  • Patent number: 5174119
Abstract: A process for adjusting the boost pressure in an internal-combustion engine, supercharged by an exhaust-gas turbocharger with adjustable turbine diffuser, to a predetermined desired boost-pressure value dependent on the operating point. To improve the efficiency of the internal-combustion engine in the non-steady-state mode, especially after a positive load change out of low load and speed ranges, or, after a positive load change during the non-stead-state mode, below a predetermined threshold value for the exhaust-gas counterpressure upstream of the turbine the boost pressure is regulated according to a first characteristic corresponding to the instantaneous true deviation of the actual boost-pressure value from the desired boost-pressure value. After this threshold value has been exceeded, the exhaust-gas counterpressure is regulated predetermining hypothetical control deviations for the boost-pressure control circuit according to a special characteristic.

  • Patent number: 5175555
Abstract: A remote sensing apparatus for conducting (spaceborne) measurements of ocean geophysical parameters integrates a radar altimeter subsystem with a radiometer subsystem through the use of a shared antenna feed horn that permits each subsystem to have the same viewing aperture, so that each subsystem sees the same location on the ocean. The horn is a multiport, multifrequency horn having a throat and a tapered sidewall portion extending from the throat to the outer edge of the horn. A first sidewall port is coupled to the transmit/receive channel of the radar altimeter. A second sidewall port is coupled to a first receive channel of the radiometer, and a third sidewall port is coupled to a second receive channel of the radiometer. A throat port is coupled to a third receive channel of the radiometer.

  • Patent number: 5174600
Abstract: A motor vehicle is disclosed having a safety belt assigned to a seat and having an airbag system which is assigned to the same seat and has a pressure gas source which can be actuated by means of a deceleration sensor. In order to optimize protection for the seat user in the event of an accident, the invention proposes that at least two pressure gas sources which can be actuated independently of one another are provided, and in that in the event of an accident only one pressure gas source can be actuated by means of the deceleration sensor when the safety belt is being worn, while when the safety belt is not being worn all the pressure gas sources can be actuated so that it is only in this case that the maximum airbag internal pressure is available.

  • Patent number: 5175440
Abstract: A process and device for controlling a motor vehicle central locking system that has multiple station operation from the driver's door and from the trunk lid. A central locking of the door locks of the motor vehicle is avoided when mechanically securing the lock of the trunk lid against opening from the outside without a key in the unlocked state. This is done by switch-controlled suppression of the effect of the locking control signal normally generated when locking.

  • Patent number: 5173950
Abstract: In transferring color image data having a tone on a recording paper, a threshold matrix data for adjusting the tone is selected in accordance with the image data having a dot arrangement. The threshold conversion curve of the threshold matrix data selected is used to correct a variation in the tone of the image data due to mechanical and electrical variations in a color image transferring apparatus including variations in the rotation speed of a transferring drum, a power source voltage to be applied to a transferring head and a relative position between the transferring drum and the recording paper. This correction can achieve improved transference of the image data on the recording paper.

  • Patent number: 5173790
Abstract: An adaptive filter having a correlation weighting structue having a single Bragg cell, acting as a tapped delay line and having an input and an output, the Bragg cell intensity modulating a write laser beam for computing correlation values, and modulating a read laser field strength for multiplying the correlation values by delayed signal values. A photorefractive element is arranged such that substantial portions of diffracted and undiffracted light components from the single Bragg cell overlap within the photorefractive element. A write laser is intensity modulated by an error signal to produce an optical write signal that is received at the photorefractive element input and which writes correlation coefficients in the photorefractive element. A read laser produces a light signal, a portion of which is diffracted by the single Bragg cell, the portion of the light signal that is not diffracted by the single Bragg cell being partially diffracted by the photorefractive element.

  • Patent number: 5172602
Abstract: A method for the automatic shifting of a multi-path toothed-wheel gear change box between two gears which are formed in a first gearbox subunit temporarily engages a middle gear formed in a second, parallel gearbox subunit. It is simultaneously ensured, by control of the working pressures for actuating the power-shift clutches connecting the gearbox subunits to the input shaft, that the speed characteristic of the input shaft shifting is essentially steady without remaining at the middle gear speed value.

  • Patent number: 5170964
Abstract: The proposal is for a thrust nozzle for aircraft fitted with jet engines especially for lateral thrust vector control, in which the upstream ends of at least two flaps (8, 12) actuated via lever-like adjusters are arranged to pivot simultaneously at different angles of rotation about spindles running across the nozzle axis (20) and between walls (22, 23) running substantially parallel to the nozzle axis of a square nozzle housing in such a way that, with a permanently convergent nozzle contour, a narrowest cross-section is formed between the flaps (8, 12) at the outlet side; one end of each lever-like adjuster (28, 29) is to engage in downstream ends of the flaps, said adjusters being arranged at their movably mutually coupled other ends to travel in a guide path (30) which is curved so as to produce continuously different flap rotation angles; one or more narrowest cross-sections can either be kept continuously constant or change dependently upon the jet deflection angle.

  • Patent number: 5170756
Abstract: An arrangement for changing the relative rotating position of shafts in an internal-combustion engine has a camshaft, which can be rotated with respect to a shaft driving it, that has a phase converter with a piston which is acted upon hydraulically on both sides. The sprocket wheel driving the camshaft has an external toothing. A toothing, which is connected with the camshaft via a hollow shaft, is constructed as an internal toothing. Corresponding toothings of the piston engage in both toothings. In the camshaft, an axial recess is arranged in which an inserted pipe separates two spaces from one another. An on/off valve fed from the oil circulating system, in one position, via one of the spaces, supplies the piston with oil pressure so that it is axially shifted into a first end position and, in the process, turns the camshaft. In a second position, the piston is axially pushed back by the second space with oil pressure.

  • Patent number: RE34146
Abstract: A split flywheel for reducing the transmission of vibrations from the engine to the drive shaft at certain frequencies of the flywheel is provided. Included are two flywheel elements drivingly connected to one another wherein one of which is connected or can be connected in a driven manner to the engine and the other of which is connected or can be connected in a driven manner to the drive line. The resonant frequency of the split flywheel unit is well below the frequency of engine vibrations which occur during normal traveling, so that only slight amplitudes of vibration occur between the flywheel elements during normal travel operation. However, during start-up of the engine, the resonant frequency of the flywheel is passed through. The drive connection between the elements a slip clutch having a greater friction contact than the maximum torque of the engine, placed in series with a spring mounting and positioned between the two flywheel elements.
