  • Patent number: 4382521
Abstract: A thermoplastic closure suitable for fitment to a threaded container neck is disclosed. The closure has a top wall with an annular sidewall depending therefrom. To provide a gas-tight seal between the closure and the container, there is provided a gas-tight sealing system above the closure thread. About the inside surface of the annular sidewall is an extended closure thread which, due to its extent, requires the user to make two turning motions to achieve removal of the closure from the container. By requiring two turning motions, sufficient time is provided for venting of any pressurized gas from the container to the atmosphere. This venting can be facilitated by the utilization of any conventional venting means.

  • Patent number: 4381183
Abstract: An apparatus for removing a waste portion from a blow molded article is disclosed. The apparatus removes the waste portion while the article is enclosed within the blow mold and features a gripping structure for gripping the waste portion and a power assembly associated with the gripping structure to move the gripping structure from the article, thereby pulling the waste portion from its point of attachment with the article. The gripping structure includes two opposed gripping means which are arcuately movable about their respective pivot points. Each pivot point is laterally displaced from the gripping structure and positioned along a line extending through the shortest distance from the pivot point to that portion of the gripping structure which is closest to the attachment of the waste portion to the article.

  • Patent number: 4379688
Abstract: An injection blow molding apparatus capable of achieving biaxial orientation and the produced article is disclosed. The apparatus features a transport table rotatable about and reciprocally movable along its center axis and at least an injection molding station and a blow molding station positioned adjacent to and around the transport table. There is at least one core rod mounted to the transport table, which core rod is moved from the injection molding station to the blow molding station by the table movements. The core rod coacts with the injection molding station to form an injection molded parison which is transported on the core rod to the blow molding station. At the blow molding station, a stretch pin mounted within the core rod is utilized to aid in the biaxial orientation of the final article blown at the blow mold station.

  • Patent number: 4369889
Abstract: A thermoplastic closure for fitment to a container for packaging product capable of producing internal container pressure, e.g., carbonated beverages, is disclosed. The closure comprises a top wall and an annular sidewall downwardly depending from the top wall. A closure thread on the inside surface of the sidewall is provided for cooperation with the container neck thread to achieve fitment of the closure to the container. A sealing system adjacent the top wall of the closure provides sealing of the closure to the container. Venting structure is provided on either the closure or the container or both for venting of pressurized gas from the container upon loss of the seal when the closure is rotated to remove it from the container. A heat-shrinkable tamper-indicating means is attached to the lowermost edge of the sidewall of the closure. Application of heat to the tamper-indicating means causes it to shrink towards the container and to a point of interference with a container flange.

  • Patent number: 4358057
Abstract: A two-piece nozzle, for fitment to hand actuated liquid pumps having a barrel portion and a bore therethrough for passage of liquid, is disclosed. The nozzle has an integrally formed nozzle cap which is mounted to the end portion of the barrel. Enclosed within the nozzle cap is an integrally formed sealing structure which is attached to the barrel of the pump. The sealing device provides a peripheral liquid-tight seal around the barrel between the nozzle cap and the barrel. It also provides a check valve which is movably positioned at the mouth of the bore to provide a liquid-tight bore seal. The check valve is biased to provide the liquid-tight bore seal which bias can be overcome by liquid pressure in the bore developed upon actuation of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4357296
Abstract: A process and multistation apparatus for injection blow molding a thermoplastic material to form a blow molded container having an integral injection molded handle is disclosed. The process and apparatus feature an injection mold which is closed to form an injection mold cavity with a contiguous injection mold handle cavity. A preform pin is inserted into the injection mold cavity through a preform carrier to form a preform recess into which hot thermoplastic is injected to form a hollow preform having a solid injection molded handle. After cooling the thermoplastic preform the preform pin is withdrawn and the molds are opened. The injection formed preform may be optionally heat treated prior to the preform being enclosed within a blow mold. The blow mold forms a cavity having the final desired container shape and a cavity into which the handle is enclosed.

  • Patent number: 4349116
Abstract: A thermoplastic cap having improved anti-backoff characteristics features a primary helical thread and a coaxial secondary thread. The cap is of a thermoplastic material having an elastic modulus in flexure within the range of from about 0.2.times.10.sup.5 to about 10.sup.6 pounds per square inch so that the secondary helical thread will flex in response to tightening torque.

  • Patent number: 4328887
Abstract: This invention relates to a multistation apparatus for unloading and unscrambling containers from a storage hopper. The apparatus has unloading means for continuously moving containers from the hopper onto a track structure. The track structure is powered so as to move the containers to the various apparatus stations. At the first station a gate is positioned over the track so that only one layer of unloaded containers is able to travel to other subsequent stations. A second station is provided with orientation plates adjacent the track so that containers which are on the track but which do not have their long axis in the direction of container travel will, upon contact with the orientation plates, be turned so that their long axis will lay in the direction of travel. A gate having an opened and closed position is provided at the third station.

  • Patent number: 4313569
Abstract: A three-piece nozzle is disclosed, for fitment to a hand actuated liquid pump having a barrel portion with a bore therethrough for passage of liquid. The nozzle features an integrally formed nozzle cap which fits around the end portion of the barrel. Enclosed within the nozzle cap is an integrally formed nozzle seal which forms a peripheral liquid-tight seal around the barrel between the nozzle cap and the barrel. Also provided is an integrally formed check valve which is movably positioned at the mouth of the bore and which is biased towards the mouth of the bore to form a liquid-tight bore seal. The bias is overcome, to open the liquid-tight bore seal, upon actuation of the pump which provides liquid pressure in the bore to act against the check valve.
