  • Patent number: 5180646
Abstract: A nickel-cadmium storage battery with improved electrical properties is described in which one or more copolymers of vinyl pyrrolidone is/are added as expander to the active material with which the negative electrode is filled or to the electrolyte. The polymers have a mean molecular weight of 10,000 g/mol to 100,000 g/mol, with a vinyl pyrrolidone content of between 5 and 95 mol-%. The copolymers are added to the active material or to the electrolyte in an amount of 0.1 to 1.0% by weight, based on the active material. As a result of adding the copolymers, a malfunction-free operation of the storage battery is achieved, accompanied by a simultaneously equally as good degree of utilization of the cadmium active material compared with a storage battery which contains homopolymeric polyvinyl pyrrolidone.

  • Patent number: 5180183
Abstract: A releasable ski binding is provided with a boot holder which can be swivelled around a vertical shaft and is pushed into a normal ski boot holding position by a piston. At its end facing the boot holder, the piston is arranged to be slidable into the transverse direction with play, and at its other end, the piston is arranged to be slidable in a guide almost without play. Thus, swivel motions of the boot holder can take place largely without friction between the boot holder and the piston parts which rest against it. At the same time, the normal position is defined virtually without play.

  • Patent number: 5181124
Abstract: An arrangement for producing electrophotographic reproductions of an original image, including a source of digitized data that digitally represents an original image, a photocopier having determinable reproduction characteristics and which produces electrophotographic reproductions, and a printer. The printer is coupled to the source that receives the digitized data and produces an optical intermediate from the digitized data. This optical intermediate compensates for the determinable reproduction characteristics of the photocopier and of the scanner such that photocopying of the optical intermediate by the photocopier produces an accurate electrophotographic reproduction of the original image. The printer is provided with a composite device function table that relates target image pixel values used by the printer to measured color data of the output of the photocopier.

  • Patent number: 5180249
Abstract: A thermally stressed rotary connection of two coaxially aligned shafts includes two metallic coupling sleeves which are connected with the shafts by way of elastic intermediate layers. The two metallic sleeves engage one another. A ceramic centering sleeve is provided radially around the outside of the coupling sleeves and is shrunk onto the two shafts. The arrangement has the advantage of an effective connectability of different shafts such as ceramic or metal, in which case the two shafts may be connected with one another during the mounting. This allows undivided housings to be used.

  • Patent number: 5179759
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a motor vehicle windshield wiper device has a crank which is driven in a rotating manner and produces a pivoting movement of a windshield wiper via a drive rod. If the movement of the windshield wiper is obstructed by a snow wedge building up in the wiper socket, the drive mechanism provides for an obstruction evading movement of the drive rod in such a way that the crank can fully rotate unimpeded. In order to obtain a low loading of the drive rod and its joints in the event of obstruction of the windshield wiper and to obtain a uniform wiping zone in normal wiping operation, the novel drive mechanism for the drive rod is firmly coupled to the crank and a lost motion drive means is arranged on the wiper shaft.

  • Patent number: 5179526
Abstract: A method for correcting the rotational speeds of vehicle wheels determined by wheel sensors, a measurement of wheel speeds of the wheels of a vehicle being carried out, with specific driving conditions being that the vehicle is being neither accelerated nor braked and has no transverse acceleration. In a first part of the method, a matching of the measured wheel speeds is carried out under the specific driving conditions when the condition that the vehicle speed is below a first threshold value is satisfied. The matching of the measured wheel speeds is carried out by determining a matching factor for each of the two vehicle sides, so that, for example for the left vehicle side, matched wheel speeds are obtained from the measured wheel speeds.

  • Patent number: 5178436
Abstract: A draft deflector for a sliding roof is disclosed for a removable roof section or the like. The deflector exhibits an airfoil profile which extends in the transverse direction of the vehicle, is arranged adjacent to a front edge of the roof opening and can be moved from a sunk inoperative position to a swivelled-up operative position and vice versa. In the operative position, the airfoil profile extends at a negative setting angle and projects beyond an imaginary roof contour at least in sections in the upward direction. In order to reliably avoid, during the driving operation, when the roof is open, the occurrence of annoying low-frequency vibrations in the vehicle interior (sliding roof rumbling) and to essentially maintain the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle, it is provided that the airfoil profile, in the operative position, is arranged such that it is ensured that the air current occurring in the driving operation flows around the airfoil profile on both sides.

  • Patent number: 5177686
Abstract: A method of determining position errors of a space vehicle, which has been rotated from a known starting position into a desired new position, by means of star acquisition and star identification, using a star sensor as well as a star catalogue. Information in the catalog concerning the known positions of, and distances between, a selected group of stars expected to fall within visual field of the star sensor when the space vehicle is in the desired new position, is compared with the same information for selected stars sensed by the star sensor, until a match is found. The position error of the space vehicle is then determined by reference to the deviation between the known and sensed positions of the stars within the selected group.
