  • Patent number: 6637472
Abstract: A coolant transfer machine for an automotive engine includes first and second fluid transfer systems. The first system, operated when the engine is not running, sequentially first removes at least a substantial portion of used coolant from the engine. The first system then collects in a used fluid container the used coolant as the used coolant is being removed and then replaces the removed used coolant with new coolant from a new fluid container. The second system, operated when the engine is running, simultaneously displaces at least a substantial portion of used coolant in the engine with new coolant from the new fluid container and collects the displaced used coolant in the used fluid container. A manually operable switch has a first position that enables operation of the first fluid transfer system and a second position that enables operation of the second fluid transfer system.

  • Patent number: 6575218
Abstract: A method and apparatus automatically fabricates a three dimensional object from individual layers of fabrication material having a predetermined configuration. Successive layers are stacked in a predetermined sequence and affixed together to form the object. The fabrication material is carried on a substrate to a stacker. At the stacker the layers are stacked together, with each layer being successively affixed to the stack of previously affixed layers, and with the substrate removed from each layer after it is affixed.

  • Patent number: 6523837
Abstract: A truck assembly for a skateboard includes an axle housing, a base, and a kingpin connecting the axle housing and base. The kingpin holds the axle housing and a base surface of the base a predetermined distance apart. The truck further includes a turning mechanism between the axle housing and base, around the kingpin. The turning mechanism includes opposed cam surfaces that are angled along the axis of the kingpin and an elastomeric bushing so that rotating the axle housing about the kingpin pushes the cam surfaces apart, against the compression pressure of the elastomeric bushing. The elastomeric bushing may be located within a coiled spring. The truck assembly additionally includes an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the pressure against the bushing. The adjustment mechanism includes an adjustment surface on the base of the truck assembly with two or more adjustment points, each a different distance from the base surface along the direction of the kingpin.

  • Patent number: 6481364
Abstract: An anchoring device, adapted to be driven into the ground, is used to tether a floating vessel along a shore area, an animal or child, or an inanimate object. It includes an elongated hammer element and an elongated stake element in axial alignment and preferably assembled in a manner to enable relative axial and rotational movement between the hammer element and the stake element. Consequently, without disconnecting the assembled hammer and stake elements, the user axially raises and lowers the hammer element to strike with force the stake element to drive the stake element into the ground.

  • Patent number: 6261256
Abstract: A medical device includes a valve comprising a pair of plates holding in tension a membrane folded over to form a chamber with an elongated, slit-like opening along adjoining edges. An inlet tube in communication with the chamber extends outwardly. The valve is installed in a pocket of a flexible distribution plate having ridges emanating from the pocket in a radial pattern. The device is implanted in the globe of the eye of a patient between the rectus muscles.

  • Patent number: 6250173
Abstract: A motorcycle cruise 60 control includes a throttle 12 attached to a handlebar 15 of a motorcycle 14 that controls the motorcycle's speed and an indexer 100 attached to the throttle. The throttle 12 is turned manually using normal torque to increase the speed of the motorcycle, and the indexer 100 has a cruise position and a neutral position. In the cruise position, the indexer 100 holds the throttle 12 in a selected position yet enables the throttle to be turned manually in a stepwise manner. A manual actuator 82 attached to the indexer 100 is used to switch manually the indexer between the cruise position and the neutral position. The throttle 12 with the indexer 100 in the neutral position is turned using essentially the normal torque, and with the indexer in the cruise position is turned using substantially greater than the normal torque.

  • Patent number: 6250329
Abstract: A pressure relief valve opens at a predetermined pressure of fluid flowing into the valve. It includes a body member having a passageway with an inlet and an outlet and a barrier member between the inlet and outlet that prevents fluid from flowing between the inlet and outlet. There is a port along the passageway between the inlet and the outlet, and a moveable sealing element having a closed position where said sealing element is seated in the port and an open position where the sealing element is withdrawn from the port. The port is in fluid communication with the outlet when the sealing element is moved to the open position. A disc spring engages the sealing element. This disc spring has a first position holding the sealing element in the port when the pressure of the fluid is below the predetermined pressure and a second position withdrawing the sealing element from the port when the pressure of the fluid exceeds the predetermined pressure.

  • Patent number: 6142155
Abstract: A file includes a support member having an abrasive surface treated with a sanitizing agent. The surface or the interstices between particles of abrasive hold the sanitizing agent which is released with use of the file. The sanitizing agent is either in a liquid carrier or contained within microcapsules. The microcapsules are frangible and break upon use of the file to release the sanitizing agent. The file surface may comprise granular abrasive particulates having a size ranging from 40 to 1200 grit which provide the interstices between at least some of the particulates. An aqueous coating having dispersed therein an adhesive and the microcapsules is applied to the granular particulates. The coating is dried to deposit in the interstices the microcapsules. The adhesive binds the microcapsules to the granular particulates. When a mixture of sanitizing agent and liquid carrier is used, the abrasive surface is coated with the mixture and then the carrier is removed to coat the surface with the sanitizing agent.

  • Patent number: 6132400
Abstract: A dual-chamber syringe has a plunger within an inner delivery chamber in fluid communication with an ejection port. The deliver chamber is formed within a tubular element axially slidable within a tubular guide. The tubular guide and the syringe outer barrel form an outer reservoir chamber. The outer reservoir chamber is sealed from the delivery chamber while the tubular element is in a first position within the guide. Upon withdrawal of the plunger, frictional contact imparted by the plunger seal causes the tubular element to slide away from sealing engagement with the barrel into a second position within the guide. In the second position of the tubular element, a fluid passageway is opened from the reservoir to the delivery chamber allowing fluid to be drawn into the delivery chamber. A porous seal between the plunger rod and barrel allows air into the reservoir during transfer of fluid to the delivery chamber.

  • Patent number: 6128975
Abstract: Adjustable pliers for a constant tension hose clamp include a pair of arms pivotally connected together at intermediate portions of the arms. Each arm has a handle portion and a gripping portion, and the gripping portions have opposed ends that are spaced apart a predetermined distance. Each end has a grasping element, with each grasping element adapted to hold one actuating member of the hose clamp. This enables the hose clamp to be held by the grasping elements between the gripping portions to enlarge the diameter of the hose clamp by pressing the handle portions together. One of the arms has two separate sections, a gripper section and a handle section. These sections are rigidly connected together by an adjustable rod mechanism that enables the two sections to be moved relative to each other to change the angular relationship between the two sections by adjustment of the rod mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6122933
Abstract: A jewelry piece 10 includes a light transparent, ornamental element 20 and a light emitting diode 16 positioned near the ornamental element. A battery case 12 has a side wall 12b having a threaded opening 29 therein providing access to a battery being held within the battery case. A clasp 14 has an outwardly projecting threaded element 14b adapted to be received in the threaded opening 29. There is a first conductive wire 26 having one end connected to one terminal of the battery and another end connected to the diode 16 and a second conductive wire 30 having one end connected to the light source and another end having a clasp 14. The clasp 14, when partially inserted into the opening 29, completes a loop but does not contact the other terminal of the battery, preventing the diode 16 from being energized. When completely inserted into the opening 29, the clasp 14 makes contact with the other terminal of battery to energize the light source.
