  • Patent number: 6304912
Abstract: A communication apparatus contains a first table having entries each storing a data-link-layer path to a second communication apparatus, and a second table storing a pointer to the entry of the first table, storing the data-link-layer path to the second communication apparatus, corresponding to a network-layer address of one of the at least one other communication apparatus. In addition, a process for determining layer-2 reachability between first and second communication apparatuses, identifies first and second layer-2-connected communication networks to which first and second interfaces of first and second routers are connected, where, on a layer-3 communication path between the first and second communication apparatuses, the first router is located nearest the first communication apparatus and the second router is located nearest the second communication apparatus. When first and second layer-2-connected communication networks are identical, the layer-2 reachability is determined.

  • Patent number: 6300841
Abstract: In an atomic oscillator, a high-frequency converting circuit converts the output of a standard oscillator into a high frequency signal such that the frequency of the high frequency signal multiplied by a low natural number equals an atomic resonant frequency signal. The high frequency signal is then multiplied by a low natural number in an active, low-natural-number multiplier circuit to convert the output frequency of the standard oscillator into a resonant frequency to be input to the atomic oscillator. The result is that, without using a passive, high-natural-number multiplier circuit, such as a varactor diode, which is expensive, it is possible to convert the output frequency of the standard oscillator into a resonant frequency signal of a rubidium atom, thus downsizing the circuits of the atomic oscillator and reducing the term and cost of manufacture.

  • Patent number: 6298036
Abstract: A transmission system for transmitting a data signal with an analog passband signal through a analog transmission line. The data signal is transformed to a signal representing a descrete data signal point in a vector signal space. The analog passband signal is transformed to a base band signal, and the base band signal is superimposed on the signal representing a descrete data signal point. A signal representing the superimposed data signal point is modulated and transmitted through the analog transmission line. In a receiver, the data signal point is decided from the signal representing the superimposed data signal point, and the superimposed bass band signal is extracted by subtracting the decided result from the signal representing the superimposed data signal point. The base band signal is transformed to the analog passband signal. A portion of information carried by the analog passband signal may be converted to a digital signal, and the digital signal is multiplexed with the data signal.

  • Patent number: 6297846
Abstract: A display control system for a videoconference terminal capable of displaying proper images of participants. A video camera captures wide-angle source pictures including the images of participants. The source pictures are sent to a participant position detector and image clipping unit. The participant position detector detects a participant position by examining the source pictures. Depending on the on-screen movement observed in the participant position detected by the participant position detector, the image clipping unit determines an appropriate clipping window. It clips the desired image out of the source pictures as defined by the clipping window. A screen adjustment unit adjusts the image size so that it will fit to the actual screen size.

  • Patent number: 6292267
Abstract: A high-speed network printer apparatus which can be used in common by clients having different communication protocols and which can sort out printing jobs into the order of clients. Printing information is supplied from a client which may be a personal computer or a work station through a connector of the printer apparatus. A LAN interface driver receives the printing information and identifies a communication protocol by which the printing information is transferred. A communication protocol controller receives printing information in accordance with a predetermined protocol. A spooling controller, which is coupled to a storage unit which stores the received printing information, creates a queue for printing jobs. A printer controller reads out from the storage unit the printing information corresponding to a printing job of the highest priority which is designated by the queue, and forms a dot image on the basis of the printing information. A printing mechanism prints the image on paper.

  • Patent number: 6288809
Abstract: In an optical subscriber network system which connects plural optical network units to an optical service unit using passive optical elements through an optical transmission line, the optical transmission line is duplexed with a lower cost. The optical service unit and the optical network units each have plural transmission-reception portions the wavelengths of which are different from each other, and the inputs and outputs of the plural transmission-reception portions are multiplexed with the wavelengths (WDM) into a single optical transmission line to form a pseudo redundant communication path between the optical service unit and the optical network units. The communication which uses a certain wavelength between the optical service unit and the optical network units is active, and the communication which uses another wavelength is a standby. When the active communication has a fault, a switchover operation to the standby communication is performed.

  • Patent number: 6289510
Abstract: There is provided an online program-updating system which is capable of updating contents of a program without interrupting any services provided by the system. A management information storage section stores management information including operative status flags each indicative of the operative status of a corresponding program module and information of a version number associated with the corresponding program module. A program execution section updates operative status flags based on the operative statuses of the program modules. A version number check section makes a comparison between the version number of each program module of a revised program and that of each program module of the existing program in response to a download request, and determines that an update of the program is required, if the version number of the program module of the revised program is newer.
