  • Patent number: 8127131
Abstract: A mobile UE includes a CPU, a secure DMA module, a secure cryptographic module, secure memory, and non-secure memory. The secure cryptographic module and secure memory allow access only by secure processes, including the secure DMA module. The CPU manages cryptographic keys and initializes DMA transfers in secure mode. The CPU executes the DMA transfers in non-secure mode. A first DMA transfer moves data encrypted in a first security domain to the secure cryptographic module, and moves clear text data to the secure memory. A second DMA transfer moves the clear text data to the secure cryptographic module, and data encrypted in a second security domain out of the secure cryptographic module. The data encrypted in the second security domain are transmitted to an external device. The secure memory protects the clear text data from being copied; only encrypted data is accessible by non-secure processes.

  • Patent number: 8107753
Abstract: A pixel block (300) is compressed by sub-sampling at least a portion of the pixels (310) into subblocks (320, 330). Predictions are determined for the property values of these subblocks (320, 330) by calculating a variance measure based on property values of neighboring pixels (310)/subblocks (320, 330) in two prediction directions in the block (300) relative to a current subblock (320, 330). If the variance is below a threshold, the prediction is calculated based on neighboring property values in both directions. If the measure exceeds the threshold, the neighboring property values in only one of the two predictions directions are used for calculating the prediction. A guiding bit (450) descriptive of the selected direction is also provided. A prediction error is calculated based on the property value and the calculated prediction. The compressed block (400) comprises an encoded representation (460) of the prediction error and any guiding bit (470).

  • Patent number: 8107560
Abstract: A method and apparatus blindly detects a received signal's modulation type characterizing an impairment component of the received signal for each postulated modulation type by determining spatial correlations between In-phase and Quadrature components of the received signal. The blind detection circuit then detects the modulation type based on the characterized impairment component. A metric generator generates a postulation metric for each postulated modulation type based on the characterized impairment component. After evaluating the postulation metrics, an evaluation circuit identifies the postulated modulation type having the best postulation metric as the modulation type of the received signal. According to an exemplary embodiment, the blind detection circuit determines a whitened noise estimate for each postulated modulation type and generates the postulation metrics based on the whitened noise estimate to reduce interference effects in the postulation metrics.

  • Patent number: 8103219
Abstract: The automatic frequency correction value applied by a receiver is altered to minimize long-term drift of a path delay profile. In one embodiment, the phase or timing error resulting from constant frequency corrections is accumulated, and an estimated frequency correction value is selectively quantized into an actual frequency correction value in response to the accumulated phase/timing error. The quantized value above or below the estimate is selected to minimize the accumulated phase/timing error that gives rise to path delay profile drift. In another embodiment, a timing circuit measures the instantaneous path delay profile drift incurred with each frequency correction, and integrates the instantaneous drift measurements over time to yield a path delay profile drift. The drift (or its rate of change) is then used to adjust a frequency correction value so as to minimize the drift.

  • Patent number: 8102950
Abstract: Where two or more multi-valued digital data symbols are modulated so that they overlap after passing through a channel, forming a combined signal, a receiver receives the combined signal and forms detection statistics to attempt to recover the symbols. Where forming detection statistics does not completely separate the symbols, each statistic comprises a different mix of the symbols. A receiver determines the symbols which, when mixed in the same way, reproduce or explain the statistics most closely. For example, the receiver hypothesizes all but one of the symbols and subtracts the effect of the hypothesized symbols from the mixed statistics. The remainders are combined and quantized to the nearest value of the remaining symbol. For each hypothesis, the remaining symbol is determined. A metric is then computed for each symbol hypothesis including the so-determined remaining symbol, and the symbol set producing the best metric is chosen as the decoded symbols.

  • Patent number: 8102810
Abstract: The wireless communication device and corresponding method described herein selectively switches between a single-frequency mode, such as appropriate for an EDGE network, and a multiple-frequency mode, such as appropriate for a multi-carrier EDGE network. Accordingly, a transmitting wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel mapping unit, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel mapping unit, used during the multiple-frequency mode. The multi-channel mapping unit modulates input data to output a modulated data stream for each of multiple adjacent frequency channels that, when combined, produce a multiple-frequency signal with reduced peak-to-average ratio. A receiving wireless communication device selectively switches between a single-channel demodulator, used during the single-frequency mode, and a multi-channel demodulator, used during the multiple-frequency mode.
