rotate the second pair of wall-indenting dies. A third pair of wall-indenting dies (121, 122) is located downstream of the first-mentioned pairs of dies to receive the intermediate wall portion of the panel between each of the third pairs and engage the intermediate wall portion of the panel after it has passed through the first-mentioned pairs of dies. A third hydraulic motor (M3) is coupled by a third power train to rotate the third pair of wall-indenting dies. A tank 301 and pumps (P1, P2) deliver fluid under pressure to the motors.

  • Patent number: 4442636
Abstract: An edge sharpening device that simultaneously sharpens the edge faces on both sides of the skis has a hand-grippable support (31) capable of changing in length that carries a pair of opposed edge sharpening heads (32, 33). The heads are movable to a spread position by the changing of the length of the support and a biasing band (61) urges the side sharpening faces (44, 45, 54, 55) of sharpening blocks against the side surfaces of the ski during a reciprocating movement of the device. The heads have bottom sharpening faces (48, 58) that are manually urged against the bottom surfaces of the ski during the reciprocating movement of the device. A flexible mounting provided by heads (68, 78) and sockets (64, 74) permits the heads to turn from side to side about a vertical axis to follow the taper of a ski of varying width during the sharpening operation.

  • Patent number: 4437579
Abstract: A child-proof dispenser includes a container (11) having an inner shell (15) covered by an outer shell section (18) to form an inner compartment (12) enclosing a coiled strip of blister-packaged drugs (13) or the like. The inner and outer shells are releasably interlocked together by central hub portions (31, 25) which support the outer shell for rotation relative to the inner shell. The outer shell is rotated away from a stop (46, 47) and against the action of a compression spring (48) to aline inner and outer dispensing openings (42, 45) in the inner and outer shells, respectively. An ejecting trigger (55) carried by the outer shell is moved relative to both shells against the strip in a guide passage (46) to advance a selected number of doses of drugs via the dispensing openings. Upon release of the shells, the compression spring moves the outer shell to a position to cover the inner dispensing opening.
