  • Patent number: 5386786
Abstract: A spacer comprises two interlocked beams, each folded from a sheet of corrugated paperboard so as to have a base panel and panels on each side of a plane intersecting the base panel approximately at a right angle. In each beam, the panels on each side include a side panel extending from the base panel, an outer panel extending inwardly from the side panel approximately to the intersecting plane, an inner panel extending from the inwardly extending outer panel approximately to the base panel, and panels bracing and reinforcing such beam. Each beam has a notch opening at the base panel and receiving a portion of the other beam. Two tongues including portions of the base panel and portions of the side panels project toward each other and project partly over the notch. Each beam has recesses extending along folds and receiving the projecting tongues of the other beam.

  • Patent number: 5385358
Abstract: A front gate for a shopping cart basket comprises two stanchions, each formed from a wire fixed to the front edge of a side panel of the basket, and a gate panel including horizontal wires defining upper hinge pintles and lower latch pintles. The wires forming the stanchions are bent to define vertical slots having front openings and permitting vertical movement of the gate panel between a lower position and an upper position when the hinge and latch pintles extend into the slots. The openings are disposed to permit the gate panel to swing on the hinge pintles and the latch pintles to exit the slots via the openings when the gate panel is raised from a lower position to an upper position whereupon the gate panel can be then dropped at the hinge pintles so as to open the front gate.

  • Patent number: 5383411
Abstract: This relates to a tray assembly that can serve the of a conventional tray, a bed tray, or a bathtub tray. To accomplish this, the tray is provided with legs. When it is to be used as a conventional tray, the legs are merely folded underneath the tray. If the tray is to be used as a bed tray, the legs are moved to a slightly overcenter position to support the tray in an elevated position. To use the tray as a bathtub tray, the legs are returned to the folded position beneath the tray and are designed to move horizontally outwardly to extend the length of the tray so that it can be located on the sides of the bathtub.

  • Patent number: 5383321
Abstract: Improvements are disclosed in a machine for applying carrier stock of resilient polymeric material to substantially identical containers, each having an upper rim of a given diameter and a side wall of a larger diameter. The carrier stock has container-receiving apertures in longitudinal rows. A conveyor conveys the containers in longitudinal rows. A wheel assembly comprising two wheels with paired jaws receives the stock, stretches the stock transversely, and moves the stock downwardly past the rims. The conveyor, the wheel assembly, and the jaws on one wheel are adjustable for applying the stock selectively in a rim-applied carrier position or in a side-applied carrier position. The conveyor is supported by a table and is adjustable vertically, via spacers insertable between the table and a base. The wheel assembly is adjustable longitudinally, via rollers on longitudinal rails. The jaws on one wheel are adjustable transversely, via screws.

  • Patent number: 5379310
Abstract: A multiple channel transmitter usable for wavelength division multiplying includes a grating and a curved reflector. A diode array generates a plurality of parallel, spaced apart radiant energy beams which are incident on the grating at an acute angle. The plurality of beams is deflected in part, into the reflector. Back reflected radiant energy is deflected, in part, to the members of tile array causing them to lase at a plurality of different frequencies. The zeroth order deflection of the forward propagating beams off of the grating forms a parallel output.

  • Patent number: 5376278
Abstract: The invention provides a method for separating metallic corrosion products from a water stream. A filter conditioned with a relatively small amount of ion exchange material exhibits comparatively low pressure differential while processing a water stream at commercially desirable flow rates and retention efficiencies. The method permits longer filter runs with a minimal application of material on the filtration surface. The invention additionally provides a filter for separating metallic corrosion products having a relatively broad range of particle sizes from a water stream.

  • Patent number: 5375818
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for controlling slag in a trough of a tilting furnace or in a free-standing tilting vessel. On a tilting furnace, the apparatus is mounted on a trough extending from the furnace tap hole and has a reservoir for receiving flow of molten metal and slag from the trough. The reservoir has a slag opening. One of its walls functions as a dam with a bottom opening. A passage extends from the bottom opening along a weir which terminates at an elevation above the bottom opening but below the slag opening. The molten metal flows over the weir and out of the device. The slag is retained in the reservoir and is discharged from the reservoir through the slag opening. In the free-standing tilting vessel, there is a reservoir, slag opening, dam portion, bottom opening, passage and weir, of a substantially similar design as that of the apparatus attached to a trough of a tilting furnace.
