  • Patent number: 5195466
Abstract: A method for the controlled addition of an additive to the fuel supply of a vehicle internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel engine with an exhaust particulate filter, in which the addition is performed as a function of an increase in the fuel supply. While the vehicle is in motion with the engine running, the fuel level is measured at predetermined short time intervals and, having been averaged over a predetermined number of these time intervals, is fed to a measured-value storage device in which the previous average value is compared with the new average value. When a differential value is detected in the average value comparison which exceeds a predetermined tolerance level, an addition of additive proportional to the increase in the level is triggered. After each comparison, the previous average value is erased and replaced by the new average value.

  • Patent number: 5196373
Abstract: The trench pattern of a dielectrically isolated island architecture is filled with doped polysilicon and used as an interconnect structure for circuit devices that are supported within the islands, thereby decreasing the amount of topside interconnect and reducing the potential for parasitics beneath tracks of surface metal. The trench pattern may serve as a voltage distribution network or provide crossunders beneath surface tracks. In addition, at least one of the islands may contain one or more auxiliary poly-filled trench regions to perform the crossunder function. Such an auxiliary trench region may be also provided in an island that contains a circuit device. Manufacture of the conductor-filled trench structure may be faciliated by depositing polysilicon over a dielectrically coated trench grid structure and then planarizing the polysilicon to the surface of the oxide dielectric. The exposed polysilicon is doped and then oxidized to seal the dopant, which forms a thin oxide layer on the poly.

  • Patent number: 5194867
Abstract: A flash analog-digital (A/D) coverter for producing an n-bit binary number whose value is related to an analog input voltage value includes a resistor ladder network having 2.sup.n-1 +1 nodes. Each node is coupled to a comparator stage to provide an intermediate reference voltage to the stage. Each stage has a first output at which is provided a first output voltage whose value depends on whether the input voltage exceeds the intermediate reference voltage, and a second output voltage whose value depends on whether the input voltage exceeds the intermediate reference voltage by a least significant bit voltage. A combinational logic network is coupled to the first outputs of the stages for decoding the n-1 most significant bits of the n-bit number based on the highest intermediate reference voltage which does not exceed the input voltage.

  • Patent number: 5194396
Abstract: There is disclosed a method of fabricating BiCMOS semiconductor devices. External metal lines are not used for connecting the NPN bipolar device and NMOS device, or NPN bipolar device and PMOS device. In this case, the collector and base of the bipolar device are respectively in common with the drain and source of the CMOS. The bipolar transistor is in common with the bulk region of the CMOS, so that the diffusion layer is commonly used in the NPN-PMOS pair, and the diffusion layers of the connecting part are connected together in the NPN-PMOS pair. A metal line is connected to the junction of the diffusion layers, thus decreasing the connecting area of the metal line. Hence, the integrability of the chip is increased, and the metal connection causes a reduction of the RC delay time, thus improving the operational speed.

  • Patent number: 5190791
Abstract: A process brings out a high contrast in natural grain of a naturally pale wood via infrared irradiation having a wavelength which is as long as possible. This infrared radiation can come from a conventional infrared emitter or, more preferably, from a carbon dioxide laser. Due to the contact-free heating near the surface which is effective in a stagnant ambient atmosphere, the new wood part of the grain is browned, while the harder old wood part remains essentially unbrowned. This causes the natural grain of the wood to stand out in contrast. Due to the contact-free and turbulence-free mode of operation of the heating, the grain pattern produced is uniform. Any scratches or chatter marks in the wood are simply covered over and remain invisible.
