  • Patent number: 4479503
Abstract: The restoration of monuments and other objects made of stone is described. The process is carried out by immersing the stone object in deionized water in order to dissolve the calcium sulfate contamination present on the deteriorated stone which is caused by the pollutants present in air, then circulating the water containing the dissolved calcium sulfate through an ion exchange resin which can selectively trap the sulfate and release calcium hydroxide into the solution, followed by exposure to carbon dioxide under controlled conditions in order to thereby reprecipitate the calcium ions on the stone object as the carbonate in the calcite crystalline form.

  • Patent number: 4475952
Abstract: A liquid composition is disclosed which is useful in the fabrication of concrete articles. The composition may be used to coat molds or forms into which freshly mixed concrete is poured, or it may be used as an additive to the concrete. Formed of a diesel fuel oil and rosin, the mixture is found to result in speeding up of the curing of the freshly poured concrete, water proofing of concrete, fireproofing concrete and acting as a rust inhibitor. Additionally, the mixture enables the reduction in thickness of cast sections without sacrificing strength. Also, the mixture enables freshly made concrete to be used for bonding to old concrete to obtain a very strong bond.

  • Patent number: 4474197
Abstract: An improved apparatus for transferring coins to a coin counting system, a coin selecting system or the like by way of a coin passage under centrifugal force caused by rotation of a rotary disc is disclosed. The improvement consists in that the rotary disc includes a first surface portion constituting an inside part thereof from which coins are displaced onto the coin passage one after another with a single line of arrangement maintained, a circular boundary wall defining the outer periphery of the first surface portion and having a height appreciably less than the thickness of the smallest coins to be transferred and a second surface portion extending outward of the circular boundary wall in the radial direction. A coin guiding member is disposed so as to allow the coins on the second surface portion to be displaced back onto the first surface portion while the rotary disc rotates.

  • Patent number: 4473003
Abstract: Conventional automatic drip coffee makers require about one minute of manual involvement to commence a brewing cycle. The automatic drip coffee maker herein disclosed makes a full decanter of coffee within 11/2-2 minutes following the one minute manual involvement. The automatic drip coffee maker of the present invention uses preheated water but only the amount required for a decanter of coffee (1/2 gallon) making it unnecessary to employ a large reservoir. The concept, in a preferred embodiment, is to commence the brewing cycle by an almost instantaneous dump of the preheated water to a transfer tank which, in turn, meters heated water to the grounds at such a rate as to insure almost immediate contact between all the coffee grounds and all the hot water. The dump time for preheated water from the preheated reservoir to the transfer tank is less than the time required to fill a receptacle with cold water.

  • Patent number: 4473073
Abstract: A device for inserting a myringotomy tube while permitting a twisting action to be imparted during the inserting step. A shaft of the device has a proximal and a distal end, and the proximal end is provided with a rotatable head which enables the deliberate rotation of the shaft. The distal end is adapted to releasably hold a myringotomy tube. A sleeve is provided and is adapted to movably hold a length of the shaft, while permitting the distal end of the shaft to be retracted into the sleeve. As the distal end is retracted into the sleeve, a pressure is exerted by the sleeve against a myringotomy tube held on the distal end, such that the tube is caused to be released from the distal end of the shaft. The invention also includes a provision for a handle fixedly attached to the sleeve and including a movable portion which can be caused to engage the rotatable head to move the head away from the sleeve, so that the distal end of the shaft is caused to be retracted into the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4471769
Abstract: A surgical drape has a main sheet for draping over a patient's torso, a pair of leg flaps for draping over the patient's legs, and a liquid impervious sheet which has an opening for providing access to the patient. The leg flaps are connected to the main sheet and they extend laterally inwardly. Their forward and distal edges are movable so they may cover the legs of either a reclining patient whose knees are straight or a reclining patient whose knees are raised and bent in a lithotomy position. The liquid impervious sheet has its forward end connected to the main sheet. It has a second opening which provides a second access to the patient and a drain opening which permits the drainage of liquid. Removable liquid impervious coverings are provided over the latter two openings. To prevent liquid from flowing over the sides of the impervious sheet, its margins are provided with adhesive areas which are used to form tucks in the sheet.

  • Patent number: RE31706
Abstract: A simple and quickly appliable bag closure device which automatically tightens the neck of the bag. According to a preferred embodiment of the invention the device comprises a label holder in the form of a generally flattened base and a cover for closure over the base. Said base and cover are provided with means permitting them to be sealed in the closed position by means of a security seal. The base is centrally formed with a cavity shaped to receive a lever which is a separate part of the label holder although connected thereto by a string fixed at one end to one of various points along the length of the lever and at the other end to a label. The lever is formed, with relation to the cavity, so that it may be pivoted about one end to apply an automatic tightening to the neck of the bag about which the lever is passed before being placed in the cavity. The closure of the cover over the base also closes the lever in the cavity.
