  • Patent number: 5530995
Abstract: A guide plate is positioned immediately downstream of the detaching rollers of the combing head in order to deflect the web upwardly towards a deflection plate which, in turn, deflects the web back towards a trailing section of the guide plate. The guide plate and deflection plate are electrically conductive and electrically connected to the machine frame of the combing machine in order to discharge the electrostatic charges in the web. A trailing edge of the guide plate may also be inclined to deliver the web to the delivery rollers. The distance between the nip clearance of the detaching rollers and the point at which the web contacts the inclined section of the guide plate is too short to permit jamming of a web due to the rigidity of the web.

  • Patent number: 5429610
Abstract: The dual chamber syringe is employed for collecting blood samples. The syringe includes a plunger which is connected to a first piston which, in turn, is connected via a string to a second piston. A passageway is formed in the wall of the syringe barrel to communicate the duct at the forward end of the barrel with the chamber between the two pistons. Thus, upon withdrawal of the plunger from a barrel, fluid flows into the chamber created between the two pistons. Subsequent movement of the two pistons in unison causes a whole blood sample to be drawn into the foremost chamber within the barrel. The syringe can be subsequently connected with a vacutainer via a needle assembly so as to discharge the whole blood sample into the vacutainer for subsequent testing procedures. The discard fluid can be separately dispensed into another container.

  • Patent number: 5417938
Abstract: The device for carrying out catalyzed reactions includes a plurality of layers, each of which provides an interspace which is filled with a catalyst material. The walls of each layer are impermeable to the catalyst material while being permeable to the reactants flowing in flow channels between the parallel layers. In one embodiment, separate guide elements may be used to space the layers apart and to define the flow channels. The catalyst material may be selected from solid particles, liquids and gases.

  • Patent number: 5400732
Abstract: A pump aggregate is mounted within a bell shape housing member along with a hoisting winch which permits the lowering of the pump aggregate into a hatch of a cargo tank when a hatch cover has been removed. The housing member allows the passage of the pump aggregate into the hatch while maintaining the pressurized conditions of the hatch. A hose stump is disposed in folded manner within the housing member to unfold during lowering of the pump aggregate. The hose stump connects to a coupling on the top of the housing member. A pair of flexible hydraulic conduits which are connected to the pump aggregate also uncoil during lowering of the pump aggregate and, in turn, are connected to coupling arrangements on the housing member. A seal is provided about the open bottom of the housing member to seal against a tank to maintain the pressurized conditions.

  • Patent number: 5400582
Abstract: In a textile machine with a drafting arrangement and textile spindles, the spindles are driven by an electric main drive. The drafting arrangement cylinders are coupled so that their speed is a given proportion of the speed of the main drive. The coupling is via a position-controlled brushless D.C. motor with electronic commutation for driving the drafting arrangement. An additional flywheel mass on the drafting arrangement drive is dimensioned so that the slowing-down time of the drafting arrangement is of the same order as the slowing-down time of the main drive, resulting in controlled slowing-down conditions if the voltage suddenly fails. The drafting arrangement motor can be made much smaller than hitherto. Also, the starting and slowing-down conditions can be accurately and sensitively controlled, thus reducing the risk of thread breakages.

  • Patent number: 5391929
Abstract: The method of power transmission and distribution aims to mitigate the magnetic fields generated at a right of way and at distances which extend beyond the right of way. The transmission and distribution lines use various line parameters including the relative locations of the conductors around the axis of symmetry of the right of way, the current magnitudes and the phase angles of the currents flowing in the conductors in optimum asymmetric fashion. The use of magnetic field mitigation bodies placed adjacent to the current bearing conductors increases the scope and the effectiveness of the mitigation. A mitigation technique is also provided for mitigating the magnetic field generated by current bearing sources used in power distribution, with unknown or difficult to characterize current distributions, such as transformers.

  • Patent number: 5379500
Abstract: The invention relates to the production of untwisted yarns from at least two fibril bundles. It gives intermediate method steps, which are so introduced between the main steps of the conventional production method for such yarns (spinning, stretching and texturing), that the reciprocal position of the individual fibril bundles resulting from the arrangement of the spinnerets can be retained through the process. A non-positively acting false twister for each individual fibril bundle, whose strength or thickness can be varied, also makes it possible to reproducibly vary the mixing of the fibrils of the individual bundles in their contact zones.

  • Patent number: 5378377
Abstract: Excess liquid is removed from a fast-moving thread, in that the latter is deflected, so that the liquid is hurled off, the hurled off liquid is removed from the thread, in that the thread is passed through a closed chamber, where a vacuum is produced in order to facilitate liquid evaporation and in that the thread is led through a narrow gap, so that the layer directly surrounding the thread and travelling therewith is peeled off. The combination of these drying effects constitutes one process stage. Advantageously, this process stage is performed several times in direct succession, so that in the case of a thread-protecting, small deflection angle a good thread drying can be achieved. The process is performed by an apparatus comprising several chambers (K.1-3) connected in series in the thread movement direction, the thread being deflected at the inlet and/or outlet with respect to each chamber by a deflection element (U.1-4) and passes through a narrow gap (S.1-). The chamber walls (20.

  • Patent number: 5368801
Abstract: The method of mounting a disc-shaped septum within a connector includes a step of deforming a thin annular wall at the end of the connector into a curled over shape so as to secure the septum in place. Curling over of these wall occurs under heat energy which is applied only to the end of the connector without heating of the main body of the connector. Deformation of the thin end wall of the connector causes an outward bulging of a peripheral edge of the connector as well as bulging of the opposite ends of the connector into a domed shape.

  • Patent number: 5367746
Abstract: One or both of the lap rollers on which a lap roll is mounted for unwinding purposes is driven with an increasing speed during the winding-off interval so as to maintain the thickness of the lap layer constant. This, in turn, maintains the count of the sliver to be formed in the comber at a constant number. The increase in the lap roller drive can be made dependent upon the length of the lap layer which is unwound from the roll, on the mass of the lap layer delivered to the comber or on the mass of a sliver produced from the combed lap as measured at a point downstream of the comber. The speed may be increased in a stepwise manner or continuously.

  • Patent number: 5365115
Abstract: A method and apparatus for mitigation of magnetic fields from magnetic field sources operating at low frequencies, typically less than 100 KHZ, are provided. The method is based on placing magnetic bodies of proper shape, size and physical properties close to the source of the magnetic field to cancel or reduce the magnetic field at desired sites, located away from the source. The method is applicable to mitigating all sources of magnetic fields including those generated by electric power lines, transformers, various tools, electronic devices and appliances. The apparatus, an application of the method to electric power transmission lines, consists of body of magnetic material disposed adjacent to at least one conductor of a multi-line electric power transmission system.
