  • Patent number: 6546839
Abstract: The present invention relates to a flow regulation device for mitigating over travel of a piston in a fluid operated tool. The flow regulation device includes a flow channel through which flows an operating fluid to be supplied to operate the piston within the tool and a movable flow restrictor within the flow channel. The flow restrictor has an internal fluid passageway for regulating the flow rate of the operating fluid being supplied to the tool to operate the piston. The flow restrictor also has a frustoconical portion which mates or seats against a portion of the flow channel as fluid is being supplied to operate the piston. A spring is provided to insure that the frustoconical portion seats against the mating portion of the flow channel. When the piston is retracted and operating fluid is being returned to a supply, the force applied by the spring is overcome and the flow restrictor is moved so that the frustoconical portion is unseated from the mating portion.

  • Patent number: 6542151
Abstract: A similar polygon, which is larger than a basic polygon and has a similar shape to the basic polygon, is disposed to face the obverse surface of the basic polygon. A different texture from that of the basic polygon is pasted on the similar polygon. Then, a polygon image including the basic polygon and the similar polygon is displayed. When the polygon image is viewed from a certain viewpoint, the similar polygon is seen behind the basic polygon in a ring-like form, which serves as an edge of the basic polygon. As a result, a three-dimensional image using polygons can be provided with an edge.

  • Patent number: 6536457
Abstract: Fluid and fuel delivery systems reducing pressure fluctuations and engines including such systems are disclosed. Such systems use a conduit that attenuates pressure fluctuations. Preferably, the conduit attenuates pressure fluctuations by reflecting a portion of a pressure wave within the fluid flow so that reflected pressure waves within the flow interfere with incident pressure waves within the flow, thereby reducing the pressure fluctuations in one embodiment, such a conduit may be formed as a quarter wave stub, in line with the fluid flow. Advantageously, exemplary of the invention, hoot noise in an engine may be reduced by damping pressure fluctuations in the fuel delivery system to the engine.

  • Patent number: 6536201
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a combustor/turbine successive dual cooling arrangement in which the combustor has a one-piece hot combustor wall and front and rear cold combustor walls, and cooling air is forced under pressure through perforations in the cold combustor walls and impinges on the annular front and rear sections of the hot combustor wall for the backside cooling of the hot combustor wall. The exhaust combustor backside cooling air is directed to gain access to the hot end of the engine, that is, the turbine section, to cool the turbine components. The combustor/turbine successive dual cooling arrangement according to the present invention enables all the air typically used to cool the hot end of the engine downstream of the combustor, to be used as combustor backside cooling as well, to significantly reduce the amount of air needed for combustor and turbine cooling.
