  • Patent number: 8238276
Abstract: A method of transmitting a downlink, coding scheme CS-1 RLC/MAC control message from a BSS to an EGPRS MS (61), and receiving and detecting the CS-1 RLC/MAC control message in the MS. The BSS places in an MCS-1 radio block, a CS-1 RLC/MAC control block identical to a coding scheme CS-1 RLC/MAC control message excluding the MAC header octet. The BSS also places a coding scheme CS-4 stealing bit code word in the radio block using legacy stealing bit values and positions. The CPS field (26) of the block header (25) indicates that the radio block contains a CS-1 RLC/MAC control message. The MS receives the radio block and detects the coding scheme CS-4 stealing bit code word. In response, the MS interprets the received radio block header to identify the CPS field. The MS determines from the CPS field that a CS-1 RLC/MAC control block has been received.

  • Patent number: 8238472
Abstract: One or more carrier signals in a multiple-carrier UE transmitter are frequency-adjusted to account for an estimated error in the separation frequency between the transmitted carrier signals. The adjustment is applied when generating the UL signals for the respective carrier frequencies in digital baseband of the UE. In one embodiment, one or more of the modulators that apply the carrier separation frequency additionally apply a frequency correction. In another embodiment, first mixers apply the carrier separation frequency to each different carrier signal. One or more carrier signal paths include a second mixer applying a frequency correction to the carrier signal. The RF modulation frequency may also be adjusted to partially compensate for the estimated carrier separation frequency error.

  • Patent number: 8233427
Abstract: A base station receives channel quality reports from a plurality of mobile terminals. The channel quality reports from the mobile terminals indicate the signal power of the signals received by the mobile terminals from the base station and one or more interference parameters relating to the power of impairment components contributing to the total impairment of the received signal during a first time interval. The base station computes an estimated channel quality indication for a second time interval subsequent to the first time interval based on expected variations in the powers of the impairment components. The estimated channel quality indication for the second time interval is used by the base station to schedule the mobile terminals and to determine the transmission format.

  • Patent number: 8233877
Abstract: A mobile terminal capable of operating in a Discontinuous Transmission mode during an active voice call with a remote party is also capable of operating in a Discontinuous Reception mode during the same active voice call. Particularly, a receiving mobile terminal monitors when the remote party stops transmitting speech during the active voice call. If there are no speech signals to receive, the mobile terminal switches it's receiver “off” for selected receive time slots to save battery power.

  • Patent number: 8229451
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method in a base station (110a, 110b, 210a, 210b, 210c, 410a, 410b) for managing inter-cell interference in a communications network, comprising a scheduler in each cell which controls a set of shared radio resources, said radio resources being at least near orthogonal to each other. • Patent number: 8225110
Abstract: An electronic device requires valid control keys to change any usage restriction setting. The device is provided control keys, a secret key, and a signed software object including a batch ID and a hash of the secret key. For each control key, the device generates a cryptographic footprint bound to the device and the secret key. A message authentication code (MAC) of each usage restriction setting is generated, the MAC bound to the device and a control key. To change a usage restriction, the device receives a control key, validates it against the stored footprint, changes the usage restriction settings, and generates a new usage restriction setting MAC. The control key footprints are bound to the secret key, but the device retains only a hash of the secret key.

  • Patent number: 8218606
Abstract: According to the teachings disclosed in this document, a receiver estimates impairment correlations for a received signal using received pilot values. This direct estimation of impairment correlations based on direct pilot observations, provides for a rich capture of all impairment sources bearing on the received signal. Advantageously, however, estimation noise is reduced by generating a structured covariance matrix from the measured covariance matrix, and carrying out structured filtering within the structured covariance matrix. Structured filtering involves averaging matrix elements that correspond to the same processing delay difference as used for measured impairment correlation estimation. In one or more embodiments, averaged net channel estimates are used to obtain a rank one matrix, which is used to convert a measured covariance matrix to a structured covariance matrix, for carrying out structured filtering.

  • Patent number: 8210537
Abstract: A multi-grid tic-tac-toe game herein requires players to strategically plan moves in advance. An associated game apparatus includes a plurality of individual tic-tac-toe grids. Each grid includes playing areas that receive playing pieces. At least one of the grids shares at least one common playing area with another one of the grids. To play, different players use different sets of playing pieces. The players take turns placing their pieces in different playing areas, attempting to form tic-tac-toes. A player forms a tic-tac-toe if he or she places a predetermined number of pieces in a corresponding number of adjacent playing areas that are aligned, irrespective of whether those playing areas belong to different grids. Points are awarded for each tic-tac-toe, and are accumulated over the course of the game. The game apparatus may include a mechanism for tracking each player's points. The winner is the player with the most points accumulated.
