  • Patent number: 5107789
Abstract: A system for coating articles by the use of electrostatic attraction of ionized particles which are subsequently cured. The system includes a pair of carriers for jointly carrying each article through the system, from application of the particles to the article through curing of the particles on the article. Each carrier is capable of carrying the article independently of the other. After deposition of the particles on the article the article and the carriers are conveyed through a cleaning station wherein one of the carriers is moved out of carrying engagement with the article and cleaned while the article supported by the other carrier. The other carrier is then moved out of supporting engagement with the article and cleaned while the article is supported by the first carrier.

  • Patent number: 5106012
Abstract: Two pieces of metal are bonded together at a surface by placing the two pieces into contact at the surface and forging the two pieces in a die which causes substantial displacement of the metal originally at the surface in a direction parallel to and outwardly from the edges of the surface. In this way, many of the defects which are potentially present at the original surface are displaced with moving metal away from the original contact between the two pieces of metal into sacrificial ribs and the remaining defects are exposed to significant strain. A portion of the displaced metal which contains many of the defects and which forms the sacrificial ribs is removed from the resulting bonded work piece as the sacrificial ribs are removed from the work piece. The result is a bond with superior properties and with a bond surface which can be located very precisely.

  • Patent number: 5092850
Abstract: A catheter with an adjustable, external locking bolster. The catheter is for insertion into a body and includes a distal tip which is positioned inside the body, and a tubular member which is in communication with the distal tip. A portion of the tubular member exists outside the body and is provided on its outer surface with engagement elements. An external coupling has matching engagement elements for selective, adjustable securement to the tubular member. A compression element is provided which locks the external coupling to the tubular element and prevents slippage. The adjustable engagement allows a low profile, close to the skin appearance, while the compression element securely locks the external coupling to the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 5080591
Abstract: An instructional globe facilitates the guided or self-directed study of terrestrial geography. A globe-shaped body is constructed so that major geographical features are represented on detachable appendages. Cues are provided for the proper placement of the appendages on the surfaces of the globe-shaped body, the cues consisting of niches, embossed or printed shapes, or indentations, unambiguously corresponding to the appendages. The globe-shaped body may be build up from a skeletal framework to hold a number of blocks, the blocks together forming a spherical surface. Appropriate portions of geographical features, or portions of cues, are formed on the blocks. A number of means are shown for attaching the blocks to the framework and the segments to the body. A series of embodiments apply the invention to the problems of teaching geography to students with varying or progressing learning skills.

  • Patent number: 5075974
Abstract: A cutting tool for cutting a sheet of compressible fibrous material. The cutting tool includes a blade which forms part of a cutting assembly which is mounted on a supporting base for movement between an upper position in which the blade is located above the material to be cut when the supporting base rests on the material which is to cut to a lower position in which the cutting blade extends below the supporting base. The cutting assembly is biased to the upper position and moved to the lower position by downward pressure from the hand of the operator which also causes the supporting base to compress the fibrous material so that when the cutting tool is moved longitudinally along the upper surface of the fibrous material, the material is cut by the blade.

  • Patent number: 5072770
Abstract: A method of making an investment casting by forming a pattern which has the shape of the part which is to be made and forming from the pattern a mold of elastomeric (rubber) material which has a cavity which has the shape of the of the part or casting to be made. Liquid aqueous (water) material is poured into the mold cavity and the mold is cooled so that the material is frozen (ice) to form a solid temporary pattern having the shape of the part. The temporary pattern is coated or invested with ceramic material to form a solid shell about the temporary pattern. The solid temporary pattern is melted and the resulting aqueous material evacuated from the shell to form a cavity which has the shape of the part or casting. The shell cavity is filled with molten metal which is allowed to solidify to form the casting which is removed from the shell.

  • Patent number: 5070934
Abstract: Ventilation device for the simultaneous ventilating and exhausting an enclosed room having the capacity for the recovery of heat from the exhaust media current. The exhaust media current is given a longer flow path than the ventilation media current; particularly the flow path of the exhaust media current at the exit side of the heat exchanger has a flow deflection which includes an arc measure of more than 90.degree. degrees and preferably of about 150.degree.. Further, the flow paths of both the exhaust and the ventilation media current extend from their inlets to at least the heat exchanger in an ascending direction.
