Abstract: An electrically powered hammer comprising a hollow spindle within which spindle is reciprocatingly mounted a piston, a ram, a beatpiece having an increased external diameter mid-portion and located within the spindle between the ram and the tool or bit, a two part sleeve arrangement located within the spindle and including an increased internal diameter mid-portion for receiving the increased external diameter portion of the beatpiece and a reduced internal diameter forward and rearward portion for guiding the forward and rearward ends respectively of the beatpiece and where the sleeve arrangement includes a forward sleeve and a rearward sleeve which are both guided with tight radial tolerances and with a slight axial play within and by the spindle and the forward axial movement of the forward sleeve is limited by a reduced diameter portion of the spindle and the forward axial movement of the rearward sleeve is limited by the forward sleeve.

Abstract: A power tool includes a handle (38) which allows the user to operate the tool via a trigger (44). The handle is arranged relative to the body (36) of the tool such that the user may operate the tool in a plurality of positions relative to a workpiece. The handle (38) is positioned such that a force applied thereto along a line of action allows operation of the tool along that line of action regardless of in which of the plurality of positions the power tool is held relative to the workpiece. Furthermore, the handle (38) is configured to be accessible from more than one side thereof each accessible side corresponding to a given one of the plurality of different positions.
Abstract: A coupling mechanism for a power tool is provided on one portion of the tool and comprises a generally cylindrical projection with a side wall having a radial recess extending part-circumferentially along the side wall. A further projection is formed on the side wall which extends in both directions parallel to the axis of the cylindrical projection and in a direction radially outward from the side wall as well.
Abstract: A rotary hammer includes a spindle 18 which can be rotatably driven by an intermediate shaft 24 by way of a drive device. A tool holder 16 is arranged for rotation with the spindle 18, and for releasably holding a bit or tool for selective rotation and/or reciprocation. A pneumatic hammering arrangement facilitates repeated impacting of the bit or tool for reciprocation within the tool holder (16). A mode change mechanism includes a knob 18 for selectively operating the rotary hammer in any of three modes, identified as a rotary drive only mode, a hammer only mode and a rotary hammer mode.
Abstract: A collet assembly for a tool comprising a collet nut rotatably connectable to the tool; a collet operatively connectable to the collet nut; and a collet wrench movably connected with the tool and engageable with the collet nut for tightening and loosening the collet.

Abstract: A first component part (42) for a power tool has a mounting spigot (90) with a channel (239) therein and a second component part (10) of the power tool has a spigot receiving portion (54) with a rib (101) co-operable with the channel. The first component part includes a cylindrical projection with a chamfered edge (250) and the second component part includes a detent. In a first step in coupling the components parts, the channel in the mounting spigot is aligned with the co-operable rib on the spigot receiving portion. Subsequent steps include engaging the further rib of the spigot receiving portion with a channel on a side wall and finally, urging the chamfered edge past the detent.
