  • Patent number: 4642975
Abstract: A carton loading machine has an endless carton conveyor which extends in a horizontal path which in plan view extends in a generally square configuration. A plurality of carton receptacles are mounted on the endless conveyor for movement therewith. Retainer bars are arranged opposite the open ends of the receptacles along at least three sides of the square configuration of the path and these retainer bars are mounted for simultaneous movement with respect to the receptacles so that the space between the retainer bar and the oppositely disposed wall of the receptacle can be adjusted to accommodate articles of different sizes. A further retainer bar is located below the open lower end of the receptacles and extends along at least two sides of the square configuration of the conveyor path. These second retainer bars are also simultaneously adjustable in height with respect to the receptacles so as to accommodate cartons of different length in the receptacles.

  • Patent number: 4639215
Abstract: The invention is a burner for combustible gases such as a propane/air burner. It is concerned with an improvement to the flame stabilizer in such a burner. The flame stabilizer is unique in that it forms the gas flow into two similar paths and, then, reunites the paths so that they interface and form a vortex sheet at their interface that, in turn, forms a vortex downstream of the stabilizer. The vortex sheet formation protects the stabilizer from the heat of the burned gases and provides very efficient stabilization for the flame.

  • Patent number: 4637607
Abstract: A drive unit for providing kinetic frictional resistance to an exercising apparatus which includes a sub-frame with a driving and driven element coupled to the sub-frame a motor coupled to the driving element for rotatably driving the latter. The driving and driven elements are coupled such that the driving and driven elements slip relative to one another. An adjustment is provided for adjusting the kinetic friction force between the driving and driven elements, while a stop is mounted on the sub-frame for blocking the driven element from movement beyond a start position. In operation the driving element is continuously driven by the motor throughout an exercise so that only kinetic friction has to be overcome by a user.

  • Patent number: 4635179
Abstract: A physically integrated assembly of tow magnetically independent transformers and two semiconductor rectifiers, arranged to minimized leakage and parasitic lead inductances, and the resultant voltage dropout during current commutation from one transformer-rectifier to the other. In a suitable circuit this assembly produces a nearly pure DC output voltage, which requires a minimum amount of filtering. It is also possible, when a choke input filter is required in the output, to integrate the filter choke into the same physical assembly, using part of the existing tranformer core material. The choke is magnetically independent of the transformers.

  • Patent number: 4631986
Abstract: A system for pulling a stud electrode from its retaining base in a pot smelter for the smelting of aluminum. An upper end of the stud is engaged with a spigot attached to a puller and the stud is twisted with the puller to loosen it. There is a pair of opposed longitudinal channels on the exterior of the stud, open at the end of the stud. A pair of opposed further longitudinal channels on the exterior of the stud are closed at the end of the stud and generally parallel to the first longitudinal channel. A pair of opposed circumferential channels join the longitudinal channels. A socket is mounted on the spigot to engage the stud. The socket has a generally cylindrical, hollow body to fit over the stud. Teeth in the socket are positioned to engage the longitudinal channels and to pass along the circumferential channels. The stud may be turned to free it from the base and lifted with the teeth engaging the longitudinal channel.

  • Patent number: 4611472
Abstract: A heat exchange apparatus including an external rotor. An internal stator is hermetically sealed within the rotor. An inertia device, attached to the stator, is able to resist movement of the stator so that a difference in speed between the stator and the rotor can be maintained on rotation of the rotor. A refrigerant is present. A rotary compressor for the refrigerant comprises a core attached to the stator. A wheel surrounds the stator. Vanes are mounted on the wheel and are able to move with the rotor and there is a cylinder, eccentric to the vanes and attached to the stator. Oil is able to form a liquid piston on rotation. Thus relative rotation of the vanes and the cylinder compresses refrigerant as the volume between the wheel and the liquid piston decreases. There is a condenser for the compressed refrigerant. An evaporator evaporates condensed refrigerant and evaporated refrigerant is returned to the compressor. The oil can be separated and its level required for the liquid piston can be maintained.

  • Patent number: 4604878
Abstract: An improvement in a door lock of the type having a rotatably mounted cam which has a detent which serves to displace a latching member and to engage the downstream abutment member of a pair of abutment members which are arranged upstream and downstream of the locking member with respect to the direction of rotation of the actuator cam. The abutment members are mounted on a lever arm which is connected to a locking bolt such that rotation of the actuator cam in one direction or the other will cause the detent to displace the locking member and thereafter engage the downstream abutment member to effect movement of the lever arm which in turn effects movement of the locking bolt between an open position and a closed position and to move the downstream abutment member clear of the path of the detent so as to permit the detent to gain access to the locking member when the direction of rotation of the actuator cam is reversed.

  • Patent number: 4597364
Abstract: In a diesel engine, the improvement of a fuel control system for use in providing a timed supply of gaseous fuel from a high pressure source to each air input. The control system comprises a flow control valve associated with each air input, the flow control valve being adapted to open to communicate with its associated air input and to close to interrupt communication with its associated air input. A fuel supply system is provided for supplying gaseous fuel under pressure to each flow control valve. A sensor is provided for determining when diesel fuel is being injected into each cylinder and generating a control signal which indicates when fuel injection occurs and communicates the control signal to the fuel control valve associated with the cylinder which is next in the firing order to that receiving diesel fuel such that the control signal is effective to open said flow control to admit gaseous fuel to the input air of said cylinder which is next in firing order.
