  • Patent number: 5092162
Abstract: A pressure testing apparatus for a fire hose utilizing a source of water under relatively low pressure and flowable at relatively high volumetric rate. The apparatus employs a manifold using a hose filling valve. The source of water communicates with the manifold and a low pressure inlet of a pump. The outlet of a pump pressurizes the manifold at a relatively high pressure. Check valves prevent back flow from the manifold to the source of water and the outlet of the pump. A regulator valve is positioned in the manifold to determine the highest pressure found in a portion of the manifold for filling and testing the fire hose.

  • Patent number: 5087467
Abstract: A method of inhibiting discoloration of produce, such as peeled raw potatoes, apples and the like, utilizing the steps of immersing the produce in an aqueous solution containing an anion such as phosphate, pyrophosphate, sulfate or chloride. The aqueous solution is maintained at a pH of less than 2 and the produce is immersed in the aqueous solution for a sufficient time to arrest the phenolase coloration. Produce is then removed from the aqueous solution and rinsed to remove the aqueous solution from the surface of the produce.

  • Patent number: 5086820
Abstract: An apparatus for dividing a wood piece such as a sawn log utilizing a support which lies adjacent a splitting head. The splitting head includes an open frame member which supports splitting knives. The wood piece is driven along the support through the splitting head in one direction to effect splitting of at least a portion of the wood piece. The unsplit portion of the wood piece is returned to the support in a reverse direction for division by the splitting head in a subsequent operation.

  • Patent number: 5082003
Abstract: Apparatus for determining the distance between points on first and second skeletal bodies. The apparatus may continually achieve such distance determination during relative movement between the skeletal bodies. The apparatus includes first and second clamps or aimers each including a tip and base. Aimers are attached to the first and second skeletal bodies and are connected to an articulated linkage. The angular motion of the articulated linkages determines and correlates the movement between first and second aimers attached to the skeletal bodies. The signal produced by the articulated linkage is translated into a measurement of distance between the tips of the first and second skeletal bodies.

  • Patent number: 5080770
Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating particles mixed with liquid utilizing a container for holding the same. The system also employs at least one separation membrane, which is permeable to the heterogeneous particles mixed with the liquid, divides the container into first and second separation chambers. A pump biases the flow of the particle liquid mixture from one side of the membrane to the other. Simultaneously, an electric field or potential is applied to the particle liquid mixture to bias flow of the same in the other direction.
