Abstract: An adjustable ring according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a ring portion having an outer surface and an inner surface defining an opening for receiving a finger therethrough; a movable segment coupled to the ring portion and movable between a first position and a second position; and a spring element coupled to the ring portion and the movable segment to allow movement of the movable segment between the first position and the second position. According to another embodiment of the present invention, the adjustable ring further includes an insert portion coupled to an inner surface of the ring portion, the insert portion having an opening; and the movable segment coupled to the insert portion and having a surface movable through the insert portion opening.
Abstract: A foldable stroller frame assembly includes a bottom frame unit, front and rear frame units connected pivotally to the bottom frame unit, and a handle unit pivotable relative to the front and rear frame units. The bottom frame unit includes a generally V-shaped bottom frame member adapted for mounting rotatably a pair of rear wheels thereon, and a wheel mounting frame member connected to the bottom frame member and adapted for mounting rotatably a front wheel thereon.
Abstract: A system and method for archiving and retrieving information from an array of remote sensors. In a preferred embodiment the invention is incorporated in a gunshot detection and location system to preserve audio information surrounding a gunshot event for later review or analysis. In a preferred embodiment the system includes a plurality of acoustic sensors deployed in an array, a computer for processing gunshot information from the sensors, and a mass storage device for temporary archival of audio information. When a gunshot event is detected, the location of the audio information of the data within the spool is stored in an index to facilitate later retrieval of the information.
Abstract: A method of inspecting a display panel having a substrate and a plurality of fluorescent layers including measuring bright and dark signals reflected by the fluorescent layers while moving the substrate or an illuminating means generating the signals and an imaging means receiving the signals in a direction across the plurality of fluorescent layers at predetermined intervals, and measuring an application volume for each fluorescent layer from the signals obtained by the imaging means.
Abstract: A wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) module for transmitting and/or receiving multiple signals simultaneously includes an array of vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) and/or photodetectors, respectively. In the transmitter case, different VCSELs are operated at different wavelengths that change depending on a value of a condition such as temperature and/or one or more other parameters. Multiple VCSELs are assigned to each channel of the WDM. The currently active VCSEL is switched to a different VCSEL assigned to a same channel and preferably having an operating wavelength that is closer to the signal wavelength at the current measured or estimated temperature and/or other parameter value. Multiple photodetectors are assigned to each channel of the WDM, and currently active detector is switched to the second detector within the same channel.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the operating condition of a turbine engine. An eddy current sensor is provided having a sensing field in communication with a plurality of rotating turbine blades during a revolution of a turbine engine. A threshold point value is defined for the signature data. A plurality of positive threshold point pairs and negative threshold point pairs are identified. A plurality of positive threshold widths from a plurality of times elapsed between the positive threshold point pairs and a plurality of negative threshold widths from a plurality of times elapsed between the negative threshold point pairs are determined. A plurality of threshold ratios are determined from a plurality of pairs of positive and negative threshold widths. A variance of the threshold ratios is correlated with an operating condition of the turbine engine.

Abstract: A method of forming an array of floating gate memory cells, and an array formed thereby, that includes source and drain regions formed in a substrate, and a conductive block of material disposed over the source region. The floating gate is formed as a thin, L-shaped layer of conductive material having a first portion disposed over the channel region and a second portion extending vertically along the conductive block. The control gate includes a first portion disposed adjacent to and insulated from a distal end of the floating gate first portion, and a second portion disposed adjacent to the channel region. A portion of the control gate could extend into a trench formed into the substrate, wherein the drain region is formed underneath the trench, and the channel region has a first portion extending along the trench sidewall and a second portion extending along the substrate surface.
Abstract: A 3-layer Virtual Private Network (VPN) is disclosed and includes P devices and PE devices in the backbone network, a plurality of sites and CE devices in subscribers' VPNs, and Hierarchy of PE (HoPE) devices, the HoPE devices serve as edge routers in the backbone network and are connected to P devices in the backbone network as well as sites and CE devices in subscribers' VPNs; the HoPE devices include understratum PEs (UPEs), zero or more middle-level PEs (MPEs) and superior PEs (SPEs) connected with each other, and all of the PEs (UPEs, MPEs, and SPEs) take different roles and deliver the function of a central PE. For the SPEs, the routing and forwarding performance should be relatively higher; while for UPEs, the performance may be lower. The architecture can enhance the expandability in hierarchical BGP/MPLS VPNs.
Abstract: An memory device, and method of making same, that includes source and drain regions defining a channel region therebetween. A select gate is formed over and insulated from a first portion of the channel region. A conductive floating gate is disposed over and insulated from the source region and a second portion of the channel region. A notch is formed in the floating gate bottom surface having an edge that is either aligned with an edge of the source region or is disposed over the source region. A conductive control gate is disposed adjacent to the floating gate. By having the source region terminate under the thicker insulation region provided by the notch, the breakdown voltage of the source junction is increased. Alternately, the lower portion of the floating gate is formed entirely over the source region, for producing fringing fields to control the adjacent portion of the channel region.
Abstract: An integrated module frame and racking system for a solar panel is disclosed. The solar panel comprises a plurality of solar modules and a plurality of splices for coupling the plurality of solar modules together. The plurality of splices provide a way to make the connected modules mechanically rigid both during transport to the roof and after mounting for the lifetime of the system, provide wiring connections between modules, provide an electrical grounding path for the modules, provide a way to add modules to the panel, and provide a way to remove or change a defective module. Connector sockets are provided on the sides of the modules to simplify the electrical assembly of modules when the modules are connected together with splices.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining thickness of a metallic layer being deposited on a collector. The method includes applying an electromagnetic field to a conductive layer on the collector. Then the temperature or the change in temperature of the collector is determined. The metal thickness is determined as a function of the temperature or change in temperature. The apparatus includes a collector, a thermocouple associated with the collector, and a source of an electromagnetic field.
