Patent number: 4198886Abstract: An apparatus for deflashing a plastic article is disclosed. In operation, an operator places the article having flash in a nest which positions the article so that the flash is in a horizontal plane. A powered shuttle assembly picks the article up from the nest and places it upon an anvil. The anvil has striking edges which follow the line of juncture between the article and the flash. A punch apparatus is lowered onto the article and strikes the flash at the line of juncture disjoining the flash from the article. The power shuttle then removes the article without the flash to a discharge point. Optionally, at the discharge point, there may be provided an orientation assembly wich orients the deflashed article so that it may be placed upon a conveyor belt which carries the article to a collection point.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1978Date of Patent: April 22, 1980Assignee: Ethyl Development CorporationInventors: Kenneth E. Bowers, Stephen E. Merritt, William G. Kinslow, Jr.

Patent number: 4197955Abstract: A tamper-proof package having a container and closure is disclosed. The container has a threaded neck and an outwardly projecting flange beneath the container threads. The cap has a top wall and a downwardly depending sidewall with the sidewall having inwardly projecting, helical threads for cooperation with the container threads. Provided as part of the cap is an annular cap flange which is disposed beneath the cap sidewall and adapted for connection to the container flange. Holding the annular cap flange to the cap body is achieved by the utilization of a plurality of elongated connecting ribs. These connecting ribs extend downward from the cap sidewall to the cap flange and have a direction of slope opposite the direction of the helix angle of the cap helical thread.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 1978Date of Patent: April 15, 1980Assignee: Ethyl Products CompanyInventor: Werner R. Patent number: 4173447Abstract: An apparatus for cooling the neck moil of a blown container so that such moil can be easily removed from the container is disclosed. The apparatus has a main body portion which is connected to the rod of a blow pin cylinder so that the apparatus can be moved towards and away from the blow mold. The main body portion also has attached thereto the blow pin, a cutting collar and a rotation collar. To feed blow air to the blow pin, the main body portion provides an air channel. An annular cylinder is formed in the body portion which cylinder accepts an annular piston which piston has a cooling plate connected thereto. The cooling plate is designed to contact and flatten the moil against the cold blow mold so that the moil is cooled. By feeding compressed air to the cylinder at its upper end, the cooling plate is moved to contact the moil and by feeding compressed air to the cylinder bottom the cooling plate is retracted from the moil.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 1978Date of Patent: November 6, 1979Assignee: Ethyl Development CorporationInventor: John R. Patent number: 4170230Abstract: A breathing apparatus is disclosed which fits into the mouth of a human between the teeth and cheeks. The apparatus functions to direct air from the front of the mouth to the back of the mouth and from there to the lungs. The apparatus features a ported curved tube which is open-ended and which has sufficient length to extend from the rear of the mouth on one side of the mouth along a path following the tooth line from one set of molars to the other and on to the rear of the mouth on that other side of the mouth. To facilitate flow of air from the front of the mouth to the rear, there is provided an intake opening located midway the tube so that said opening will be in a position at the front of the mouth. Exhaust openings are provided in conjunction with each open end of the apparatus for allowing passage of the air from the tube into the rear of the mouth and upper trachea.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1978Date of Patent: October 9, 1979Inventor: Byron G. Patent number: 4159578Abstract: A drying oven for drying materials which give off noxious fumes is disclosed. The drying oven comprises a drying chamber having a circular top wall and a downwardly depending sidewall which is closed off at its bottom by a bottom wall. The circular top wall has an exhaust port which is eccentric therewith. The sidewall has means for introducing dry gas into the drying chamber through an intake port which is located directly beneath the exhaust port. A doorway is also provided for allowing the introduction of the material to be dried into the exhaust chamber. There is no requirement that the doorway have elaborate pressure seals as the pressures within the chamber do not rise appreciably above ambient pressures due to the unique location of the exhaust port with reference to the location of the introduction of the dry air.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1977Date of Patent: July 3, 1979Inventor: Ronald D. Walton
