  • Patent number: 4415290
Abstract: A binder of the ring type includes fixed and pivot rods with their free ends being bent in opposite relation. The pivot rods are attached to a pivot plate. The pivot plate is mounted on a bottom plate in such a manner that it is always biased by a spring in its opening direction. A pivot arm is provided, including an upper member and a lower member formed by bending a metal material. The pivot and bottom plate are clamped between the upper and lower members. To prevent excessive pivot movement of the pivotal arm, a stopper means is provided at the extremity of the pivot end of the pivot arm.

  • Patent number: 4413554
Abstract: A device for compacting and dewatering moist refuse comprises a tube and a piston reciprocable therein. Varying consistency of the refuse matter will require a varying resistance to the compacting action of the piston. A throttling device within the tube comprises a number of plates which are swingable about an axis arranged perpendicularly to the tube, and are actuable so as to occupy a position practically level with the wall of the tube, or to a position in which they extend into the tube, respectively. The piston is operated by a double acting hydraulic ram, and the plates are operated by a further hydraulic ram. Both rams are connected to a source of pressure fluid, and are interconnected so the power stroke end of the further ram communicates with the return flow end of the piston ram, and vice versa. Two oppositely directed non-return valves are fitted in parallel in the conduit connecting the power stroke end of the further ram with the return flow end of the piston ram.

  • Patent number: 4404458
Abstract: A method for attaching a bicycle fork fitting to a fork leg is disclosed, using a particular fork fitting means. A steel pipe is formed with a fork leg including its one closed distal end with a joint. The fitting means is provided with projections at the portions near to both ends of the side thereof to be welded. Electric currents are passed through the closed portion of the fork leg and the projections of the fitting which are brought in contact with each other under pressure. Upon reaching a temperature suitable for welding, the thus integrated arrangement is upset under greater pressure, so that the fitting is welded to the fork leg.

  • Patent number: 4394932
Abstract: A vending machine, preferably for cooled articles, comprises a number of drums subdivided into compartments and arranged as a stack within a cabinet to be individually rotatable about a horizontal shaft. A front and a rear shield covers the lower half of the stack and leave between themselves a passage. A flap, which is swingable about a horizontal shaft, reaches, in one of its positions, to the lower edge of the front shield and partly closes the passage. The machine comprises a selector mechanism, by which the position of an actuator can be adjusted to a desired drum and, when released, rotates the latter one step, and also tilts the flap, so an adjacent article can slide down a chute. The machine is provided with suitable release structure, for instance a coin-freed device, which by way of impulses to an electric motor causes a swinging movement of an arm in the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4394892
Abstract: An automated braking-gap adjuster system for mechanical drum brakes includes back plate, a pair of brake shoes having one end pivotally supported on the back plate, a cam member interposed between the other free ends of the brake shoes and adapted to be rotated by a brake arm and a wedge adjuster having its tapered cam surface slidingly abutting directly or indirectly upon the brake shoes. The wedge adjuster is disposed in the cam member such that it is rotatable with the cam member and slidable in the direction extending at right angles with the expanding direction of the brake shoes. The adjuster system also includes an adjusting rod abutting upon the wedge adjuster and threadedly connected to the cam member and an adjusting gear engaged with the adjusting rod and rotated to extend threadedly the adjusting rod, so that the wedge adjuster is urged to thereby expand the brake shoes.

  • Patent number: 4394800
Abstract: A guide clamp is disclosed which includes a clamping jaw at one end of a guide bar. An opposing shifting jaw is slidably carried on the guide bar to permit a workpiece to be embraced by the jaws. A pull rod associated with and parallel to the guide bar is connected to a lever on the clamp jaw. The shifting jaw locks onto this pull rod when the jaws embrace a workpiece and actuation of the lever then pulls the jaws together to clamp onto the workpiece and hold the guide clamp thereon. Tuideways to guide and hold tools, jigs and the like are provided on the guide bar.

  • Patent number: 4390143
Abstract: A manually operable attachment for a locking mechanism adapted for use in a safety belt retractor for vehicle comprises a pivotable member and a rod secured to one end thereof. In use, the pivotable member is manually actuated by means such as a wire pulling means or an electromagnet. An arm is also added to a sensor for the detection of a change in the velocity of a vehicle. The rod is forced down in association with the pivotal movement of the pivotable member, so that its end gives a push to the arm which, in turn, actuates an intermediate means of the retractor locking mechanism.
