Abstract: A method and system for acquisition, transmission, analysis, and analysis reporting of patient bioelectrical data, including electroencephalogram (EEG), computer-enhanced and expanded EEG (CEEG), dynamic brain mapping, evoked potentials (EP) and event related potential (ERP) data, with or without dynamic brain mapping, between a remote site where the physician and patient are located and a data collection and analysis center where the data can be analyzed by high-level computer analysis and/or expert technicians using an available communications channel. The EP, ERP and/or EEG data signals are gathered locally and transmitted using a local computer unit to control stimulus generation, data acquisition, and transmission functions. The high-level or computationally-intensive computer at the data collection and analysis center can also generate brain mapping analysis.

Abstract: This invention relates to an improved ball striking device, such as a golf club, hockey stick, or tennis racket, in which a greater striking power is imparted to the ball, puck or the like by inserting a connecting elastomeric member between the head or striking portion and the shaft portion of the device. The inherent resilient characteristics of the member allows an enhancement of the forward motion imparted to the ball.

Abstract: A new non-invasive, non-toxic, non-sedating method for treatment of vascular headaches (migraine and cluster), tension headache, atypical (chronic) facial pain, allergic rhinitis and cervical muscle spasm is presented. This method comprises the application of cold or frozen water or saline (0.degree.-4.degree. C.), cold metal, or ice to the area of tenderness associated with the plexus formed by the posterior and middle superior alveolar branches of the ipsilateral maxillary nerve, as well as to other branches of the trigeminal nerve. The cold or frozen water or saline can be applied indirectly when contained in small bags, tubes or packs made of plastic film, latex, silicone, or the like. Metal tubes can also be used which have been chilled by either running cold water or ice through their hollow interiors. Preferably plastic tubes encasing a column of ice, which ice can be extruded gradually by the patient or clinician by means of a plunger inserted into the tubes are used.

Abstract: A process for the preparation and fabrication of horseshoes whereby pure titanium or titanium alloys are processed with the exclusion of contaminating gases such as oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen. The titanium horseshoes have many advantages over the present state of art such as light weight, higher tensile strength, flexible, wearing resistance, abrasion resistance, hypoallergenic, workability, formability, friction-free, physiologically inert, and are easily formed and shaped into the desired configuration.

Abstract: A leg stretching apparatus for a user in a standing position has a base, a pair of upright bars, a leg rest member slidably engaged between the upright bars for movement between selected vertical positions for stretching posterior leg muscles of a user's leg rested thereon, and a linear drive mechanism fixed to the base provided with a drive motor and a linear drive member having an end coupled to the leg rest member. The linear drive member is operated to raise and lower the leg rest member in the vertical direction in a cycle of stretching, holding, and retracting as desired by the user.

Abstract: This application proposes a new topical treatment for the stimulation and induction of hair growth as well as for preventing further hair loss. These pharmacologic results would be achieved by stimulation of an inactive hair follicle or by reversing the dysfunction of the hair follicles or by improvement of the general physiologic state of the scalp skin. It would also stimulate the maturation and differentiation of those cells specifically involved in hair growth either directly or by stimulating the organelles and supporting structures associated with the hair follicle. The topical composition comprises vitamin D.sub.3 or various nitro-benzoic acids esters thereof, or the biologically active metabolites of vitamin D.sub.3 preferabiy affixed, during preparation to microparticulate charged non-metaliic microparticles and aloe. The final concentration of vitamin D.sub.3 in the composition is 0.5% or 500,000 IU by volume.

Abstract: A method is provided for studying capillary circulation utilizing intravital microscopy. The method comprises providing an intact living Salmonid or other Teleost alevin with yolk sac attached in a small water filled plastic bag or tube for immobilizing the fish fry. Thereafter there is injected into the yolk sac, a fluorescent dye complex and tracer FITC-DX (MW 150,000 daltons) and the absorption of the injected material into the systemic circulation of said living Salmonid or Teleost alevin tracked by means of fluorescent microscopy. The method can be used for carrying out toxicological pharmacological, physiological, embryological, oncological, pathological, etc. studies.

The dissolvable element is made of dissolvable polymer material and/or complex carbohydrate material which are food grade materials and have selected dissolving properties, such that it remains in substantially solid form before use, and dissolves due to human body temperatures and moisture during use to release the agent material in a desired timed release and dosage. As a contraceptive, the dissolvable element is preferably a film made of polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene oxide, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and/or carboxymethyl cellulose. The dissolvable element may be formed as a laminate of different film layers for compound release properties, or it may be ground into particles and incorporated in a tampon or suppository. The dissolvable element may be foamed as a means for increasing its dissolution rate.

Abstract: A new method of treatment of vascular headaches (migraine, cluster) as well as atypical pain is presented, comprising the application of bursts of low power laser light to the area of intra-oral tenderness associated with the above conditions. This zone of tenderness is in the area of the plexus formed by the posterior and middle superior alveolar branches of the ipsilateral maxillary nerve. The intra-oral tenderness associated with vascular headaches and facial pain disappears almost immediately, returning in approximately three hours to a few days. With repeated applications, a marked decrease/elimination of the intra-oral tenderness and similar elimination of vascular headache and facial pain frequency and intensity has been observed. The treatment comprises the brief application of bursts of low power laser light (non-cutting 2 mW) from a low-power helium-neon laser, having a maximum output of 5 mW, utilizing an application time of 20 to 30 seconds.

Abstract: A filter system is provided for mounting on an aquarium tank to treat the water in the aquarium. The filter system comprises a plurality of filter chambers, each containing a different filter media. The filter chambers serve to filter particulate matter from the aquarium water. A heater is further provided for controlling and maintaining the temperature of the aquarium water. The filter system further includes a dry chamber including a biological medium to support the growth of beneficial bacteria on the medium. A particularly preferred type of media is a plurality of plastic biospheres. The beneficial bacteria serve to biologically treat the aquarium and eliminate ammonia and nitrites from the water. At least one buffering chamber including a buffering medium is provided for buffering the aquarium water and maintaining a predetermined alkalinity level for the water. An air pump serves to pressurize portions of said filter system and aerate the aquarium water.

Abstract: A composition containing caffeine solubilized with para-amino benzoic acid is described. Preferably the caffeine is delivered in the form of an aqueous microdispersion including a non-metallic microparticulate carrier. Still more preferably, there is present in the aqueous microdispersion niacin. When administered orally, in small volumes, containing small doses of these agents, this composition has been demonstrated to have stimulant and antisoporific actions that result in elevated mood, decreased fatigue and increased capacity for work that is apparent almost immediately.

Abstract: Method and apparatus are provided for stretching tight muscles. The apparatus includes a base; a leg carriage pivotally mounted at one end to the base and adapted to receive and hold at least one leg of a user during use of the device; and a drive motor for causing the leg carriage to pivot at the one end relative to the base and cause the opposite end of the carriage to alternately raise and lower to thereby stretch the leg of the user.

Abstract: A bar code conversion device for automatically converting the decimal digits of a selected postal ZIP Code into the corresponding POSTNET bar code has a first set of digit wheels with faces for the decimal digits, a second set of bar code wheels with faces for the bar code segments corresponding to the decimal digits, and a set of linkages coupling each pair of associated digit and bar code wheels so that they can be rotated to selected digit positions of a ZIP Code in tandem. In the mechanical embodiment, the device is a hand stamp for stamping the bar code segment faces on an article. An electromechanical version has input digit wheels and an output printer. An electronic version has an input keypad and an output printer. The bar code is applied on an article for mailing, and is optically readable by the United States Postal Service's bar code readers.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for interleaving a carrier sheet with sliced food products, such as bacon strips, has a supply conveyor for continuously conveying products with spacings that may be random or non-uniform, a delivery section to a drop-off point, a detector for detecting the position of each product from the drop-off point, a sheet supply source, an indexing conveyor for moving the carrier sheet to receive products at the drop-off point in timed relation to arrival of the products, a counter for counting down the arrival of each product to the drop-off point, and a programmable controller for controlling the advance of the carrier sheet to the drop-off point and incrementally thereafter to receive successive products in timed relation thereon. The preferred embodiment draws and cuts each carrier sheet from a supply paper roll. The indexing conveyor has a perforated belt and holds the carrier sheet on the belt by vacuum pressure. Multiple interleaver lines can be set up in side to side relation.

Abstract: A gamma radiation stable gel consisting mainly of the complex of polyglyceryl methacrylate and at least one alkali metal or ammonium sulfite, bisulfite or metabisulfite.This gel is sterilizeable, bland water soluble, clear and colorless, washable, non-staining lubricating jelly. It is harmless to skin, delicate tissues and mucous membranes. It will not affect surgical instruments or rubber appliances. The gel of the invention may also be used as a drug delivery vehicle.A method of preparing the gel is also disclosed.
