Abstract: A substrate surface is coated with a permeation barrier of inorganic material, which is vaporised from a crucible in a vacuum chamber evacuated to at least 10.sup.-3 mbar and precipitated on the substrate surface. An ionizing electron beam of low energy is thus passed through the gas phase of inorganic material with formation of a plasma, preferably in the direction running approximately parallel to the substrate surface. At least one low voltage electron beam gun with assigned electrode is incorporated in the vacuum chamber between the crucible and the substrate support. The main application is for coating plastic films for the packaging industry.

Abstract: A disposable and disinfected still frame camera for use in contamination sensitive areas includes an inner camera portion for securing still frame film, exposing frames of the film and for advancing the film. A camera housing is also provided for enclosing the inner camera portion. The invention also includes a fluid impervious casing which substantially encases the camera housing for protecting the camera and environment from contamination. The disposable camera may also include attachments for connecting the camera to optical medical devices, a measuring device for measuring the distance between the camera lens and the object being photographed, and sterilized or disinfected packaging.
Abstract: For producing a vibration insulator for use in a motor vehicle or the like, a unique method is described which comprises (a) producing an inner unit which includes an inner cylindrical member of metal and a compounded rubber block disposed about the inner cylindrical member; (b) applying an adhesive to an inner surface of an outer cylindrical member of FRP, the adhesive being of a type which is cured and hardened when heated; (c) press-fitting the inner unit in the outer cylindrical member; (d) putting an electrode plate around the outer cylindrical member near the inner unit; and (e) applying a high frequency current to the electrode plate to induce a high frequency dielectric heating by which the adhesive and the compounded rubber block are heated, the high frequency current having a frequency lower than 100 MHz.
Abstract: A hydroconversion catalyst composition includes a catalytically active matrix having a surface area of between about 50 m.sup.2 /g to about 290 m.sup.2 /g, a silicious molecular sieve support medium distributed through the matrix and having a surface area of between about 250 m.sup.2 /g to about 1200 m.sup.2 /g and a catalytically active phase supported on the support medium and including a first metal selected from group IIIA of the periodic table of elements and a second metal selected from group VIB of the periodic table of elements. The matrix preferably further includes aluminum, gallium, cobalt, molybdenum, and phosphorus.

Abstract: A composition for increasing the resistance of polyamide fibers or polyester fibers to oxidizing agents comprising an organosiloxane modified with amino groups, melamine formaldehyde resin, a catalyst for complexing the melamine formaldehyde resin and water. The composition is used by applying it to the fibers so the fibers absorb the composition, and then drying and curing the composition on the fibers. The composition is employed to treat a polyester or polyamide felt employed to convey wood pulp which is to be bleached, prior to paper making operations, treatment of the felt with the composition significantly lengthens the useful life of the felt, exposed to bleaching chemicals.

Abstract: A steering lock device comprises a key cylinder 14 rotatably provided in a sleeve 13 which is arranged within the a frame 11; a first rotor 16 arranged, being capable of rotating, being capable of moving in the axial direction with respect to the sleeve 13, and connected with a cam for the key cylinder 14; a second rotor 18 connected with a locking rod 32 and an ignition switch 28 in operation; and a connector 17 arranged between the first rotor 16 and the second rotor 18. When the key cylinder 14 is rotated relative to the sleeve 13, the key cylinder 14 is connected with the second rotor 18, and thereby the locking rod 32 is moved to the unlocked position from the locked position. When a foreign key is inserted into the key cylinder 14, the key cylinder 14 is rotated together with the sleeve 13 as one unit, thereby the locking rod 32 cannot be moved to the unlocked position.

Abstract: A drive for turning a pinion shaft provided with toothed ridges by means of a rack the latter is connected on both sides with pistons, which in each case are held by a cylinder with the formation of a working space which may be acted upon by a pressure medium and closed by a cover or piston. In this case, the rack may be mounted for relative movement with respect to a toothed piston. The rack as well as the toothed piston engage with their teeth the toothed ridges of the pinion shaft.

Abstract: A machine is disclosed for forming facets on the surfaces of a plurality of workpieces. The machine is characterized by the presence of a plurality of pin members for holding the workpieces to be faceted against an abrading surface of a lap or an abrading wheel. The pin members are positioned and held together in a contiguous relationship. The machine also includes a mechanism for setting the angular relationship of the pin members relative to the lap or abrading wheel and for causing movement of the pin members away from the lap. An automated lap cooling, moisturizing and working compound supply system is also provided in another embodiment of this invention, for allowing continuous operation of the machine.
Abstract: A method for forming a stable emulsion of a viscous hydrocarbon in an aqueous buffer solution includes the steps of: providing a viscous hydrocarbon containing an inactive natural surfactant and having a salt content by weight of less than or equal to about 15 ppm and having a water content by weight of less than or equal to about 0.1%; forming a solution of a buffer additive in an aqueous solution to provide a basic aqueous buffer solution, the buffer additive being operative to extract and activate the inactive natural surfactant from the viscous hydrocarbon; and mixing the viscous hydrocarbon with the aqueous buffer solution at a rate sufficient to provide an emulsion of the viscous hydrocarbon in the aqueous buffer solution, whereby the buffer additive extracts the inactive natural surfactant from the viscous hydrocarbon into the aqueous buffer solution and activates the inactive natural surfactant so as to stabilize the emulsion. According to the invention, the buffer additive is a water soluble amine.

Abstract: A process for the production of a pencil comprising the steps of introducing one of a lead and a core stick into a groove in a first housing portion; applying a second housing portion having a groove to the first housing portion wherein the groove of the second housing portion is fitted with one of said lead and said core stick; gluing one of said lead and said core stick to the first and second housing portions; and gluing the first and second housing portions together; wherein the step of gluing one of said lead and said core stick is achieved through using an adhesive comprising one of a flexible fusion adhesive and melt adhesive, the adhesive having outside dimensions lying within close dimensional tolerances with respect to the dimensions of the grooves of the first and second housing such that the core stick is closely fixed between the first and second housing portions.
