Abstract: According to the teachings presented herein, a wireless communication apparatus compensates for timing misalignment in its received signal processing. In at least one embodiment, the apparatus estimates a set of path delays for a received signal and sets processing delays on the estimated path delays. The apparatus jointly hypothesizes combinations of fractional timing offsets for two or more paths, and computes a decision metric for each joint hypothesis that indicates the accuracy of the joint hypothesis. As non-limiting examples, the decision metric may be a signal quality metric, or a distance metric (such as between a measured net channel response and an effective net channel response reconstructed as a function of the combination of fractional timing offsets included in the joint hypothesis). The apparatus evaluates the decision metrics to identify a best estimate of timing misalignment, and correspondingly compensates coherent processing of the received signal.

Abstract: A wireless communication receiver improves signal impairment correlation estimation in MIMO/MISO systems by considering different transmit power allocations and different transmit antenna power distributions in its impairment correlation calculations. The receiver may be implemented in according to a variety of architectures, including, but not limited to, Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) Generalized RAKE (G-RAKE), Joint Detection (JD) G-RAKE, and Minimum Mean Squared Error (MMSE) G-RAKE. Regardless of the particular receiver architecture adopted, the improved impairment correlations may be used to calculate improved (RAKE) signal combining weights and/or improve channel quality estimates for reporting by receivers operating in Wideband CDMA (W-CDMA) systems transmitting HSDPA channels via MIMO or MISO transmitters.

Abstract: A mobile terminal is enabled to conduct an EMV transaction. A wireless access node in the EMV card-reader terminal is provided for connecting a mobile terminal to the card-reader terminal. An EMV-proxy module executing in the card-reader terminal facilitates communication between the mobile terminal and the card-reader terminal. The EMV-proxy module lets the mobile terminal function in essentially the same way as a regular EMV chip card with respect to the card-reader terminal. The card-reader terminal may then conduct EMV transactions on behalf of the mobile terminal without requiring new software and/or hardware at the EMV issuer. EMV data is stored in the mobile terminal in the form of secure dynamic data objects. This Abstract is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims. 37 CFR 1.72(b).
Abstract: An integrated circuit is fabricated by providing a preprocessed wafer including a first electrode, depositing a dielectric material over the preprocessed wafer, etching an opening in the dielectric material to expose a portion of the first electrode and depositing a first resistivity changing material over exposed portions of the etched dielectric material and the first electrode. The first resistivity changing material is planarized to expose the etched dielectric material. A second resistivity changing material is deposited over the etched dielectric material and the first resistivity changing material, and an electrode material is deposited over the second resistivity changing material.
Abstract: Exemplary combining weight generation is based on estimating received signal impairment correlations using a weighted summation of interference impairment terms, such as an interference correlation matrix associated with a transmitting base station, and a noise impairment term, such as a noise correlation matrix, the impairment terms scaled by fitting parameters. The estimate is updated based on adapting the fitting parameters responsive to measured signal impairment correlations. The interference matrices are calculated from channel estimates and delay information, and knowledge of the receive filter pulse shape. Instantaneous values of the fitting parameters are determined by fitting the impairment correlation terms to impairment correlations measured at successive time instants and the fitting parameters are adapted at each time instant by updating the fitting parameters based on the instantaneous values.

Abstract: A wireless receiver utilizes a single analog oscillator to down-convert multi-carrier signals in one or more receiver front-end paths. The received signals are digitized, and the different carrier signals received at each antenna are separated in digital domain by mixing the digitized signal from each antenna with a carrier/antenna separation digital oscillator to down-convert a desired carrier signal and low-pass filtering to remove unwanted carriers. A coarse frequency correction adjusts the analog oscillator, and fine frequency corrections adjust digital oscillators mixing with the separated signals. In one embodiment, the fine frequency correction is applied to the carrier/antenna separation digital oscillators in the separation function. In another embodiment, the fine frequency correction is applied to frequency adjustment digital oscillators mixing with the separated signals. The frequency corrections may be based on reference symbols in the received signals.

Abstract: A mobile receiver having a multi-mode interference suppression function and a way to estimate its speed utilizes a parametric approach to interference suppression at high speeds, and a nonparametric approach at low speeds. In particular, if the mobile receiver is currently operating in a nonparametric mode and its speed exceeds a first predetermined threshold, the mobile receiver switches to a parametric mode. Conversely, if the mobile receiver is currently in parametric mode and its speed is less than a second predetermined threshold, the mobile receiver switches to nonparametric mode. In one embodiment, the speed may be estimated by a Doppler frequency in the received signal, and the thresholds are Doppler frequencies. In one embodiment, the first and second thresholds are different, creating a hysteresis in the mode switching.

Abstract: Methods and circuits for synthesizing two or more signals phase-locked to a common reference frequency signal are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises generating first and second output signals phase-locked to a reference clock signal, using first and second phase-locked loop circuits. In response to a detected frequency error in the first output signal, the first output signal is corrected by adjusting a frequency-division ratio in the first phase-locked loop circuit. The second output signal is corrected, separately from the correction to the first output signal, by adjusting a frequency-division ratio in the second phase-locked loop circuit, using an adjustment parameter calculated from the detected frequency error. In another exemplary method, first and second output signals are generated as described above, using first and second phase-locked loop circuits.

Abstract: According to one or more method and apparatus embodiments taught herein, network base stations reduce temporal variations in the interference perceived by mobile stations operating within the network by slowing down the rate at which they change or otherwise update the linear precoding settings applied to their transmitted Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) signals in comparison to the rate at which the base stations perform link adaptation. That is, the precoding-related component of measured interference (e.g., other-cell interference) at the mobile stations is made quasi-stationary with respect to channel quality reporting and link adaptation intervals by fixing the preceding settings used by each base station over time intervals substantially longer than the channel reporting/link adaptation intervals.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for the processing of frame buffer data, such as color buffer data, in graphics processing applications. Although more generally applicable, these methods and apparatus are particularly useful in real-time, polygon-based, 3D rendering applications. An exemplary method for processing graphics data according to one or more embodiments of the invention begins with the retrieval, from a buffer, of pixel values corresponding to a tile of two or more pixels, and with the updating of one or more of those updated pixel values. The updated pixel values are selectively compressed using a lossy compression operation or a lossless compression operation, based on an accumulated error metric value for the tile. If lossy compression is used, then the accumulated error metric value for the tile is updated; in either event, the compressed pixel values are stored in the frame buffer for further processing.
