  • Patent number: 4184670
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding sheets one by one from the bottom of a stack of sheets comprising first and second spaced supports cooperatively supporting the bottom of a stack of sheets, the first support comprising a rotatable unit and the second support comprising a flat abutment member. The rotatable unit includes a plurality of juxtaposed rollers at least one of which is intermittently rotated to feed the lowermost sheet in the stack to a conveyor. The flat abutment member is adjustably supported for displacement to a selected predetermined stationary position. The rotatable roller is coupled to a suction device so that suction force is applied to the lowermost sheet in the stack in the course of intermittent rotation and the position of the roller with the conveyor belt is such that the suction will be substantially reduced when the sheet has been received by the conveyor belt.

  • Patent number: 4183464
Abstract: Hash-coding storage arrangements are known which are capable of storing data values efficiently and permitting rapid testing of whether a given data value is stored. However, such arrangements may produce erroneous outputs. The invention reduces or eliminates these erroneous outputs by providing a further store (which may itself be a hash-coding storage arrangement) which identifies the erroneous outputs, and is used to suppress them.

  • Patent number: 4182512
Abstract: A racket for playing tennis or similar ball games has a frame or head portion mounting the web of strings and of generally oval or elliptical configuration and a straight handle co-axial with the major axis of the frame. The frame includes at the lengthwise sides of the frame, that is, adjacent to the minor axis of the frame, spaces within the frame material or in containers attached to said frame sides a plurality of granules such as pellets which are freely movable within said spaces if and when the racket is swung to hit a ball, thereby damping vibrations as are generated when the ball impacts upon the web mounted on the frame. Similar spaces can also be provided in the yoke of the racket and partly filled with pellets also causing damping the vibrations generated by the impact of the ball.

  • Patent number: 4181815
Abstract: An electrical cable of the self-floating type for use in marine environments is provided with elements for taking up mechanical tractive forces. The electrical conductors of the cable are surrounded by an inner friction layer with a low friction coefficient. Around this layer a force equalizing layer of metallic material is provided and this layer is surrounded by a tube of plastic material showing a number of circumferentially situated grooves. An outer friction layer of the same material as the inner friction layer surrounds the hollow strands and the whole system together with the elements for taking up the tractive forces is embedded by a cable mantle of rubber-like plastic material.

  • Patent number: 4178784
Abstract: In a method of continuously plating wire electrolytically, acid crystal and liquid residues originating from the plating bath form on the wire. In order to remove these residues from the surface of the wire, the method of the invention comprises mechanically treating the surface of the wire while supplying a liquid to the wire prior to the mechanical treatment. The wire undergoes treating in the presence of the supplied liquid and the composition of the liquid and residues in such that the residues are not dissolved or emulgated in the liquid. The liquid with the residues can be collected and the residues separated from the liquid so that the liquid can be recycled back to the stage of mechanical treatment of the wire in a closed circuit.

  • Patent number: 4175648
Abstract: A braking device for a bicycle comprising brake shoes positioned on opposite sides of a wheel of the bicycle for being brought into operative contact with the wheel to effect braking of the bicycle under the action of a movable brake handle and in opposition to a restoring spring. A hydraulically actuable pressure member is operatively coupled to each brake shoe to displace the same to its braking position and a hydraulic cylinder is operatively coupled to the brake handle for being actuated thereby. A hydraulic circuit connects the hydraulic cylinder and the hydraulically actuable pressure members for pressurizing the latter when the hydraulic cylinder is actuated by the brake handle.

  • Patent number: 4167652
Abstract: An integrated switching and transmission of PCM words associated with channels and transferred on links utilizing the time-time switching principle is achieved by connecting an interhighway, i.e., a common time multiplex connection on which the PCM words are transferred in bus time slots, to inward and outward traffic memory arrangements each associated with one of the links. The memories store the words and in addition not only store, for each established connection channel, index numbers indicating the actual incoming and outgoing channel, but also a time index number indicating which bus time slot during an index read out phase is used for the connection. The phases are introduced in order to avoid the necessity of using memory access times corresponding to the bus time slots. Each phase comprises a number of bus time slots and each frame of the PCM words includes at least so many such phases as there are channels on each link.

  • Patent number: 4167340
Abstract: A dough mixing and kneading device which comprises a horizontally disposed container including an elongate cylindrical space closed by walls at the ends of the container and three blades within the space extending lengthwise therein. The blades are secured to and driven by drive shafts protruding through the end walls of the container. The blades when driven rotate along circular paths radially spaced from each other, one of the blades rotating closely adjacent to the inside wall surface of the container thereby acting as a scraper. A lengthwise opening at the top of the container is provided for loading the container with dough and discharging the dough after mixing and kneading by rotating the container about its center axis. A fixedly mounted cover closes the opening when the opening is turned into its upwardly facing position.

  • Patent number: 4165533
Abstract: A central control unit is connected via a common bus system to a number of function units, each of which being furnished with redundant address decoders in order to ensure reliable selection of the function units. If, in response to an address which is sent out by the control unit, a signal is emitted by only one of the two address decoders of a function unit, a recording is made in a memory device corresponding to that decoder to indicate an erroneous condition in one of the address decoders of the addressed function unit. If, on the other hand, signals are emitted by both address decoders a check signal is returned to the control unit, the absence of the check signal indicating that either one of the decoders belonging to the addressed function unit is faulty. Error recordings are read out from the respective memory device by subsequent addressing of the units, the read out from the memory device belonging to the one address decoder being effected by the signal emitted by the other decoder and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4163229
Abstract: In a display device having a record medium which is parallel-line raster scanned by a beam which is intensity modulated to form matrices of dots representing symbols, apparatus is provided to generate composite symbols such as characters with diacritical marks. The apparatus includes a source of groups of coded combinations of bits representing symbols with each group having a first part representing the character and a second part the diacritical mark. A first addressable memory stores the binary signals representing the dots of the character while a second addressable memory stores the binary signals representing the dots of the diacritical marks. Thus, each symbol group addresses two memories which then feed these binary signals to the beam which is intensity modulated to form a matrix of dots on the record medium. In addition provision is made to vertically displace the characters to perform subscripting and superscripting.

  • Patent number: 4161245
Abstract: A process and apparatus for feeding elongated articles having enlarged heads at one end in oriented positions comprising depositing a plurality of elongated articles into a corresponding plurality of bores in a turnable member in random orientation in which the elongated articles may be introduced in some bores head-first and in other bores tail-first, and passing the articles through the bores in which they are introduced tail-first while holding the articles in the bores in which they are introduced head-first. The turnable member is turned 180.degree. while continuing to hold the articles introduced head-first into the bores so that the articles are now inverted. The now inverted articles are then released for passage through the bores. In this way, all articles are fed from the turnable member tail-first.
