  • Patent number: 5938146
Abstract: A silencing system includes a separation roller which is urged against or located as closely as possible to the main tape roll during the removal of tape. A point of tangency between the separation roll and the main roll forms a stable separation line as the tape is separated from the main supply roll. In a first embodiment, a separation roller is mounted to be pneumatically urged against the supply roll. The separation roller directs the tape from the supply roll through what is preferably a 180.degree. removal path to prevent any tension in the taped removed from being translated into a force which would work against the bearing force of the separation roller on the supply roll. In a second embodiment a mechanical spring is used to urge the separation roller against the supply roll. In both the first and second embodiments, one of the pivot arms is made thinner to accommodate the space normally occupied by a brake located adjacent the roll of material being separated.

  • Patent number: 5937866
Abstract: A hair dye applicator has a container having a variety of interchangeable components through which hair dye is discharged onto the hair. A first interchangeable component has a roller ball and is ideal for use when distribution of hair dye along a part at the root of the hair is desired. A second interchangeable component has a plurality of flexible brushes, and is ideal for distribution of hair dye throughout the hair and along the hair shafts. A third interchangeable component has a plurality of rigid combs, and is ideal for overall distribution of hair dye in coarse or thick hair. Both second and third interchangeable components contain a moveable disc which allows a user to control the rate of discharge of hair dye from the hair dye applicator. The hair dye applicator of the present invention has a lid that may be utilized to prevent spillage and to slow oxidation of unused hair dye which may be needed throughout the hair coloring process.

  • Patent number: 5937881
Abstract: A shading device includes an abbreviated height umbrella having a articulating ball attachment structure on both its upper and lower sides and attached to a pivoting arm through a series of universal connectors and joints having spherical articulating balls secured in articulating ball joints with tension force provided by joint retention screws. The umbrella can be either supported from the bottom or suspended from the top, to provide maximum articulation. A tripod folding stand has a body having an upper ribbed member for engagement with the clamp, and a series of three legs pivotally attached at an upper portion of the body and struts attached at a lower portion between the legs and body. The ends of the legs have pivotal spikes which can be pivoted to an open direction and directed into dirt or sand or other material, or used as hold down extensions.

  • Patent number: 5937928
Abstract: An improved system utilizes a series of structures which permit magnetic closure to be used in existing carriers and components. Magnetic support structures include members which ride in the carrier, as well as special size members which mount in the lead or wand carrier and which reside in the vertical blind track end caps. All of the structures are installable as retro-fit and which can work with existing tracks, carriers and end caps, even though these structures have been optimized for small size.

  • Patent number: 5934781
Abstract: An integrated lighting system designed to evenly illuminate the instruments, switches, warning placards and checklists includes a fiber-optic ribbons held in place and adhered to one or more of three specially designed bezels. A first embodiment includes a bezel which fits over, for example, a relatively smaller 21/4 inch standard size instrument. A second embodiment of the bezel fits over a standard size 31/8 inch instrument having no adjusting knobs which must be avoided. A third embodiment includes a bezel fits the 31/8 inch instrument with the cut-out for adjusting knobs. A fourth embodiment includes a channel support for mounting a printed label and which supports the label and accommodates fiber tape between the channel support and printed label.

  • Patent number: 5934902
Abstract: The oral cleansing device assembly is an oral hygiene tool which relies upon weak strength and small sized magnets in order to effect a change in the resonance and/or polarity of the water molecules such that the water is effective for cleaning debris, scale, and plaque from the teeth, gums, tongue, and oral cavity in general. The oral cleansing device assembly has a non-metallic housing which contains the magnets and tubing through which water passes when the device is in operation; the housing also doubles as a handle. The oral cleansing device assembly has jet-tips for discharging the water into an oral cavity; the jet-tips are attachable to a quick-connector within the housing of the oral cleansing device assembly. The oral cleansing device assembly is ideal and safe to use for any adult or child who seeks to avoid exposure to electromagnetic fields and who wishes to avoid use of high water pressure in their mouth care routine.

  • Patent number: 5913568
Abstract: A seat providing improved comfort includes a pair of moving seating assemblies. A motion mechanism provides each seating assembly with rocking movement and vertical movement. The seating assemblies are provided at a neutral angle that corresponds to the particular application of the seat. The amount of rocking movement and vertical movement is based on the neutral angle. In concert, the neutral angle orientation, rocking movement, and vertical movement cause the weight supported by an occupant's seat bones, posterior, and thighs to be optimally distributed on the seating assembly, improving seating comfort as applied to a given seating environment.

  • Patent number: 5906705
Abstract: The tape dispensers of the present invention employ a variety of features which may be used singly or in conjunction with the other features. The features include a mechanism which extends the blade when pivotal pressure is applied to a shield or lever, thus enabling the use of a sharper blade, and in a more extended configuration during the cutting of tape. Another feature is the fitting of a smaller sized spool to engage smaller diameter cores on which tape is provided with an adapter which fits onto the smaller sized spool and having a helixed slot is provided to insure that as the tape is being dispensed, the adapter is continuously urged into full engagement with the smaller sized spool. Other features are embodied into a base-type tape dispenser which includes a manual mechanism for obtaining lengths of tape, combined with the use of the portable portion which may be removed and used as a hand-held dispenser.

  • Patent number: 5897405
Abstract: A new and improved electrical socket contact has good structural integrity and a design which forestalls the possibility of having a male contact inadvertently inserted behind the spring contact. This is accomplished first through an overall design in which a spring contact section is completely surrounded by four side walls and a back wall, the walls having a generally box-like configuration. The spring section has a pair of overlying spring members, the innermost member having an overlying spring assist portion. The portion of the innermost spring portion nearest the socket opening is protected by a curved end portion of an overlying wall which also acts to protect the spring section. The socket contact of the present invention is formed from a single piece of flat material and is formed through several folding steps to achieve the final construction. The socket contact formed enables a high reliability very miniaturized contact.

  • Patent number: 5895428
Abstract: An implant is provided which has an upper member which pivots and is locked to a lower member and engages adjacent vertebrae and have surfaces which are ceramic and will allow bone growth into such surfaces and thus bonding with the adjacent vertebra. The opposing and bearing surfaces of the upper and lower member are coated with ceramic zirconium for long wear. Since the upper and lower members are captured, the implant device herein cannot be forced out of place by spinal tension. Particularly for the lower spinal vertebrae, the option of securing the upper and lower members with screws is facilitated. A vertebral replacement system using components in common with the implant is used to make a spaced connection between two pivoting points and is used to replace badly damaged vertebrae where the load bearing portion of the vertebra will be insufficient to allow normal support.
