    Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting disturbance in a protected area or perimeter by scanning the area or perimeter with a rotating beam of radiating energy, such as light, infrared, ultraviolet and the like, and counting the number of pulses at the output of a detector or sensor upon impingement on the detector or sensor of the beam reflected by each one of a plurality of reflectors disposed in the protected area or perimeter. Upon turning on the apparatus, a first pulse count corresponding to each complete revolution of the beam is stored as a pulse reference number for a "normal" state in the protected area or perimeter. In operation, the number of pulses for each revolution of the beam is continuously counted and compared to the stored reference number and an alarm is triggered as soon as the stored reference number and the counted number are unequal.

A pressure transducer measures the pressure in the intake manifold while a control system generates a VALVE OPEN signal in synchronism with the magneto signal and having a duration proportional to the pressure in the intake manifold to open the fuel injectors and provide fuel to the engine. A special engine starting fuel schedule, hot enrichment schedule, cold enrichment schedule and auto-lean fuel schedule are also generated by the control system.

    Abstract: A device permits fastening a tool (preferably an EDM tool) to a machining head in at least two different orientations. The tool is mounted on a tool holder, and a pair of portions alternately fix the holder to the head in two different orientations, for example, one in which the tool is positioned for machining operations, and another in which it is positioned for touching up. In a first embodiment the portions are formed as two studs provided on the holder each engageable with the machining head. The studs are positioned with respect to the tool so that engagement with the machining head presents the tool in the two different orientations. In a second embodiment one of the portions is formed on a first tool holder which carries the tool thereon, while the other portion is formed on a second holder mountable to the machining head, the first holder being being mountable either to the machining head directly or to the second holder.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a panel, such as an automotive panel, using the resin transfer molding (RTM) process. The method includes the steps of preforming a first mat of glass fibers into a shape approximating one side of the panel and, similarly, preforming a second mat of glass fibers into a shape approximating a second side of the panel. A urethane core is sandwiched in between the preformed mats to thereby form a premolded assembly. This premolded assembly is placed into a mold and a settable resin is injected into the mold to form the panel.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method of the manufacture of dimensionally stable, liquid-impermeable, flexible press bands, particularly for wet presses of paper making machines. With known manufacturing methods for such press bands, the provision of a structured surface for liquid discharge on the outer surface of the press band, which faces the fibrous web or the felts, is achieved either by reversing the press band after removal from the casting mould so that the structured surface becomes the outer surface of the band while the smooth surface forms the inside thereof, or by grinding drainage ducts into the outer surface of the press band. But especially in the case of small band diameters, reversing of such cast press bands causes serious problems and entails considerable expenditure, wherein the risk of damage to the band cannot be excluded and grinding of the drainage ducts is just as expensive.

    Abstract: A cover for a wooden deck structure which protects people walking on the deck structure from splinters. In one embodiment, the cover is in the form of a thin walled, U-shaped channel member which fits over one board of the deck structure. In doing so, the central section of the channel member overlies the top of the board while the sides of the channel member extend downwardly along the sides of the boards. The channel member is made of a synthetic extrudable material, such as vinyl, and is attached to the board by gluing.In a second embodiment, the cover is made from a plurality of elongated, flat strips haivng a tongue on one side and a matching groove on its other side. The strips are positioned on top of the deck strucuture so that the tongue and grooves of adjacent strips interlock and are attached to the deck structure by glue. In addition, the longitudinal axes of the strips can be transverse with respect to the axes of the boards in the deck structure.

    Abstract: A mold blank for manufacturing eyeglass lenses containing a flat top bifocal segment. A ceramic platform is first constructed containing an optical surface having a recess corresponding to the flat top bifocal segment. A concave-convex glass mold blank polished on both sides is placed on the optical surface and across the recess of the platform and the mold blank together with the platform is placed in a furnace. The furnace is then heated to a preselected temperature at which the mold blank thermally deforms and sags against the optical surface and into the recess. Upon cooling the mold blank can be used to mold plastic eyeglass lenses. A method for making the mold blank is also disclosed.
