Abstract: A method and computer program product models connections for a system having a plurality of components, having component terminals, and connections. The connections are located to selectively connect the components of the system to each other. The method and computer product models signal levels for nodes of the system as a variable wherein the nodes of the system are representative of the connections. Each potential component terminal connection of the connections that could potentially influence the signal level on each of the nodes is modeled, as a qualitative variable. This results in each node of the system being modeled with n+1 variables.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for detecting concentration of an analyte in a fluid. The method comprises detecting an optical property of a first region of two or more regions in a system, the first region located in a container having a reservoir for one or more modifiers of one or more optical properties of the first region. The movement of the one or more modifiers is responsive to changes in concentration of the analyte. A next step detects an optical property of a second region of the two or more regions in the system, the second region located in a container having a reservoir for one or more modifiers of one or more optical properties of the second region. The movement of the one or more modifiers is responsive to changes in concentration of a compound, where the compound is something other than the analyte.

Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a hinge (50) and a method of molding the hinge. The hinge comprises: a first part (52) and a second part (54) connected together during moulding to allow relative pivotal movement between the parts. The second part is molded over the first part after molding of the first part to form an interface (68) between the second part and the first part at which relative pivotal movement is allowed. After moulding of the second part the second part shrinks in a controlled manner to provide a predetermined frictional force at the interface between the first part and the second part in order to resist said relative pivotal movement.
Abstract: The present invention provides a composition comprising: i) at least one compound of formula (I): wherein R1 and R2 are independently selected from a group consisting of hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted C1-19 hydrocarbyl or a group of formula (II): wherein Q is a bond or an unsubstituted or substituted hydrocarbyl group; wherein R3 is selected from a group consisting of hydrogen and unsubstituted or substituted C1-18 hydrocarbyl; wherein the R1—C—R2 backbone is from 5 to 20 atoms in length; wherein each A and B is independently an unsubstituted or substituted unsaturated cyclic hydrocarbyl group; and wherein n is an integer from 0 to 10; and ii) a diluent or carrier; wherein the compound(s) of formula (I) is present in an amount sufficient to provide, at ?30° C., at least 1 wt % of iron, based on the weight of the composition.

Abstract: An auxiliary model railroad track connector for adjoining railroad track sections is provided. Each railroad track section including an array of ties and a pair of rails positioned in a spaced apart relationship on the array of ties. The auxiliary model railroad track connector includes a first end section and a second end section. The first and second end sections are coupled to opposing ties of the adjoining track sections. A resilient member is interposed between the first and second end sections. The resilient member has sufficient pulling force to hold and pull the adjoining track sections together. The auxiliary connector prevents longitudinal movement between the adjoining railroad tracks sections and maintains mechanical and electrical connections between the railroad track sections.
Abstract: A sensing and communication system includes a transceiver broadcasting an electromagnetic wave, a transponder supported on an associated structural member at a distance from the transceiver that receives the electromagnetic wave, and a sensor adjacent the transponder and in communication therewith. The sensor being operable to sense an input acting on the associated structural member and communicate a signal corresponding to the input to the transponder. The transponder is adapted to induce a modulation of the electromagnetic wave in relation to at least one of the sensor signal and the distance between the transceiver and the transponder. A method is also disclosed.

Abstract: In a lighting ballast there are typically several discrete components that combine to take an external AC signal and convert it to a DC signal, and back to an AC signal for powering a lamp. Several of these components can be housed on an application specific integrated circuit. By placing switching transistors (20, 22) their companion diodes (34, 36), and a rectifying circuit (52) on a monolithic integrated circuit (60), the ballast circuit as a whole is made more reliable and robust and can be manufactured at a lower cost than if discrete components had been used.

The foam insulation layer comprises a front face, a rear face, a tongue along a first end edge, a groove along a second end edge, and a slot defined in the rear face. The attachment member comprises an attachment rail and a member extending transversely from the attachment rail. The member of the attachment member is inserted into the slot of the foam insulation layer. When present, the veneer layer is attached to the front face of the foam insulation layer. When joined with other insulated siding panels, the interlocking occurs along the foam insulation layers to form an unbroken layer of insulation.
