  • Patent number: 4722157
Abstract: A method and apparatus for erecting buildings is disclosed. The method involves providing frame elements of a building which may be made up of spaced columns connected together by a beam or beams which may meet at a gable. To erect the frames, each frame is disposed horizontally on the ground with bases of the columns attached by a hinge member to a footing. A spacer bar is supported with one end in a recess in the ground or attached to the frame. A tension member such as a cable is attached to the frame at the gable and is passed over the top end of the spacer post and a vehicle or other prime mover is attached to the tension member to pull the frame to erect position. Each of the hinge members may be made of a socket to attach to the base of a column and a shoe attached to a ground support footing. Each socket is hinged to the shoe by a forwardly facing slot that receives a pin on the socket.

  • Patent number: 4722160
Abstract: A combination grave marker and vase is disclosed. The marker has an enclosure with a top, bottom and four sides. The top has an opening closed by a swinging cover. The cover has a lever with a counterweight. The lever also has an arcuate slot which registers with a slotted member extending generally vertically. An axle on the counterweight engages both the slot in the lever and enclosure. The cover has a receptacle for flowers. When the marker is in use, the cover is opened which will be moved to use position and the flowers can then be placed in the flower receptacle. Since the flower receptacle is integral with the cover, it cannot be craried away and lost. The enclosure top can be flush with the surface of the ground so that it does not interfere with normal cemetery maintenance.

  • Patent number: 4715744
Abstract: This invention relates to a shore protection device and more particularly to breakwaters for protecting shorelines against wave damage and erosion. The floating breakwater is manufactured primarily from steel plate between 154" thick and 3/16" thick which may be cold rolled steel. The assembly is basically similar to a large floating barge that has some unique design characteristics that allow it to have excellent performance as a breakwall. It is designed to be simple and easy to manufacture, (there are no unusual bending or rolling operations required) and it may be floated to the site or the shoreline which needs protection. Its main feature is that it is designed to break up the tremendous power and force of wave action as the waves come rolling toward the shore, which makes the wave quiescent as it continues on toward the shoreline after it goes over and under the floating breakwater.

  • Patent number: 4714108
Abstract: A heat pump system is disclosed which includes a pipe having a circular cross sectional shape and a diametrically disposed partition dividing the circular cross sectional shape into two semi-circular flow passages. Each flow passage having an area equal to the cross sectional area of the hole through a one inch diameter pipe. The two flow channels are connected together by a return means at their second end and one of the flow passages at the first end is connected to a pump which directs the fluid into a heat exchanger and a return passage is provided for the fluid from the heat exchanger to the second flow passage in the pipe. The pipe is disclosed in a medium like liquid or soil or the like and heat is absorbed by the fluid flowing through the flow channels which is circulated by a pump and transferred to a second medium by heat exchanger.

  • Patent number: 4702359
Abstract: A torque overload release clutch is disclosed made up of a drive member and a driven member adapted to be connected between a power source and a load to transmit a torsional force and to release at a predetermined torque. The clutch release mechanism is made up of a plurality of spaced thermoplastic modules supported in the driven member and a plurality of spaced recesses in the drive member. The modules are each made up of a sleeve and a pin. The sleeve is supported on the driven member and it receives the pin. The pin has a first follower and a second follower member on it. The first follower engages the side of the recesses which acts as a cam and urges the pin toward the sleeve in proportion to the magnitude of the torsional force. The second follower engages a cam surface on the sleeve resisting the force that urges the pin toward the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4702825
Abstract: A high gradient magnet is disclosed having a coil of superconducting material immersed in liquid helium in a toroidal shaped liquid helium vessel, supported in axial spaced concentric relation to a toroidal shaped liquid nitrogen vessel which forms one end of a toroidal heat shield made of high heat conductive material in which the liquid helium chamber is supported by a first coil support ring and a second coil support ring. The heat shield and liquid helium chamber are in turn supported in a toroidal shaped vacuum chamber which is in turn supported in a heavy iron cylindrical enclosure closed at the ends and having an opening through the center of its ends. A slurry containing iron particles may pass through the opening in the center whereby the iron particles from the slurry are retained by a matrix. The first coil support ring has two ends supported on the vacuum vessel and an intermediate part.

  • Patent number: 4696357
Abstract: A container filler and weighing system is disclosed. The weighing system is made up of a scale with a support for a container supported on the scale. A vibrator connected to the support so that the material fed into the container from a feeder is packed and settled in the container. An electronic readout is connected to the scale and a digital readout connected to the electronic circuit whereby the readings can be recorded and an annunciator is connected to the electronic circuit to signal when the container is full. The vibrator connected to the container support delivers a vertical component of force that has an especially good and efficient packing reaction on the material in the container.

  • Patent number: 4653169
Abstract: Applicant has provided a method for making a vibration damper for damping harmonic vibrations in brake resurfacing operations made up of an elastic tube with slugs of heavy ductile material in it. The slugs are approximately the same diameter as the inside diameter of the tubing and are held in place in the tubing by frictional force or by cement. One slug is used to join the adjacent ends of the tubing. The loop formed by the tubing is placed on a brake drum or disc brake rotor during resurfacing operations. The slugs are coated with liquid cement which lubricates them to reduce friction in getting them into place. The end slug functions to hold the tube ends together and also to function as one of the weights.
