  • Patent number: 5562146
Abstract: A method of forming a unitary heat sink metal body by supporting one end of each plurality of flat metal plates or fins in a row so that the plates are spaced and parallel and casting a base about the freely extending ends of the plates. More specifically, the base is formed by die casting. Apparatus for carrying out the above method is also provided which includes a fixed base and a support for supporting a plurality of flat metal plates or fins in spaced parallel relationship so that one end of each plate engages the fixed base and the opposite end of each plate extends freely from the support. The freely extending ends of the plates are positioned within the cavity of a mold such as a die cast mold. The cavity of the mold is filled with molten metal for filling the spaces between the freely extending ends of the plates and forming the base of the heat sink when the molten metal solidifies.

  • Patent number: 5501792
Abstract: An energy and water conservation laundry mechanism which includes a plurality of automatic washing machines, a rinse water storage tank, plumbing which connects the storage tank to the each of the washing machines, and electrical controls which are tied into the existing control circuitry of the washing machines for selectively directing the flow of rinse water between the storage tank and the washing machines. The plumbing includes pumps and valves which enables rinse water, as stored in the storage tank, to be delivered to each washing machine at the beginning of a wash cycle and waste water from the wash cycle to be discharged into a conventional sewer line. Rinse water from each washing machine at the end of each rinse cycle, is pumped to the storage tank for reuse for subsequent wash cycles of the machines. The invention also includes a filter for the rinse water which includes a toroidal shape filter element.

  • Patent number: 5483729
Abstract: A machine for shearing pile fibers from the surface of a textile fabric which is conveyed over the narrow edge of a cloth holder. The cutting is accomplished by a scissors-like action between a stationary cutting blade and a plurality of helical blades which are mounted on a roll which is rotated about a horizontal axis for moving the helical blades into cutting contact of the horizontal cutting edge of the stationary blade. The stationary blade is mounted on a holder which is pivotally mounted on a horizontal axis to enable the stationary blade holder to be pivoted by a drive mechanism to change the relative position of the cutting edge of the stationary blade relative to the cloth holder. The roller for the helical blades is mounted on a rotary blade holder which is supported on the stationary blade holder for movement with the stationary blade holder so that the cutting edges of both the stationary blades and the rotary blades and the helical blades move in unison relative to the cloth holder.

  • Patent number: 5467997
Abstract: A deck of informational playing cards is disclosed, each card having a front surface with a primary printed indicia of a unique member of a class of items. The front surface also has a plurality of statistical elements directly related to the one member. Each element has a textual portion and a related numerical portion. The textual portion is substantially identical to the textual portion of the corresponding element on each of the cards. The value of the numerical portion varies among the corresponding elements and corresponds to the member. In playing a game, the players decide the basis for selecting the first and subsequent initiating players, for determining which of the statistical elements in a set prevails, and for determining who has won. The cards are dealt, one at a time and front surface down, to create a hand for each player. The front surface of only one of the cards in each of the hands is exposed.
