  • Patent number: 8150091
Abstract: A flat-panel speaker is attached to an exterior surface of a printed circuit board (PCB) housed within a consumer electronic device. Rather than place the flat-panel speaker within a sealed speaker box and then attach the speaker box to the PCB, as is conventional, the present invention attaches the flat-panel speaker to the exterior surface of the PCB without the speaker box. Removing the speaker box allows designers to reduce the dimensions of the device, and to minimize the complexity of the device.

  • Patent number: 8150390
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of routing a call made to a fixed telephone number of a UMA-subscriber in a telecommunication network. A service control entity stores a so-called ‘near list’ comprising a cell identifier of each cell overlapping a WLAN coverage area of a WLAN AP associated with the UMA-subscriber. The service control entity also receives location information of the UMA-subscriber from a switching node (2) or from a location server (16). If the cell identifier of the serving cell is in the near list, the service control entity prompt the caller to select out of a list of options. If the cell identifier of the serving cell is not in the near list, the caller will be prompted but with a different message and with different options to select. The caller is for example offered the opportunity to wait for the called party to arrive at home, and be dialed back.

  • Patent number: 8150447
Abstract: A method and arrangement is provided for adjusting the transmission power of radio signals sent over a radio link from a second node to be received by a first node reducing the transmission power consumption and/or optimizing the radio system capacity. The first node maintains a quality target of the link by generating a SIR target value by means of running an outer loop power control, which SIR target value is used for generating a power adjustment command to be sent to the second node for adjusting the transmission power such that a power level adequate for providing the quality target of the link is achieved. The method comprises the step of detecting an abrupt change in the conditions of the radio signals received from the second node, generating a temporary SIR target value, and replacing the SIR target value generated by the outer loop power control with the temporary SIR target value when generating the power adjustment command to be sent to the second node for adjusting the transmission power.

  • Patent number: 8150338
Abstract: A method and apparatus taught herein reduce the peak-to-average ratio (PAR) of a complex-valued signal based on detecting peaks in the signal that are above a peak threshold, characterizing the detected peaks in Cartesian coordinates, generating cancellation pulses in Cartesian coordinates based on the detected peak characterizations. PAR reduction processing continues with canceling the detected peaks by combining the cancellation pulses with a correspondingly delayed version of the signal. Advantageously, peak detection may be performed in polar form using a computationally efficient peak detection algorithm that avoids calculation of the I and Q peak waveforms unless a signal peak beyond a defined threshold is present. In one or more embodiments, the generation and use of asymmetric and/or shaped cancellation pulses offers further performance advantages.

  • Patent number: 8134940
Abstract: Method and apparatus in a communication unit (400) employing a wireless TDD or half duplex FDD transmission arrangement when communicating with a data sending party, for scheduling feedback reports for data blocks in received RX sub-frames, in TX sub-frames available for transmission. An obtaining unit (402) in the communication unit receives allocation parameters (P) for the connection where the number of required feedback reports is greater than the number of allowed feedback reports. A scheduling unit (404) in the communication unit then schedules feedback reports (FR) in available TX sub-frames according to a predetermined spreading rule also known by the data sending party, dictating that the feedback reports are spread out or distributed evenly over the available TX sub-frames. In this way, the number of feedback reports in a TX sub-frame can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8130719
Abstract: An access node anchoring a connection to, e.g., a PDSN in a core network establishes a session with a mobile station and assigns the mobile station an identifier such as a UATI. The anchor node sends the UATI to the PDSN, such as in a GRE key where the data link is a GRE tunnel. If the anchor node fails and data addressed to the mobile station comes to the PDSN, it may initiate a page for the mobile using the UATI. The anchor node may additionally send the PDSN the session seed and optionally the mobile station's network location. A registration zone may be defined to include access nodes within a predetermined distance of the anchor node, and the mobile station forced to re-register when moving outside of the registration zone. In this case, the PDSN may initiate a page for the mobile station only within the registration zone.

  • Patent number: 8130849
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for estimating inter-cell interference levels for resource elements of a received Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signal. In an exemplary method in a wireless receiver, a reference symbol interference levels is measured for each of a plurality of reference symbols in a received OFDM signal, and interference scaling factors are mapped to each of a plurality of resource elements of the received OFDM signal. Each interference scaling factor reflects the probability that the corresponding resource element or group of resource elements is subject to interference from an interfering OFDM signal. Interference levels for each of the resource elements are then estimated as a function of the measured reference symbol interference levels and the interference scaling factors.

  • Patent number: 8131224
Abstract: Phase and gain of a transmit signal are measured at a transmitter by determining a first time delay having a first resolution at a measurement receiver between a reference signal from which the transmit signal is generated and a measured signal derived from the transmit signal by comparing amplitudes of the reference signal and the measured signal. A second time delay having a second resolution finer than the first resolution is determined at the measurement receiver between the reference signal and the measured signal based on the first time delay. The reference signal and the measured signal are time aligned at the measurement receiver based on the second time delay and the phase and gain of the transmit signal are estimated after the reference signal and the measured signal are time aligned.

  • Patent number: 8125912
Abstract: In ATM networks, digital data in ATM cells are sent to a destination node over more than one transmission link in round robin fashion. This is called inverse multiplexing. At connection start-up, the source node informs the destination node of the specific round robin fashion of the transmission links so that the ATM cells are reassembled in a proper sequential order. Inverse multiplexing control cells are used to communicate between the source node and destination node for connectivity testing of transmission links. Cell stuffing is also provided in one embodiment to accommodate non-synchronized links among transmission links. In a particular embodiment, two consecutive control cells indicate a stuffing cell. A start-up procedure is described when not all the transmission links are usable.
