Abstract: An improved method for processing aluminum dross containing fluxing salt to provide a fired inorganic or ceramic product wherein said dross is processed to remove fluxing salts therefrom, and wherein a non-metallic product is recovered. The improved process comprises providing a body of the non-metallic product in an aqueous slurry, a major portion of the body comprised of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and minor portions of said body comprised of SiO.sub.2 and MgO. The composition of the slurry is adjusted by adding one of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 and SiO.sub.2 in an amount sufficient to form the fired inorganic product on heating. The slurry is heated to a temperature sufficiently high to fire the slurry and produce the fired inorganic product.
Abstract: An improved process for treating a body of molten metal is disclosed wherein a rotating impeller is used to disperse treatment media in the body. The process comprises the steps of providing a body of molten metal to be treated, the body having an upper region and a lower region, and providing an impeller on a shaft in said body. Treatment media is added to the body and the impeller is rotated to disperse the treatment media in the body. During the process of treating the body, the impeller is moved periodically between the lower portion and the upper portion of the molten metal body to reduce vorticity therein and to improve dispersion of the treatment media.

Abstract: Disclosed is an improved ladle suitable for transferring molten metal from a molten metal body. The ladle is fabricated from a titanium alloy and coated with a refractory resistant to attack by the molten metal. The titanium alloy and refractory coating have coefficients of thermal expansion that permit the ladle to be cycled in and out of the molten metal without spalling of the refractory coating from the titanium alloy.
Abstract: There is provided an improved method for dispersing a treatment media in a body of molten metal using an impeller to disperse the media in the body of molten metal, the method producing increased shear forces in the body of molten metal and reducing vortex formation. The method comprises the steps of providing a body of molten metal and an impeller on a shaft in the body. A treatment media is added to the body and dispersed by rotating said impeller in one direction and thereafter reversing the direction of rotation of the impeller to a counter direction. The direction of rotation of the impeller is reversed periodically to substantially reduce formation of a vortex around the shaft of the impeller and to provide increased shear forces in the body for purposes of improving treatment of the molten metal by improved dispersion of the media therein.

The machine comprises a base frame having a front end and a back end; two spaced apart columns upwardly extending from the base frame at the front end thereof; means for restraining backward movement of the exerciser. An operating arm is pivotally mounted between the columns at an upper region thereof, the operating arm comprising: (i) an upwardly extending first lever pivotally mounted to the columns; and (ii) a downwardly extending second lever fixedly connected to the upwardly extending first lever, the downwardly extending second lever terminating in a grip bar for the exerciser, the operating arm pivoting to permit upward/downward and forward/backward movement of the grip bar. Means is provided for restraining lap movement of the exerciser using the machine. A restraining force is attached to the arm to resist movement of the exerciser.

Abstract: A laminate suitable for vehicular applications includes at least two sheets of aluminum alloy and an adhesive layer between the sheets bonding them together. An oxide layer on surfaces of the sheets is treated with a phosphorous acid electrolyte, so that a coordination number of four predominates for the aluminum-oxygen-phosphorous bond. Equivalent bonding strengths in the laminates are obtained in substantially less time with phosphorous acid treatment compared with phosphoric acid treatment.
