  • Patent number: 5187768
Abstract: A fiber optic connector having an adjustable element providing for optical signal attenuation. The connector includes a pair of plug connector elements maintained in axially aligned relation upon engagement with a medially positioned adapter element. One of the plug connector elements incorporates the adjustable element, movement of which varies the gap existing between the aligned ends of the optical fibers without relative rotation between the end surfaces of the fibers.

  • Patent number: 5168199
Abstract: An improved system for continuously detecting and correcting the display in a cathode ray tube for errors in size and linearity. The system employs a crystal oscillator as a reference frequency to determine absolute error which is represented as "size" on the display screen, and relative error which is represented as linearity. The error is determined from the index pulse feedback, which is an output of a phase lock loop voltage controlled oscillator which is compared to the reference frequency to provide an error voltage level. This output level is then digitized and processed in terms of general control, interpolation, extrapolation, filtering, etc., testing, and stored in digital memory. The digital error data is converted back to analog levels for insertion into a horizontal auxiliary amplifier circuit for linearity correction. A main horizontal amplifier circuit receives size correction.

  • Patent number: 5165533
Abstract: A screw operated electrical contact device having at least one pair of electrical conductors disposed on and projecting evenly above a dielectric surface, an insulation gap separating said conductors from each other, a nut attached to or part of the dielectric surface, having a center axis perpendicular to the surface aligned with the gap, a screw in threaded engagement with the nut, the screw being adapted to be moved along the length of the axis as it is rotated about the axis in the nut, and a contact dimensioned to bridge the gap, mounted fixedly and insulatingly in the screw, adapted to connect the conductors electrically together by exerting simultaneous pressure on both of them as a result of advancement of the contact toward the surface caused by the screw being rotated about the axis.

  • Patent number: 5161974
Abstract: A color value classification system particularly suited for use in printing procedures based upon the cyan, magenta and yellow primary colors, including both traditional and digital color separation methods, as well as all types of other printing systems. The classification is based upon four groups of five colors each, in which half of the colors are the substan- tial complements of the remaining half. The twenty colors are derived from the blending of the basic primary colors known as process colors in the printing industry.

  • Patent number: 5157900
Abstract: An improved means and method for shipping industrial sized quantities of hazardous concentrates which simplifies compliance with current environmental protection regulations. The method includes the steps of loading a collapsible shipping container with a collapsible bag which is partially filled with a liquid or particulate concentrate of a potentially hazardous material, collapsing the bag before inserting it into the shipping container. The container itself is then collapsed, sealed and shipped to the user. Upon arrival, the user erects the container, unfolds and fills the bag with a solvent such as water to fill the container and serve as a storage facility. The diluted or dissolved product is then drawn from the container as required until the container is empty. The user then collapses the bag and the container for return to the sender. As a result, no permanently installed storage facility need be cleaned.

  • Patent number: 5146525
Abstract: A fiber optic plug connector incorporating an adjustable keying means for maintaining a specific relative adjustment between the engaged fiber optic cable and the body of the connector which is not disturbed by removal and reconnection to a corresponding plug. The construction includes an adjusting tool which provides for rotational increments of adjustment which cannot be accidentally altered once the adjusting tool is removed.

  • Patent number: 5142598
Abstract: A fiber optic connector of the so-called D-4 type incorporating means for incrementally adjusting the fiber core supporting ferrule with respect to an alignment projection which engages a corresponding recess in an adapter when the connector is engaged with the adapter. In addition to the usual radially arranged slots in a key member which are selectively engaged by a corresponding projection on a ferrule supporting element during the adjustment procedure, the device includes a slidably mounted snap ring which is pushed into locked engagement to prevent loss of final adjustment. The snap ring is moved to this position by a selectively engageable adjustment tool which also serves as a protective cap.

  • Patent number: 5107998
Abstract: An improved tamper proof ring closure construction for use with threaded bottle finishes normally used for containing carbonated beverages or other contents which are under pressure. The ring includes hingedly connected hook-like members integrally molded to the inner surface of the ring. The ring includes an inwardly directed lower flange which supports the hook-like members against movement past a predetermined point when the closure is unthreaded. As the closure is unthreaded, the usual frangible bridge is at least partially ruptured, and continued pressure of the hook-like pressure upon the inwardly directed flange results in rupture of the body of the ring, so that it may be completely removed, thereby facilitating recycling of the container.

  • Patent number: 5090614
Abstract: A collapsible shipping container with integral folding slip sheet. Foldable interior walls provide double wall thickness at two of four oppositely disposed side walls, the double wall thickness also serving to reinforce the container against compressive forces at each of four corners. A flap-type lower wall is provided with a permanently attached foldable slip sheet to facilitate fork lift engagement. In a first embodiment, a lid or cover is also formed integrally and foldably attached to an upper peripheral edge along one rectilinear segment thereof. In another embodiment, hook and pile fasteners interconnect the flaps and slip sheet forming the lower wall to maintain the container in erected condition.
