Abstract: A rapid cleaning and disinfecting method and composition for ophthalmic devices, e.g. contact lenses. The composition includes, on a weight basis, 10-50% of a C.sub.3-8 alkylene glycol, 2-30% of a lower alkanol, 2-15% of a surfactant, 0-2% pH adjusting agent, 0-5% tonicity builder, viscosity enhancing agent in an amount from 0 to the amount required to bring the solution viscosity to 100 cps, and the balance water. The method involves mechanically rubbing the ophthalmic device with the cleaning/disinfecting composition followed by rinsing the device.

Abstract: A package for storing hydrophilic contact lenses having improved access and ease of handling. The package includes a container defining a storage reservoir and having a peripheral outwardly-extending flange, a cover for affixing to the container to provide a liquid-impermeable seal, improved means for grasping/stabilizing the container and improved means for grasping the cover during opening of the package to retrieve the contact lens retained therein.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for rendering contact lenses hydrophilic, which comprises treating a contact lens with a compound of formula IAr--Z--Ar' (I)wherein Ar and Ar' are each independently of the other an aromatic radical that may be substituted by lower alkoxy and/or by lower alkyl and wherein one of the radicals Ar and Ar' or both radicals Ar and Ar' contain one or more substituents X selected independently of one another from a polar functional group Y, lower alkyl substituted by a polar functional group Y, and lower alkoxy substituted by a polar functional group Y, and wherein Z is a divalent group that separates Ar and Ar' from each other by from one to six atoms. The invention relates also to contact lenses treated according to the invention and to the use of compounds of formula I in the process according to the invention.

Abstract: Plant fungicidal compositions based on two active ingredients a) and b) show a synergistically increased effect in the case where component a) is 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-cyclopropyl-1-[(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butan-2-ol and component b) is either fenpropimorph or fenpropidin or a mixture of the two.

Abstract: Mixtures of certain triazole fungicides (component I) and 4-cyclopropyl-6-methyl-N-phenyl-2-pyrimidinamine (component II) have a synergistically increased activity against fungus infestation. Components I and II can also be applied to crops individually in immediate succession.

Abstract: A process for producing a contact lens and a contact lens comprising a crosslinked lipophilised cyclodextrin derivative, wherein each repeating cyclodextrin unit includes at least one polysiloxane group. The process for producing the contact lens includes the reaction of a cyclodextrin with a polysiloxane.

Abstract: A case for carrying and disinfecting contact lenses has a reservoir portion for holding a lens and solution, a plurality of projections extending from the reservoir floor upon which the lens may be positioned, and, a basket portion hingedly attached to the case and capable of being folded over the projections to hold the lens in place within the reservoir. A cap is provided for sealing the reservoir.

Abstract: Benzimidazolesulfonic acid derivatives of the formula I ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 is an unsaturated 5-membered heterocycle having not more than two hetero atoms N and/or S or is an unsaturated 6-membered heterocycle having not more than two N atoms, it being possible for each of the heterocycles to be substituted, and X is oxygen or sulfur, while R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4 and n are as defined herein, are valuable microbicides. They can be used in crop protection in the form of suitable compositions, for example for controlling fungal disease.

Abstract: Benzotriazolesulfonic acid derivatives of formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sub.3 =R.sub.4 X and R.sub.4 is an unsaturated 6-membered heterocycle having a maximum of 2 nitrogen atoms, it being possible for the heterocycle to be substituted, and X is oxygen or sulfur, while R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are as defined herein, are valuable microbicides. They can be used in plant protection in the form of suitable compositions, for example for controlling fungal diseases.

Abstract: The invention relates to contact lenses made from a copolymer comprising units of formula I ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are each independently of the other hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, organosilylalkyl or organosilyl, R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are each hydrogen or, taken together, are a divalent alkylene radical containing up to 8 carbon atoms, and A is a divalent substituted 1,2-ethylene radical which is derived from a copolymerisable vinyl monomer by virtue of the vinyl double bond being replaced with a single bond. The invention further relates to the copolymers themselves, to the use thereof for making contact lenses, and to a process for making contact lenses from such copolymers.
