  • Patent number: 8150755
Abstract: A computer system is provided for selecting an asset allocation for an investment portfolio intended to produce a target payout starting at a target date. The computer system is programmed to receive inputs that may relate to the target payout, the target date and a nominal rate of contributions to the investment portfolio. The computer system calculates a plurality of simulated investment outcomes based on assumed investment return rates and assumed inflation rates. The assumed investment return rates and assumed inflation rates are randomly selected in multi-year clusters from historical data. The computer system selects the asset allocation based on relative performance of the assumed asset allocations in the simulated investment outcomes.

  • Patent number: 8148838
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a plurality of airborne bodies may each extend horizontally along an axis between a first point and a second point. Each body may be, for example, at least partially filled with a gas and two or more vanes may be provided airborne with each body such that the vanes, when acted upon by a wind force perpendicular to the axis, are operable to cause rotation about the axis. Moreover, one or more electrical generators may be airborne with each body to convert rotational energy produced by the rotation about the axis into electrical energy.

  • Patent number: 8145990
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a system, method, means, and/or computer program code are provided to facilitate use of a spreadsheet application to access information stored in a multi-dimensional data source. Some embodiments include receiving, at an analyzer module, a change indication from the spreadsheet application, the change indication being associated with an identifier entered by a user into a spreadsheet cell. In response to the change indication, a member associated with the identifier in a multi-dimensional data source may be dynamically determined. Information in the spreadsheet may then be replaced with a formula based at least in part on the determined member.

Abstract: Multi-node and multi-processor security management is described in this application. Data may be secured in a TPM of any one of a plurality of nodes, each node including one or more processors. The secured data may be protected using hardware hooks to prevent unauthorized access to the secured information. Security hierarchy may be put in place to protect certain memory addresses from access by requiring permission by VMM, OS, ACM or processor hardware. The presence of secured data may be communicated to each of the nodes to ensure that data is protected. Other embodiments are described.

  • Patent number: 8135716
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a programming language in an application server may include access to different database server implementations, wherein the programming language accesses content of database tables via work areas derived from the database tables. A database table, having columns to store content, each column being associated with a column type, may be mapped to a work area such that, at a database server, each column in the database table is mapped to a corresponding component of the work area, the corresponding component having a default component type based on the column type of the associated column in the database table. It may be determined that a particular column in the database table is to store large object data content, and, in response to the determination, a new mapping to a work area may be defined such that the particular column maps to a corresponding component having a component type other than the default component type.

  • Patent number: 8127396
Abstract: An automated (robotic) floor cleaner (100) is adapted to allow sterile cleaning of sensitive environments, such as hospital room. In particular, the floor-cleaner chassis (124) is redesigned to be mounted on a deck (102) containing cleaning devices that contact the floor. The cleaning devices mounted on the deck (102) include vacuum head (132), brushes (120), cleaning fluid sprays (128), and conceivably sanitizing devices such as UV germicidal light, are provided pre-sterilized. As such, the adapted floor-cleaner chassis (124) allows the deck (102) to be mounted to the bottom of the chassis (124), the floor-cleaner (100) is then used to clean a floor, after which, the deck (102) is removed from the chassis (124) and disposed. The robotic-floor cleaner (100) and sterilization system cleans floor between or even during cases. Further, the robotic floor cleaner (100) reduces the “turnover time” required between cases, as it operates simultaneously while the staff prepares the room for the next case.

  • Patent number: 8117529
Abstract: The object based navigation is an intelligent user interface that uses a source object to determine which target information is to be presented to the user. This is done by associating an object to one or more operations, so that selection of a given source object would result in a predefined operation to be activated. The role of the user may also affect the predefined operation that is activated. If multiple operations are associated with a given source object, these operations may be prioritized, so that the one with the highest priority is performed as a default operation.

  • Patent number: 8117061
Abstract: A method for transforming transactional data into a forecast and confidence interval for controlling a commerce system involves moving goods between members of a commerce system, and recording transaction data related to movement of goods between the members of the commerce system. The transaction data includes price, product, time, and promotion. The model parameters are estimated based on the transactional data using a demand model to generate a forecast of demand for the goods based on a proposed price or promotion. A confidence interval of the certainty associated with the forecast of demand for the goods is determined based on the proposed price or promotion. The forecast of demand for the goods and confidence interval is provided to the commerce system to control the movement of goods based on the forecast of demand for the goods and confidence interval. The forecast and confidence interval can be graphically displayed.
