  • Patent number: 4592668
Abstract: In a marking system for stamping materials such as aluminum strip, a pulse of determined energy is supplied to a solenoid, to impart a determined kinetic energy to a die. The die is guided to dissipate substantially all of this kinetic energy in the deformation of the material being stamped. The pulse of energy applied to the solenoid may be controlled by a programmable computer, programmed to control the duration of time that a current is applied to the solenoid. The computer may control a plurality of such solenoids, controlling the times and relative numbers of operation of each of the solenoids.

  • Patent number: 4572678
Abstract: A cage for a ball bearing is formed by a series of side rings connected in a circular arrangement by crosspieces. The crosspieces have surfaces formed thereon for defining cage pockets in which balls are inserted and held. Each side ring is thin-walled, whereas the crosspieces are relatively thick, so that the cage is elastic. The walls of each cage pocket comprise four circular cylindrical surfaces, an opposing pair of which are integrally connected to converging conical surfaces formed on the projections. The projections may extend either radially inwardly or radially outwardly from the crosspieces or both. The balls of the bearing are held in the pockets by the converging conical surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4563099
Abstract: A rolling bearing unit, in particular a play-adjustable bearing arrangement, comprising a bearing shaft, a housing having a bore, and angular contact ball bearings having outer rings arranged in the housing bore and inner rings arranged on the bearing shaft. The shaft is provided with three annular grooves, a threaded portion, and an axial groove along the threaded portion. A locking ring is arranged in the first annular groove, a first cover is arranged on the shaft and abuts the locking ring, and the inner ring of the first bearing abuts the cover. The adjustment of the bearing play is achieved by adjustably arranging a second cover on the threaded portion of the shaft to abut the inner ring of the other ball bearing. The securing of the second cover against rotation relative to the shaft is achieved by deforming or indenting the boss of the cover to engage the axial groove.

The outer cylindrical sleeve comprises two portions of different inner diameter and a bead connecting the portions. One portion fixedly contacts the non-rotating bearing ring and the end face of the annular piston flange, and the other portion covers a portion of the outer sliding surface of the annular piston. The compression spring is arranged between the bead of the outer cylindrical sleeve and the flange of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4558962
Abstract: A snap ring for axially holding an axially inserted machine element has a ring joint in the installed condition and is positioned with radial prestress in an annular groove formed in the bore of a ring, housing or the like. In order to ensure that the snap ring does not snap out of the annular groove when axial loading is exerted, the ring joint is formed by the interlocking of at least one projection formed on one end of the snap ring and a corresponding recess formed in the other end of the snap ring, each having oblique surfaces for preventing relative radial displacement between and for aligning the respective ends having the projection formed thereon and the recess formed therein.

  • Patent number: 4557708
Abstract: A tension roller for enabling adjustment of the tightness of a driving belt, comprising a solid support and a bearing press-fit thereon. The solid support has an axially extending mounting bore eccentrically arranged therein and a seating surface formed circumferentially thereon. A plurality of balanced bores are circumferentially distributed in the support in order to obtain a uniform radial elasticity at the seating surface. The balance bores may have a diameter equal to or less than the diameter of the mounting bore. In the latter case, the shortest distance between the balance bore surfaces and the seating surface is equal to the shortest distance between the mounting bore surface and the seating surface. The resultant uniformity of the radial elasticity prevents deformation of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 4537270
Abstract: A bearing arrangement for a driven wheel of a vehicle, comprised of a rolling bearing whose outer ring is provided with a flange for affixing the assembly to a vehicle frame or the like. A wheel hub is provided with a flange for supporting a wheel. A drive joint is provided for driving the hub wheel, and a pin or the like is provided for holding the parts together. The axially engaging end surfaces of the wheel hub and drive joint are provided with engaging teeth for the transmission of torques. In order to interconnect the parts precisely to one another for centering and to ensure their reliable interconnection, the inner ring of the rolling bearing is mounted on the outer surface of the wheel hub and/or the drive joint, and end surfaces of the inner ring abut first shoulder surfaces of the wheel hub and the drive joint. The wheel hub and the drive joint directly abut one another at the end surfaces with are provided with substantially axially extending and intermeshing projections.

  • Patent number: 4534749
Abstract: A roller casing for a pulley is comprised of coaxial ring halves mounted one over the other. The diameter of the running surface can be varied without varying the bearing size by employing corrugations in the circumferential direction, or by providing lateral radially outwardly directed rims on the inner ring part. Alternatively the iner ring may be comprised of two ring halves having their central parts directed toward one another.

  • Patent number: 4534095
Abstract: In a cage for rolling bearings, the material of the webs is forced into the cage pockets on the outer surface of the cage, to hold the rolling bodies from falling out of the pockets radially outwardly of the cage. The material of the webs is also formed to provide the projections extending perpendicularly from the inner surface of the webs, in order to inhibit falling out of the rolling bodies radially inwardly of the cage pockets.

  • Patent number: 4514688
Abstract: An improved position determination device utilizes an energized movable pointer which is inductively coupled to a grid of spaced parallel electrical conductors for each coordinate direction. The termini of the spaced conductors of each grid are traversed by a respective magnetostrictive element. Strain waves are propagated from the region where each magnetostrictive element is traversed by the respective energized conductors to a sensor and the time between arrival of the strain waves and the arrival of reference strain waves from reference points on the magnetostrictive elements is computed to determine the coordinates of the pointer.
