Abstract: A drill/driver chuck mechanism has a cylindrical member 2 with a central axial bore 4. A plurality of further bores 6 are slanted with respect to the central axial bore 4. Jaws 8 each associated with a bore 6 are moveable via a jaw actuator 10. A jaw locking means 32-60 is coupled to the jaw actuator 10. The jaw locking means may move between an open position and a closed position such that the jaws may be locked within their respective bore 6 regardless of the degree of protrusion of the jaws 8 into the central axial bore 4.
Abstract: A collet assembly for a tool comprising a collet nut rotatably connectable to the tool; a collet operatively connectable to the collet nut; and a collet wrench movably connected with the tool and engageable with the collet nut for tightening and loosening the collet.

Abstract: A power tool includes a motor (20) mounted within a body (14) of the tool. The tool (14) is able to accept any one of a plurality of attachment members (54) so as to form a tool dedicated for a particular job. Each one of the attachment members (54) of the plurality has a pre-determined output speed and one of a rotary and non-rotary output. By the ability to interchange the attachment members of the plurality therefore a total power tool is provided having the above features.
Abstract: A power tool (2) includes a motor (22) pivotally mounted within the housing of the tool. The tool is able to accept any one of a plurality of attachment members (32). The motor (22) is adapted to pivot in order that accurate axial alignment with any one of the attachment members presented to the motor occurs.
Abstract: A chuck 40 includes a body 42 having a plurality of angularly spaced ribs 166, 168 and 170 formed in a forward cylindrical opening 48 thereof. A locking element 236 is movable within a passage 180 of the body 42, and is formed with a defined portion 242 which is extendable from the passage 180, through an inboard peak surface 172 of the rib 166 and into the opening 48. An actuator 44 is coupled to the locking element 236 and is biased by a spring 250 to urge normally the defined portion 242 of the locking element into the opening 48. A bit 62 is formed with a shank 96 with three grooves 100, 102 and 104 extending axially to a free end 112 thereof. A pocket 114 is formed in a base of each of the grooves 100, 102 and 104. The bit 62 can be manually inserted into the opening 48 of the chuck 40 such that the grooves 100, 102 and 104 are located drivingly over at least portions of the ribs 166, 168 and 170, respectively.
