Abstract: A method for treating water in a ballasted flocculation system comprises directing water into a ballasted flocculation zone and adding ballast and a flocculation reagent to the water to form a water-floc mixture. The water-floc mixture is directed into a settling zone to form treated water and sludge containing ballast. The ballast is then directed to a recirculation line where the ballast is recirculated to the ballasted flocculation zone. The method further includes determining the ballast concentration and comparing the ballast concentration with a predetermined threshold value. The rate at which ballast is recirculated to the ballasted flocculation zone is adjusted based on the determined ballast concentration and the predetermined threshold value.

Abstract: A mobile station includes an adjustable member for increasing a separation distance between an audio signal output device and an electronic circuit to reduce EMI proximate the audio signal output device caused by the electronic circuit. In one embodiment, the adjustable member comprises a slide member that extends at least a portion of the audio signal output device away from the electronic circuit to increase the separation distance. In another embodiment, the adjustable member comprises a pivot member that rotates the electronic circuit (or audio signal output device) away from the audio signal output device (or electronic circuit) to increase the separation distance. In any event, increasing the separation distance between the audio signal output device and the electronic circuit decreases the EMI proximate the audio signal output device, and therefore EMI effects on external circuits proximate the mobile station, such as a hearing aid.

Abstract: For high rate data transmission, channel estimates may be computed using multiple control channels. An exemplary method comprises determining a transmission parameter for a data channel, generating first and second channel estimates derived respectively from first and second control channels, and selectively combining the first and second channel estimates to generate a combined channel estimate. In some embodiments, the second channel estimate may be used to refine the first channel estimate before the selection of the final channel estimate.
Abstract: An electronic device has a multimedia framework including an integration layer and a higher-level application layer. The integration layer includes predefined media processing components having an input/output interface configurable based on the type and format of media content delivered to the device during a streaming media session and that provide predefined media processing functions to the application layer for enabling playback of the media content. A streaming media management component included in the integration layer establishes and manages the streaming media session and configures one or more content pipes used during the streaming media session to access packets received by one or more sockets. The component also maps the content pipes to the sockets and processes packets retrieved from the one or more content pipes such that the media content is provided to corresponding ones of the predefined media processing components in accordance with their configured input/output interfaces.
Abstract: Circuits and methods are disclosed for compensating for received signal distortion caused by non-linearities in wideband receivers. An exemplary receiver includes a distortion waveform generator configured to approximate non-linear response characteristics of a downconverter circuit used to downconvert the received radio frequency signal. The resulting estimated distortion waveform is filtered, using filter(s) substantially similar to those used for filtering an intermediate frequency signal that includes the desired signal and non-linear distortion products caused by strong interfering signals. The filtered estimated distortion waveform and intermediate frequency signal are sampled, to obtain a sampled distortion signal and a sampled signal of interest. The sampled distortion signal and the sampled signal of interest are divided into a plurality of frequency channels.
Abstract: A flashlight assembly provides a convenient ability to turn the flashlight on and off, particularly for flashlights with a pressure activated power switch disposed on a rear portion of the flashlight. In one version, the flashlight assembly includes a flashlight holder that has a housing for receiving the flashlight's rear portion therein. The flashlight holder also has a handle connected to the housing that includes a support arm and an actuator arm. The support arm extends outwardly from the housing, while the actuator arm extends from the support arm back toward the housing, so as to overlie the power switch in spaced relation thereto. Disposed in this manner, the actuator arm is movable between depressed and released configurations. This movement allows the power switch to be selectively depressed and released, so as to turn the flashlight on and off. Other versions and methods are also disclosed.
Abstract: A mobile communication network includes an antenna site shared by two or more telecommunications service providers. The antenna site includes a shared resource, such as an antenna, telecommunications equipment, or bandwidth, used by multiple service providers and connects to multiple signal processing centers, each of which belongs to one of the service providers. The signal processing centers may provide modulating signals to the antenna site to use in modulating a carrier. The antenna site may also direct received signals from mobile terminals to the signal processing center for the appropriate service provider. A billing module at the antenna site maintains an accounting of resources used by each service provider.
Abstract: A memory arrangement comprises a first memory module and a second memory module. An item of information to be written to the memory arrangement is written with a first address both to the first memory module and to the second memory module. When reading, the item of information is read either from the first memory module by means of the first address or from the second memory module by means of a second address differing from the first address. Subsequently a check is made as to whether the item of information is defective. If this is the case, the item of information is read from the respective other memory module.

The method further includes separating at least a portion of the ballast from the sludge and directing the separated ballast from the separator to the mixing zone. Finally, the sludge is directed from the separator to a sludge treatment reactor where at least some of the remaining ballast settles from the sludge and substantially ballast-free sludge is discharged from the sludge treatment reactor.
Abstract: Methods and systems taught herein allow mobile device manufacturers to preconfigure mobile devices for subscription with any network operator having access to a centralized device directory server. The directory server stores device records, each including a preliminary subscription identity. Manufacturers individually provision new mobile devices with these preliminary subscription identities, and network operators preliminarily register subscribers by submitting requests to the directory server that cause it to link individual device records with the appropriate credential server addresses. Mobile devices gain temporary network access by submitting their preliminary subscription identities, which get passed along to the directory server for verification. In turn, the directory server generates authentication vectors giving the mobile devices temporary network access, and returns the appropriate credential server addresses.
