  • Patent number: 8245949
Abstract: A hot water circuit (50) supplies water to a plurality of rooms (20) in a building from a central water source (22). Each room (20) has dispenser (24) and an air conditioner (28) and a liquid heat exchanger (38). The air conditioner (28) includes a condenser (30) that abuts the liquid heat exchanger (38) for warming the water from the central water source (22). When too much water is heated, some returns to the central water source (22). Some water is cooled by a dissipating heat exchanger (76, 74) disposed on a heated water return line (70). The return line (70) is connected to the central water source (22). An auxiliary system (84) runs through the dissipating heat exchanger (76, 74) to cool the water in the return line (70).

  • Patent number: 8249792
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and device for protecting an aircraft comprising at least one wing-mounted engine arranged on each of its wings against at least one of a low-energy situation and a high-energy situation during flight in which at least one engine is a failed engine. A control unit is triggered to activate a protection function, as a function of the number and position of failed engines. The control unit controls at least one non-failed engine, and the protection function is activated when activation conditions are met. The activation conditions indicate that the aircraft is either in the low-energy situation such that the total current power of the aircraft is less than a predetermined minimum power or that the aircraft is in the high-energy situation such that the total current power of the aircraft is greater than a predetermined maximum total power.

  • Patent number: 8240642
Abstract: A monotube shock absorber assembly includes a housing (20), a gas cup (32) slidably disposed in the interior (28) of the housing (20), and a piston (42) slidably disposed in the interior (28) of the housing (20) to define an oil compression chamber (48) between the piston (42) and the gas cup (32). A cushion (58) engages one of the piston (42) and the gas cup (32) and extends axially into the oil compression chamber (48) for intermittent contact with the other of the piston (42) and the gas cup (32). The cushion (58) is a resilient material and deforms in response to the cushion (58) contacting the other of the piston (42) and the gas cup (32). In a preferred embodiment, the cushion (58) defines a central opening (60) for decreasing the axial stiffness of the cushion (58) and engages the gas cup (32) for intermittent contact with the piston (42).

  • Patent number: 8240615
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and device for automatically protecting an aircraft against a hard landing. A measuring unit measures current vertical speed and current relative height of the aircraft. A first command generating unit generates first commands to act on the vertical speed of the aircraft by determining an intermediate command from the measured vertical speed and height and converting the intermediate command into turn angles. A speed calculation unit applies the first commands to control surfaces. The first commands are generated from the measured current vertical speed and height, taking into account a predetermined reference vertical speed, such that the aircraft touches down on the ground at a vertical speed not greater than the predetermined reference vertical speed.

  • Patent number: 8240128
Abstract: The present invention relates to an exhaust system having a riser adapted to be mounted to the exhaust inlet of a marine engine and a turndown connected to the riser. The riser and turndown define a primary exhaust passage to direct exhaust gases downwardly toward the discharge opening. A secondary passage, a tube, is integrated to the turndown within the primary exhaust passage. An O2 sensor is mounted within the tube. The tube has a diameter that is less than the diameter of the primary exhaust passage. With the diameter being less, the exhaust gases in the secondary passage have a pressure that is greater than in the primary exhaust passage which eliminates or at least reduces the ability for water to enter the secondary passage protecting the O2 sensor from damage.
