  • Patent number: 8340428
Abstract: A word spotting system includes a semi-continuous hidden Markov model configured to model a handwritten word of interest. A writing segments extractor is configured to extract writing segments generally comprising images of handwritten character strings from a received document image. A word model adaptation processor is configured to adjust a shared pool of Gaussians of the semi-continuous hidden Markov model respective to the extracted writing segments. A modeler is configured to model extracted writing segments using the semi-continuous hidden Markov model with the adjusted shared pool of Gaussians to identify whether each modeled writing segment matches the handwritten word of interest.

  • Patent number: 8341740
Abstract: Malware detection systems are presented in which a list is constructed of enterprise hosts to or from which each given enterprise network host sends or receives packets within a current measurement period and statistics are accumulated based on two or more measurement period lists, with a count value being derived from the statistics to indicate the number of other hosts to or from which each monitored host sent or received packets, and one or more monitored hosts may be identified as suspected of being infected with slow and/or distributed scanning malware for which the count value exceeds a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 8339674
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for compensating for spatial non-uniformities in a printer by deriving a true spatial non-uniformity tone response curve (TRC) that characterizes the printer in terms of color output variation for each addressable pixel location in a spatial range. The “true average” tone response curve is determined for a color channel. A prediction of the true response as a function of the spatial location is derived by printing and scanning a specially designed halftone-independent target of binary patterns. The predicted tone response curve for each color channel and halftone is predicted using a binary printer model, wherein the “predicted tone response curve” provides a model based approximation of the actual response for each addressable pixel location in the spatial range. Also stored is an “average predicted tone response” by averaging the “predicted tone response curve” over the spatial range of the printer.

  • Patent number: 8340363
Abstract: The present application is a method and system of interpreting an image by finding a configuration of multiple variables which optimizes an objective function with a factorizable upper bound, by applying an iterative algorithm that relies on efficient dynamic ordering of candidate configurations, in a priority queue, in a descending order of an upper bound score. As an example, consider a constellation model for an object. It specifies the appearance models for individual parts of objects, as well as spatial relations among these parts. These are combined into a single function whose value represents the likeness of the object in an image. To find the configuration in which the object is present in the image, we maximize this function over all candidate configurations. The purpose of the iterative algorithm mentioned above is to find such optimal configurations efficiently.

  • Patent number: 8335387
Abstract: In accordance with the present disclosure, there is provided a method for performing streak compensation on compressed digital image data. The method comprises generating the compressed digital image data using a compression method employing a discrete cosine transform (DCT) and recovering a zero frequency component (DC coefficient) of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) for each of a plurality of compressed unit blocks of image data wherein each unit block includes N pixel columns. The method further comprises applying spatially varying compensating tone reproduction curves (TRC) to the DC coefficients of each of the plurality of unit blocks on a block-column basis wherein each block-column receives compensation from a given TRC, re-compressing the compensated image data, and subsequently decompressing all of the compensated units to produce decompressed compensated image data.

  • Patent number: 8335457
Abstract: Disclosed are image processing methods and systems to control the synchronization of two or more photoreceptor belts associated with an image processing system. According to one exemplary method, the phase error of a slave printing engine photoreceptor belt is controlled by modifying the speed of the slave printing engine photoreceptor belt by an increment which is a function of a predetermined image on image registration tolerance associated with the slave printing engine. Notable, the phase error is controlled while the slave printing engine develops an image on its respective photoreceptor belt.

  • Patent number: 8334012
Abstract: A first fluid, e.g., a clear solvent, is printed in a subpixel of a color filter prior to printing droplets of a second fluid such as colored liquid into the subpixel areas. This first fluid could have surface wetting properties such that it is hydrophilic to the substrate (glass) but hydrophobic to the boundary (black matrix). Therefore, the first fluid would flow over the entire subpixel area, but not onto the black matrix. The first fluid would then allow color fluid to disperse uniformly throughout the subpixel. This first fluid may also be used in additional embodiments to re-liquify a dry or partially dry color subpixel, so that color non-uniformities can be corrected.

  • Patent number: 8335381
Abstract: A wordspotting system and method are disclosed for processing candidate word images extracted from handwritten documents. In response to a user inputting a selected query string, such as a word to be searched in one or more of the handwritten documents, the system automatically generates at least one computer-generated image based on the query string in a selected font or fonts. A model is trained on the computer-generated image(s) and is thereafter used in the scoring the candidate handwritten word images. The candidate or candidates with the highest scores and/or documents containing them can be presented to the user, tagged, or otherwise processed differently from other candidate word images/documents.

  • Patent number: 8328480
Abstract: A winch for a cargo restraining strap includes a frame having a base and first and second parallel spaced sidewalls. The first and second sidewalls define respective first and second apertures. A protective wall extends from the base and is spaced from the first sidewall. The first sidewall and the protective wall cooperate to define a clevis structure including a channel. A pawl is movably secured to the frame, with an inner end thereof located in the clevis channel. A spool extends between the first and second sidewalls and is rotatably supported in the first and second apertures of the first and second sidewalls. A ratchet wheel is connected to the spool and is located adjacent the first sidewall. The ratchet wheel is selectively engaged by the pawl. The frame, spool and ratchet wheel can be defined from aluminum alloy. The frame can be extruded as a one-piece construction. The spool and ratchet wheel can be extruded as a one-piece construction.

  • Patent number: 8328264
Abstract: A cargo bin assembly of an automotive vehicle includes a recess that extends below a floor surface. The recess preferably has a stepped conformation where a first, shallow rim portion receives support members without the potential for interfering with items stored in a second, deep storage portion of the recess. Preferably, the deep storage portion is dimensioned to receive side panel lids from side storage assemblies. Removal of the generally planar side panel lids allows elongated items to be received in the cargo area, and the cargo recess allows the side panel lids to be stored. No openings are provided along the lower portion of the side storage cavity to prevent collection of dirt or debris.
