  • Patent number: 5010388
Abstract: A connection structure between lead frames and a base plate of aluminum nitride, to be applied as a connection structure between components of a semiconductor apparatus, has a base plate made of a sintered body of aluminum nitride on which a semiconductor device is to be mounted. The lead frames are made of iron alloy containing nickel in 29 wt. % and cobalt in 17 wt. %. A silver solder is used for joining the base plate and the lead frames. A surface of the lead frame to be joined to the base plate is clad with a stress relief layer of oxygen-free copper of a high plastic deformability to relieve, by its plastic deformation, a thermal stress caused by a difference between a thermal expansion coefficient of the aluminum nitride base plate and that of the lead frame in a cooling process at the time of soldering. Preferably, only a portion of each lead frame to be joined to the base plate comprises an inner layer of an iron alloy containing 29 wt. % of nickel and 17 wt.

  • Patent number: 5005724
Abstract: An internal floating cover for covering and sealing the surface of a liquid stored in a tank having an external roof, has a flexible thin-walled membrane which floats on the surface of the liquid. The membrane is provided with at least one float and a seal around its perimeter edge or rim extending near and along the wall of the storage tank. The dimensions of the membrane are oversized relative to the corresponding liquid surface dimension of the tank and/or the membrane is made with a certain elasticity so that the membrane may bulge in a hood- or dome-shaped out of the plane of its contact with the inner tank surface. The movable connection between the membrane rim or edge includes clamping strips or contact elements on the floats or on a perimeter seal. The bulging of the membrane may occur upwardly under the effect of gas pressure or may occur downwardly under the effect of reduced pressure during draining of the liquid. At least one pressure relief valve is arranged in the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5006694
Abstract: A laser operation such as a laser welding operation or a laser cutting operation is improved in its quality and a consistently high quality is achieved by arranging auxiliary tool units upstream and/or downstream of a main laser tool unit including a primary laser head on a common tool carrier. The secondary tool units upstream of the laser operation are intended for a preliminary surface treatment to present the most appropriate surface conditions for the following laser operation. Similarly, the tool units arranged downstream of the laser operation are intended for subsequent work operations such as an immediate cleaning operation, a coating operation or the like to avoid a reoxidation of the welding seam or of the cut edge of the work piece. The secondary tools make sure that the laser operation is enhanced or improved either by presenting optimal conditions for the laser operation or by improving the work piece subsequent to the laser operation.

  • Patent number: 5003887
Abstract: A gas generator for inflating an inflatable article such as a safety bag or raft, has a reaction chamber (1) surrounded by a ring-shaped filter chamber (2). First gas exit openings (10 to 15) permit generated gas to flow from the reaction chamber into the filter chamber. Second gas exit openings (22) lead from the filter chamber into the inflatable article. A temperature responsive flow control is provided to make sure that the inflation efficiency or the inflation pressure inside the inflated article is substantially constant and substantially independent of the temperature of the gas generator at which the ignition of a gas generating fuel begins.

  • Patent number: 5001917
Abstract: In a straightening or truing operation for straightening out of true work pieces the characteristic fatigue strength or an increased fatigue strength achieved in a previous strengthening operation of the work piece to be straightened, is maintained. This is achieved by a truing operation, wherein locally bounded compressive residual stresses are induced in a surface layer zone of the work piece by a hardening operation, whereby the respective out of true deformation of the work piece is at least reduced. The truing operation may then be repeated until the out of true deformation is eliminated. The compressive residual forces are induced in a surface layer zone of the work piece by a locally bounded hardening operation or a strengthening rolling operation. By appropriately varying the extent of hardening or the rolling force respectively, the magnitude and angle of any out of true deformation may be affected so as to be even completely eliminated, for example.

  • Patent number: 5001088
Abstract: A porous form body is produced of sinterable SiC-powder by forming a suitable suspension of said SiC-powder and then treating the suspension to convert it into droplets and the droplets into a granular material in which the granules are substantially larger than the particles of SiC-powder. The granular material is then formed into a green body, e.g. by spraying the granules onto a negative mold of the form body or slip-casting or the like. The green body is then sintered whereby the resulting porosity in the final form body provides the form body with low drag.

  • Patent number: 5000479
Abstract: A housing for a gas generator for inflating a safety bag in a passenger vehicle is constructed of modular units preferably having a tubular or cylindrical tubular configuration. At least one combustion chamber and one filter casing are joined to each other so that the longitudinal axes of the units align with each other longitudinally. An axially facing gas exit from the combustion chamber into the filter casing provides an initially axial gas flow which is then diverted radially outwardly from the filter casing into the safety bag.

  • Patent number: 4998750
Abstract: A gas generator has a gas generating combustion chamber with an igniter or fuse for igniting an ignitable charge needed for the gas generation. At least one filter housing is attached to the gas generating chamber. The generated pressurized gases enter into the filter housing in one direction, for example an axial direction, and pass out of the filter in another direction, for example in a radial direction, under the influence of a gas flow distribution member which makes sure that the filter volume is efficiently used by uniformly distributing the gas volume throughout the filter volume. The gas exiting from the filter housing inflates a safety bag for the protection of persons in a vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4997513
Abstract: Preimpregnated fiber reinforced tapes, so-called prepregs, are dispensed and deposited in a molding and bonding apparatus by a device in which a supply spool or roller carrying the tape is supported by a carrier having an adapter for connection to an arm of a conventional industrial robot. The carrier also supports feed rollers for advancing the tape and a cutter for cutting the tape. The feed rollers are secured to a support which in turn is secured to a fixed member by guide elements and biasing springs for a vertical guiding of the support movement. All drive members are controllable, so that all functions can be performed under the control of a computer in accordance with a program stored in the computer. Thus, the tape dispensing, application, and cutting takes place substantially automatically.

  • Patent number: 4996864
Abstract: A drawing machine for drawing a workpiece (41) comprises first and second drawing dies (42, 43), first and second push rods (45, 46, 47, 48) and first and second junction rods (53, 54). When the first push rods (45, 46) are downwardly moved, the first junction rod (53) is pressed and moved by the first push rod (45) to press the first drawing die (42). Consequently, the first drawing die (42) forms a first-stage drawn part in the workpiece (41). When the second push rods (47, 48) are downwardly moved, the second junction rod (54) is pressed and moved by the second push rod (48), to press the second drawing die (43). Consequently, the second drawing die (43) forms a second-stage drawn part in the workpiece (42). Thus, a plurality of stages of drawn parts can be formed by the same machine. A large number of holes (51, 52) may be provided in a junction die (55) for receiving junction rods (53 ), to insert the junction rods (53) in only prescribed ones of the holes.

  • Patent number: 4993666
Abstract: In a pivotable seat especially for a flight attendant in an aircraft, the backrest and the seat part are constructed to be pivotable together about an approximately vertical axis when the seat part is pivoted about an approximately horizontal axis into an upright position. The seat is secured to a carrying structure of the aircraft. The seat plate (25) and the backrest carrier plate (27) are milled parts. A spring is activated by tilting the seat part (2) into an upright position, whereby the seat 1 is biased into a recess (15) for storage. For pivoting the seat out of the use position into the recess (15) during non-use, only the locking of the seat part must be released and the seat part tilts itself into the vertical position, whereby the mentioned spring is activated for pivoting the seat into the recess (15) and locking it automatically in the recess.
