  • Patent number: 4474350
Abstract: A loading mechanism for loading water into a water storage tank of a water bomber aircraft is improved by separating the probe from the receiver conduit and by forming the probe with a cross-sectional area which is substantially less than the cross-sectional area of the receiver conduit. As a result of these improvements, the jet of water is discharged freely from the probe into the receiver conduit, thereby preventing the drag forces which are applied to the water passing through the receiver conduit being transmitted to the probe. A further improvement is in that the probe is positioned so that the input end is only partially exposed below the step with the result that an airspace is formed in the stream of water passing through the probe in use.

  • Patent number: 4452293
Abstract: Folding doors of the type commonly used as garage doors have to date had very unsatisfactory thermal insulation characteristics. The folding door of the present invention has improved thermal insulation characteristics derived from the use of a thermal insulating panel which comprises a body of plastics material having a series of closely adjacent passages extending transversely between opposite edges thereof. The passages are air filled and are isolated from one another over the full width of the insulating panel. Opposite ends of the passages are closed by closure means at opposite side edges of the panels so as to form a plurality of totally enclosed pockets extending horizontally of the door and thereby provide panels having high thermal insulation ratings.

  • Patent number: 4449509
Abstract: In a gaseous fuel carburetion system in which air and gaseous fuel are mixed in a mixer prior to induction into an internal combustion engine, and in which the rate of flow of the induction air is controlled by throttling the intake of the air/fuel mixture, and in which gaseous fuel is supplied to the system from a pressurized source, an improved method and apparatus for regulating the supply of gaseous fuel to the air/fuel mixer is provided. The method comprises the steps of; sensing at least one operating parameter of the engine which is a function of the induction air flow rate and generating a control signal which varies in response to changes in the induction air flow rate, controlling the rate of flow of the gaseous fuel from the source to the mixer by means of said control signal whereby the rate of flow of the gaseous fuel varies in response to the sensed changes in the parameters related to the air flow rate.
