Abstract: The method and apparatus consist of a robot body having at least two, but preferably six appendages. The appendages are organized into appendage groups of one to six appendages. The appendages are linked mechanically into groups of two or more and each group is actuated using a single drive actuator. A selective engagement mechanism is used to selectively engaged and disengage one or more appendages at a time in a way that allows for at least one appendage and at most all but one appendage per group to be engaged to a group's drive actuator. When the appendage is disengaged it is preferably locked in place to resist a reasonable force applied to them externally, such as the force equivalent to the weight of the robot.
Abstract: A system includes a global positioning system receiver to determine position of a railroad vehicle, a predetermined track map of possible coordinates of the vehicle, motion sensors providing a positive bias error to determine change in location of the vehicle, an acceleration sensor to determine acceleration of the vehicle, and a processor to vitally determine the location and the location uncertainty of the vehicle on the track map. The processor verifies one motion sensor with another motion sensor, determines a slip or slide condition of the vehicle from one of the motion sensors, determines speed and position of the vehicle from the acceleration sensor during the slip or slide condition, verifies the position of the vehicle from the global positioning system receiver based upon the track map, and corrects the positive bias error of the motion sensors using the position of the vehicle from the global positioning system receiver.

Abstract: A foldable shovel structured for scooping/pushing is provided. The disclosed foldable shovel includes two arcuate members that are hinged together at one end. In the folded configuration the two arcuate members are nested. Further, the coupling device includes a locking disk assembly structured to allow the arcuate members to be configured in different positions relative to each other. Thus, the foldable shovel may be optimally configured as either a scooping device or a pushing device.

Abstract: An arrangement of sheet-pile wall components includes two sheet-pile wall sections. The ends of the two sheet-pile wall sections are arranged. Their locks are hooked into two lock profiles of a connecting profile which is hooked via a third lock profile into the lock of an anchorage. The respective other ends of the sheet-pile wall sections are secured such that each of the two sheet-pile wall sections partially encloses a region. At least one of the lock profiles and the lock of the sheet-pile wall component of the anchorage in engagement therewith are configured in such a way that the lock profile of the connecting profile and the lock in engagement therewith are hooked one inside the other and grip around one another. As viewed in cross section, they bear on one another and are supported against one another by at least three points in at least one installed position.
Abstract: A CT scanner for scanning a subject is provided, the scanner comprising: a gantry capable of rotating about a scanned subject; at least two cone beam X-Ray sources displaced from each other mounted on said gantry; at least one 2D detector array mounted on said gantry, said detector is capable of receiving radiation emitted by said at least two X-Ray sources and attenuated by the subject to be scanned; a first image processor capable of generating and displaying CT images of a volume within the subject; a second image processor capable of generating projection X-Ray images of said volume, wherein the images are responsive to X-Ray separately emitted by each of said at least two cone beam X-Ray sources; and a third image processor capable of generating and displaying fluoroscopic images composed of said projection X-Ray images, wherein said fluoroscopic images are spatially registered to said CT images.
Abstract: Disclosed is a device and method for forming a curl in a closable container. A process of forming a pre-curl is used, which is followed by a second separate step of forming the completed curl. The two-step process provides for higher tolerances with respect to the shape of the curl that allows the curl to be used as a sealing surface for a recloseable metal bottle. A three-step process provides for even greater tolerances and reduces longitudinal forces by completing the curl using lateral forces.

Abstract: A portable device for detecting a radio frequency transmission of electromagnetic radiation includes a housing; a controller situated within the housing; memory communicatively connected to the controller; an antenna connected to the controller and configured to receive the radio frequency transmission; and an audio-generating component connected to the controller. The radio frequency transmission of the electromagnetic radiation is harmful to an electrical device and is from a transient electromagnetic device (TED) threat source. The controller is operative for sensing magnitude, duration, and/or repetition of the radio frequency transmission; identifying a class of the radio frequency transmission based on one of the magnitude, duration, and repetition associated with the radio frequency transmission; and causing the audio-generating component to output tones to provide aural discrimination of an identified class of the radio frequency transmission received by the portable device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for combining digital sidebands with an FM analog signal for IBOC transmission by a single antenna. Specifically, a high power filter combiner for combining an FM analog and a digital signal of the same channel, or frequency, is disclosed. The combiner has two inputs that respectively receive an FM analog and a digital signal to be transmitted in the same FM channel. The combiner has mild tuned filters interposed between the inputs and the output which are tuned to pass the FM analog signal while reflecting the digital signal such that the passed FM analog signal and the reflected digital signal combine as IBOC, i.e., an FM analog signal with digital sideband signals. The combined IBOC signal is provided at an output of the combiner, capable for transmission through a single antenna.
Abstract: The first of the two connecting profiles of a sheet pile wall assembly possesses a base attached to a sheet pile wall, a neck strip projecting from the base in a predetermined direction, and a head strip of larger cross section on the free end of the neck strip for engagement with a claw strip partially surrounding the head strip. The second of the two connecting profiles possesses a base attached to a second sheet pile wall and a claw strip to secure a head strip. The head strip of the first connecting profile is thus configured both to secure the claw strip of a sheet pile as a sheet pile wall and to secure the claw strip of the second connecting profile.
Abstract: A fire resistant wall includes a frame assembly utilizing tubular steel studs having at least one opening at the bottom and at the top, a stratum of fire resistant material disposed in the inter-stud space, and a trim assembly structured to protect the gaps between adjacent panels. The openings in the studs allow hot fluid within the studs to be exhausted in a remote location and cool fluid to be drawn in from another remote location. The stratum of fire resistant material disposed in the inter-stud space resists heat and flames contacting the lateral sides of the studs when the inner stratum of the firewall collapses, or when gaps appear between adjacent inner stratum panels. The trim assembly preferably includes a metal bar with a concave back surface disposed over the gap between adjacent panels and an intumescent caulk disposed at least partially within the gap. An intumescent caulk expands when exposed to heat and fills the gap between inner stratum panels.
