Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a bonding method for brazing an amorphous carbon (AC) material to a metal material or a ceramic material, and to provide an electron tube device having an input/output window made of the amorphous carbon material. The surface of the amorphous carbon (AC) material is roughened to form an irregularity. A brazing material is sandwiched between the amorphous carbon material and a metal material or ceramic material. The resultant structure is heated to braze the amorphous carbon material to the metal material or ceramic material. The electron tube device includes a sealed vessel having an opening portion, a peripheral portion of which is made of a metal material or a ceramic material. The electron tube device further includes a window, made of an amorphous carbon material and bonded to the peripheral portion of the opening portion with a brazing material, and having irregularity on a surface around the opening portion.
Abstract: In a data recording method according to first aspect of the present invention for recording on a recording medium a video program containing multi-scene zone having a selectively reproducible scene is characterized in that, a set of small scene blocks each having prescribed number of video-frames is obtained by dividing standard and option scenes in the multi-scene zone, and the scene blocks of the standard and option scenes in the same order are combined together and recorded on the recording medium.
Abstract: A semiconductor laser module includes a semiconductor laser having an active region between a light-reflecting surface and a light-exit surface thereof, and an optical fiber optically coupled to the semiconductor laser and including an optical fiber diffraction grating. The optical fiber diffraction grating selectively reflects light within a predetermined wavelength band. The wavelength band has a width larger than a wavelength interval of a longitudinal mode of light resonating between the light-reflecting surface and the light-exit surface.
Abstract: Liquid nitromalonate polyesters and methods for their preparation are disclosed. Solid propellants are provided which employ as the binder a nitromalonate polyester. These propellants are resistant to plasticizer syneresis and crystallization and provide an increase in the specific impulse of the propellant.

The catalyst provide narrow distribution of alkoxylation species and efficient reaction rates.

Abstract: In an infra-red surveillance system, a digital memory (1) has a storage location for each of a number of zones, defined by azimuth and elevation co-ordinates, the zones together covering 360.degree. in azimuth and 20.degree., for example, in elevation. In each location there is stored a data word built up from the responses on a zone in successive scans. Each word can be read into a decoder (5) which selects an appropriate video display level in the form of a two-bit word which is then stored in a buffer store (6). A buffer store data controls the display on a cathode ray tube (2). A manually controlled cursor circuit (8) generates a cursor address which results in a cursor display at the corresponding position on the cathode ray tube. The display is in the form of four strips, one above the other, each representing a quadrant of azimuth.
Abstract: An apparatus for biological treatment comprises a body, a light source inside the body, a concave mirror mounted in an axial guide on a side of the body, an optical filter on the opposite side in an opening, a fan between the source and the concave mirror, two reflector cylinders positioned symmetrically between the source and the optical filter and rotating in opposite directions, and a rotary shalter disc at the same location as the optical filter and with orifices positioned coaxially with respect to the optical filter creating the effect of a light flux made up of the rays reflected by the mirror and the fan blades after the latter have received them from the source and the reflector cylinders. The apparatus is used for various biological treatment such as the treatment of viral diseases, rheumatic states, and the like.

Abstract: The invention is directed to preventing meltdown of conductive metal electrodes 5, 5 used to supply current to a heater 104 of a crucible 103. A single crystal pulling apparatus comprises: the heater 104 which encircles the crucible 103, and the pair of electrodes 5, 5, respectively threaded to a pair of graphite intermediate electrodes 6 of the heater 104, and a voltage source 9 for supplying power to the pair of electrodes 5, 5. A switch 11 switches the power on and off. A watthour meter 10a, continuously measures the current flowing through the heater 104. Investigation by the present inventors showed that in the case of a crack 8 in a lower portion of the intermediate electrode 6, minute fluctuations occurred in the measured value of the current, arising from an electric discharge phenomena in the crack 8 prior to meltdown of the electrodes 5, 5.
Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions comprising analogues of purine nucleosides containing a ring-expanded ("fat") heterocyclic ring, in place of purine, and an unmodified or modified sugar residue, pharmaceutically acceptable derivatives of such compositions, as well as methods of use thereof. In particular, these compositions may be utilized in the treatment of certain cancers, bacterial, fungal, parasitic, and viral infections, including, but not limited to, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and hepatitis.

Abstract: Hyaluronidase inhibitor containing GOD-type ellagitannin as an active ingredient, as well as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics containing the inhibitor. Abstract: A wiring layer of a semiconductor device having a novel contact structure is disclosed. The semiconductor device includes a semiconductor substrate, an insulating layer having an opening (contact hole) and a first conductive layer formed on the insulating layer which completely fills the opening. The first conductive layer does not produce any Si precipitates in a subsequent heat-treating step for filling the opening with the first conductive layer material. The semiconductor device may further include a second conductive layer having a planarized surface on the first conductive layer. This improves subsequent photolithography. An anti-reflective layer may be formed on the second conductive layer for preventing an unwanted reflection during a photo lithography process.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a vibration insulating assembly including a rubber vibration insulator and metallic members bonded thereto. In particular, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing the same, by which the quality of the resulting assembly is improved by providing a high bonding strength between the vibration insulator and metallic members. Retainers are provided about the peripheries of the bonding surfaces of the rubber vibration insulator in order to restrict displacement and deformation of the rubber vibration insulator across the bonding surfaces or at the bonding interface with the metallic members and to facilitate its positioning. The presence of the retainers allows for the application of a predetermined pressure on the bonding surfaces to enhance the bonding strength while preventing an undesirable strain from forming in the bonding surface of the rubber vibration insulator.

Abstract: An emitter switched thyristor has an enlarged safe operating range. A semiconductor substrate of a first conductivity type (a p-type) is provided and a semiconductor region of a second conductivity type (an n-type) is formed on the substrate. A well region of the first conductivity type is formed within the semiconductor region, and a plurality of well subregions of the second conductivity type are formed within the well region. The well subregions are all separated from each other by a separating portion of the well region. A plurality of electrode contacts are provided, including a gate electrode in contact with the well region and at least first and second cathode electrodes. The second cathode electrode is in contact with the separating portion of the well region.
