  • Patent number: 5741419
Abstract: An apparatus for filtering a liquid slurry is described. The apparatus uses a pair of filter chambers formed by a pair of fixed plates, and a pair of opposed moveable plates. The moveable plates are moved into engagement with the fixed plates by the downward movement of a wedge member disposed between the plates and, the plates are bias so that when the wedge member is withdrawn, the plates will be drawn together opening the filter chambers. The chambers are sealed by opposed arcuate gaskets so that the sealing action is achieved by internal pressure rather than the pressure driving the plates together. A filter media is provided on a continuous roll which extends between the gaskets and is intended to carry the filter cake out of the chamber when the plates are separated whereupon the cake will be dropped from the filter media into a collection area so that the filter media can be reused.

  • Patent number: 5724963
Abstract: A portable filter for a compressed air system is described. The filter is intended to be worn by an operator, and contains a diverter valve whereby air from a remote air compressor enters the filter, and is divided into a flow to a work line, and a regulated flow to a conventional respirator mask to provide breathing air to the operator. The air diverted to the operator passes through a three-stage filter consisting of elements in series which are designed to both remove impurities from the air, and register excessive moisture content therein as a warning to the operator. The flow to the work line is typically a five foot line to an air-driven implement such as a paint sprayer or the like.

  • Patent number: 5715048
Abstract: A calibration system for a measuring device utilizing a photo multiplier tube is provided. The calibration system is intended to provide a stable light source variable over a wide range of intensities which can be used to calibrate the PMT reading using a closed loop feedback circuit. The LED and a photo cell are disposed in a reference block chamber whereby the photo cell is in close proximity disposed perpendicular to the axis of the LED. The LED being dome shaped will direct light energy on to the photo cell, and also peripherally. The PMT is disposed adjacent the LED and at an angle to its longitudinal axis whereby light generated by the PMT simultaneously strikes both the photo cell and the PMT without reflection.

  • Patent number: 5709513
Abstract: An improved mounting structure includes a soft mounting sleeve having a locking hole at a central position for fitting into a through hole of a mount, and a screw fitted with a washer. In assembly, the screw is inserted into the mounting sleeve fitted into the mount before driven into a frame structure. When the screw is driven into the top side of the mount, the bottom side of the mounting sleeve will elevate with the turning of the screw to impose a pressure on the screw threads, thus preventing the screw from being driven further and achieving a good mounting effect. This arrangement also prevents the screw from driving unduly deep into the frame structure due to excessive torsional force to prevent any possible damage to the frame structure or the screw threads.

  • Patent number: 5700103
Abstract: A mounting structure including a locking plate disposed between a mount and a frame structure is described. The locking plate is provided with a central locking hole. A screw is provided with a washer that has a plurality of teeth at the outer periphery of its bottom side. The screw is passed through the washer, the mount and the locking plate into the flame structure. The teeth of the washer clutch the surface of the mount and prevent movement with the turning of the screw. The locking plate will slightly elevate with the turning of the screw, imposing a pressure on the screw to stop it from turning. This ensures firm locking of the mount to the frame structure preventing the screw from driving unduly deep into the frame structure to damage the frame structure or the screw threads.

  • Patent number: 5697217
Abstract: A turbocharged diesel engine has a two-stage turbocharger assembly comprising two low-pressure turbochargers coupled in parallel arranged in series with a single high-pressure turbocharger. This allows all turbochargers to be of comparable dimensions and allows for interchangeability of parts. The turbochargers may be mounted on an enclosure which encloses the turbines and the exhaust gas duct work and which communicates with the exhaust pipe to ensure that any leaking exhaust gas escapes to the atmosphere via the exhaust pipe.

  • Patent number: 5694290
Abstract: A replaceable hard disk drive box structure including a box body and a securing seat accommodating the box body. The box body comprises a base, an inner face plate, an upper cover, and a handle. The inner face plate has two outwardly projecting mounting portions for accommodating respective fans. An identification code display is disposed between the mounting portions to allow the user to directly locate the hard disk on the SCSI interface. The outer ends of the inner face plate are respectively provided with coupling portions for connecting the handle. The handle has a projection resembling a quadrant of a circle at either end thereof so that the curvature of the projection of the handle may urge against a rectangular recess at either end of an access of the securing seat when the box body is pulled out, so that the connecting ports of the box body and the securing seat may smoothly disengage, achieving fast and easy installation and removal.

  • Patent number: 5688400
Abstract: A modular sewage treatment plant is disclosed using a vessel adapted to contain the standard three phases of a sewage treatment, aeration, settling and clarification. The vessel of this invention uses an inverted, centrally located funnel section to received raw sewage to be treated at the upper opening, and to inject air, counter-currently, at a 180 degree angle to the descending sewage. The aerated sewage leaves the bottom of the aeration section and solids enter a settling section therebelow whereas water to be clarified rises around the outer surface of the funnel shaped aeration section. A hopper shaped bottom in the settling section is provided to facilitated solids removal and a weir system is provided on the upper surface of the clarification section to serve as a scum remover for the clarified water.

  • Patent number: 5670118
Abstract: A method and procedure for color coding cuvettes used in laboratory tests without contaminating the interior thereof or changing its binding properties is described. In the procedure of this invention, transparent plastic cuvettes are utilized which are flat bottomed and have a depending rim surrounding the flat bottom. The depending surface of the rim then has color applied thereto by a conventional technique either hot stamping, or by ultra-violet cured silk screen printing. In either event, a colored surface is formed on the rim. The transparent walls of the cuvette then by light pipe effect give the appearance that the color surrounds the upper opening of such cuvette when in fact the opening is of transparent plastic.
