Abstract: A narrow and deep aperture is chemically etched in or through a body of, for example, cadmium mercury telluride or other infrared sensitive material. The etchant is constrained and etches faster adjacent to side walls of a mask on the body. Those side walls are sufficiently close to each other than the faster etching areas overlap. Apertures or slots having a width of about 7 um may be etched in this manner through a thickness of about 5 um via windows having a width of about 3 um in a photo resist of a thickness between 4 and 5 um.

Abstract: A helmet display system is provided comprising a display visor 3 located on helmet 1 on which helmet is also positioned image projection means for projecting an image via a holographic combiner 4 on the display visor 3. The helmet further comprises an anti-glare visor 2 which has optical transmission characteristics similar to those of a neutral density visor, with the exception that these characteristics are modified to compensate for the low transmission value of the display visor 3 to frequencies within a narrow waveband to which the combiner 4 is tuned. The invention provides a helmet display system which can be used in conjunction with an aircraft head-up display if required.

Abstract: A structure for connecting a nailing plate and magazine of a nailing machine includes a couple of corresponding baffle pieces respectively disposed at opposite longitudinal ends of the nailing plate, a couple of lugs located at both sides of one of the baffle pieces, and a connecting seat provided at a suitable position of the nailing plate. One side of the connecting seat is provided with through holes while the other side thereof is provided with a safety bar bracket. When the magazine is secured to the nailing plate, it may be restricted and positioned by the baffle pieces and the lugs. Locking screws are further used to securely lock the magazine to the connecting seat of the nailing plate.

Abstract: A charcoal barbecue having a layer of aluminum foil covered a rectangular corrugated box is forming an outer of the charcoal barbecue. The bottom portion of one side thereof is cut to form two door panels and can be opened into a ventilation orifice, inner side of said box with an aluminum foil and a partition rack positioned at the top portion of said box. Smoke-free charcoals are arranged in the top of the rack and a bulge is disposed in a corrugated board for fixing the top of said smoke-free charcoals. Two sides smoke-free charcoals. Two sides of the corrugated board are disposed with oil-absorbing paper and a rectangular fixing board is positioned at the top of said smoke-free charcoals. An inverted `U` shape barbecue mesh is engaged with the top of the corrugated box.

Abstract: A turbocharged diesel engine having a two stage turbocharger assembly is described. The assembly includes two low pressure turbochargers coupled in parallel and arranged in series with a single high pressure turbocharger. This allows all turbochargers to be of comparable dimensions and allows for interchangeability of parts between low pressure and high pressure turbochargers. The turbochargers may be mounted on an enclosure which encloses the turbines and the exhaust gas ductwork and which communicates with the exhaust pipe to insure that any leaking exhaust gas escapes to the atmosphere via the exhaust pipe.

Abstract: An adjustable hairdresser's chair is described. The chair includes a motor housing base which has a front shell and a rear shell interconnected by a bellows. A front seat is mounted on the front shell and a rear seat is mounted on the rear shell. The rear seat is vertically adjustable and horizontally adjustable relative to the front seat, while the front seat is horizontally rotatably adjustable, only. A first reversible drive controls the front seat unit. A second reversible drive vertically adjusts the rear seat unit and a third reversible drive controls the rear seat development relative to the front seat to change the distance therebetween.

Abstract: A gear structure including an internal gear and an external gear meshed together and moved relative to each other through a rotary motion, the radius of the root arcs of the teeth of the external gear being M, which is the ratio between the diameter of the crest and the number of teeth, and being the line of arc in tangent with the crest arcs of each two adjacent teeth, the tooth form curve of the internal gear being obtained by connecting all engaging points at the crest arcs and root arcs of the external gear.

Abstract: An improved luminometer is provided which uses a top loading plate carrier which receives a microtitration plate and uses a mask having an aperture corresponding to each test cell in the plate carrier. When the mask rotates downwardly to cover the microtitration plate, the plate carrier automatically orients the microtitration plate in the X, Y and Z directions. Reagents are added to the individual test cells through the mask aperture. Each reagent injector is extendable and retractable so that liquids can be added below the mask aperture during purging or washing and then the injector retracted. A pump is provided for each injector which is driven by a stepper motor and a rack and pinion connection to a syringe.

Abstract: According to a first aspect of the invention, a power control switch comprises two solid state switching elements (14, 15) in parallel, the second switching element (15) having a higher resistance but faster turn-off time than the first element. In operation the switch is pulse width modulated and the first element is switched off after the second element to establish a guard period, the duration of which is controlled in dependence upon the duty cycle to provide efficient switching. According to a second aspect of the invention a power control switch comprises a switching element (14 or 15) controlled by a field programmable gate array (5) which is preferably programmed by an erasable programmable read only memory (EPROM), thereby providing a reconfigurable control means.

Abstract: A portable motor-driven device is described for cleaning balls. The device includes a cup having a cleaning medium mounted therein which forms all or a portion of a ball receiving recess and a spindle disposed thereover. The spindle engages a ball retained within the recess, and a motor provided rotates the spindle thereby rotating the ball against the cleaning medium. A solvent may be used if desired.

Abstract: There is disclosed therein a method and a tufted construction formed of a thermoplastic sheet which defines a two-dimensional projection of a three-dimensional tufted construction design which has integrally mutually spaced prefused tufts mounted at preselected areas on one surface thereof. The three-dimensional design includes a radial surface having said tufts thereon and a handle portion so that when the projection is assembled and the edges thereof joined, the three-dimensional design will be complete.

Abstract: In a exhaust smoke sensor a light emitter generates a light beam which passes through a region containing the exhaust gas to a first light sensor. To reduce interference the light emitter is driven by a near square wave signal produced by passing a square wave through a low pass filter.

Abstract: A magazine assembly for a pneumatic staple gun, including a magazine base, a mounting plate fixedly secured to the magazine base having one end covered over the bottom side of the magazine base and an opposite end connected to the gun body of the pneumatic staple gun, a magazine cover covered on the magazine base at one side, a hooked stop plate fixedly secured to the rear end of the magazine base, an end block fixedly secured to the rear end of the magazine cover, and a constraint member turned about a pivot on the end block and having a lever at one end supported on a return spring and a hook at an opposite end detachably hooked up with the hooked stop plate.

Abstract: An ink jet droplet generator is described, including a nozzle plate bonded to a carrier. A tuned piezo crystal and metal structure projects into an ink cavity and is mounted on a print head structure. The nozzle carrier is separated by a spacer from the print head structure and seals are provided to seal the cavity. A pillar is provided with a height slightly greater than that of the spacer between the print head structure and the nozzle carrier. The spacer is isolated from the print head structure, pillar and nozzle carrier by seals and O-ring which surrounds the pillar. In another embodiment, layers of acoustically absorbent material are provided between the spacer and each of the print head structure and nozzle element.

Abstract: A lamp holder assembly including an upper shell and a bottom shell connected together by a screw joint to hold a lampshade on the outside and a ceramic socket on the inside, an electric wire inserted through the upper shell and connected to the ceramic socket for the transmission of power supply to the ceramic socket, a wire holder mounted in a cylindrical top section of the upper shell and screwed up with a plastic screw cap to hold the electric wire, and two screws respectively threaded into two opposite screw holes on the cylindrical top section of the upper shell and stopped against the electric wire at two opposite sides to hold down the electric wire and to secure a hanger to the upper shell.

Abstract: A display arrangement comprises an image intensifier tube or some other device which provides a representation of a viewed scene at an input. A supertwist LCD and associated polarizers and are located between the input and a viewer. A ferroelectric liquid crystal shutter is located between the LCD and second polarizer and is controlled to produce symbology. By switching the shutter the polarization of the incident radiation is switched between two states differing by 90.degree.. This causes the LCD to operate in two states. In one state the viewed scene is transmitted through the LCD and in the other state it is absorbed and any symbology on the LCD is contrasted with a dark absorbing background. The shutter is switched sufficiently quickly that the viewer perceives the symbology overlaid on the viewed scene. In another arrangement, lens means having focusing properties which are dependent on the incident polarization is included to allow switching between different display modes.

Abstract: A self contained filter assembly is provided for a deep fat fryer which permits repeated filtering and reusing of the oil as a cooking media in the fryer. The filter includes a pan received in a drawer beneath the housing of the fryer which provides a filter media along the upper surface of a grid therein. Suction is applied by a suction pump mounted within the fryer which communicates between the surface of the filter pan below the grid and the fry pot itself. When the outlet valve on the fry pot is opened the oil flows downwardly by gravity into the filter pan and the pump applies suction to the surface of the pan to draw the oil through a filter media and return the filtered oil to the fry pot.

Abstract: An adjusting and positioning mechanism for nailing guns includes a safety rod with a threaded section, an adjusting block having an annular slot in one end thereof for accommodating a spring, a sleeve having a flange at one end thereof and a hole for receiving the safety rod, and a safety plate provided with shoulder portions at one end thereof. The flange of the sleeve is provided with a plurality of projections for fitting into corresponding grooves radially distributed in an end surface of the adjusting block to prevent the adjusting block from turning caused by the shock generated during the nail driving operation so as to ensure the stability of the safety rod.
