  • Patent number: 4397454
Abstract: A device for holding a slider in position during threading onto a slide fastener chain includes a housing having a support surface for supporting thereon a slider body upside down, and a slit receptive of a pull tab hanging from the slider body. A lever has a pair of juxtaposed first and second arms disposed one on each side of the slit, there being on the first arm a locking projection movable into and out of the slit. The lever is pivotable in the housing between a slider-holding position and a slider-release position. The second arm extends beyond the first arm to such an extent that as the slider is placed on the support surface, the second arm is pressed downwardly by a yoke of the slider to cause the lever to be pivotally moved to the slider-holding position.

  • Patent number: 4398302
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, a radiation detector for reception of the radiation emerging from the radiography subject delivers electric output signals corresponding to the received radiation profile, a scanner device rotates the radiographic unit about an axis which passes through the focus of the x-ray tube and approximately through the detector center, and a measured value processing and display unit determines and reproduces the x-ray shadow image corresponding to the scanning movement of the radiographic unit (1, 4). The processing and display unit is designed in the manner of a radar display apparatus in which a number of concentric image point circles are recorded, each of which, (for the case of a radiation detector consisting of a series of individual detectors), is locally associated with a specific individual detector and is modulated in its intensity corresponding to the output signals of the associated individual detector.

  • Patent number: 4398285
Abstract: A time-division multiplex switching network is constructed of units designed as time stages which operate blocking-free and which are multiply divided. A plurality of units of identical structure to a plurality of switching units of a switching network portion is assigned to each switching network portion, the plurality of units being operated as multiplexers at which the outgoing time-division multiplex lines are connected and whose normally non-utilized outputs can be connected by way of switches to other time-division multiplex lines extending from other switching network portions. Upon failure of the latter switching network portions, the switches are closed for rerouting the traffic through the system.

  • Patent number: 4397325
Abstract: Nail files and other abrasive articles have a structural base, such as a steel strip, coated with a slurry of a resin, such as an epoxide, and abrasive particles or grits, such as aluminum oxide, granules with sharp peaks and corners, of selected size and covered with one or more layers of electroplated metal, such as copper, nickel and chromium, forming a sheath surrounding the coated base and firmly anchoring the particles around the base. The electroplated metal has relatively thick valley portions covering the bases of the particles but only has relatively thin films over the peaks of the particles. In use, the thin coatings over the peaks of the particles are broken off, exposing the tip ends of the abrasive particles for effective abrasion of surfaces, such as fingernails, rubbed thereover.

  • Patent number: 4398204
Abstract: A circuit for operating recording nozzles in ink mosaic recorders, each nozzle having an associated ink channel cylindrically surrounded by a piezoelectric transducer having a diameter which expands upon the application of a voltage thereto having a polarity which is opposite to the direction of polarization of the transducer and contracts upon the application of a voltage having a polarity in the direction of the transducer polarization, has a charging circuit which connects the transducers in a rest state to a common voltage source having a polarity in the direction of polarization of the transducers so that the transducers assume a state of contracted diameter. The circuit further includes a discharging circuit operated by a control input for each transducer operable for discharging an ink droplet from the nozzles after ink is drawn into the channels by operation of the charging circuit.

  • Patent number: 4397557
Abstract: An optical arrangement for a light scattering type smoke detector has a radiation transmitter and receiver which are each preceded by a lens for obtaining a generally parallel field of view for each of the transmitter and receiver. The radiation is directed at a detection zone which is surrounded by diaphragms and the fields of view for the transmitter and receiver terminate in a light trap for preventing unwanted scattering and reflection. The transmitter and receiver are disposed at an acute angle with respect to each other and the receiver detects only back-scattered radiation from smoke particles in the detection area. This structure allows a relatively short structural length to be utilized along a common optical axis of the transmitter and receiver.

  • Patent number: 4398065
Abstract: A circuit arrangement determines the identity of a repeater in a telecommunications systems, in particular a telephone system, which, either individually or as one of several of a group, is permanently assigned to a specific zone of origin which is individually characterized by an incoming connection line. During establishment of a telephone connection, in particular an international telephone connection, or a connection foreign to the particular exchange, identification can be made individually in dependence upon the zone of origin of the calling subscriber and a control path, which serves to exchange signals, and which leads to a translator is established. The translator supplies, inter alia, information, for the ongoing connection establishment and for the assignment of a charge pulse train.

  • Patent number: 4398177
Abstract: For formation of features for automatic character recognition an image pattern memory matrix corresponding to a respective character is read-out analogous to a sampling at different sampling angles with a multitude of section lines proceeding in accordance with said sampling angles. The evaluation per sampling angle ensues in such manner that there are determined and supplied to a classifier for character recognition the number of the section lines intersecting the character at least once (sampling range); the sum of all section line intersections; the center of gravity of the sampling range; and the scatter within the sampling range.

  • Patent number: 4396996
Abstract: A monolithic static memory cell has two cross-coupled inverters each comprised of a series connection of a field effect switching transistor and a load element designed as a field effect transistor. The field effect transistors forming the load elements have their channel resistances of different values. A gate insulating layer of one of the load element field effect transistors has its charge state altered, preferably by electron beam writing, so that a change in a threshold voltage of the one transistor results in a change of its channel resistance relative to the channel resistance of the other load element transistor if it was under before the selective altering, or vice-versa.

  • Patent number: 4396596
Abstract: A method of preparing gamma ferric hydroxyoxide in which ferrous ions are reacted in an alkaline solution to produce a suspension of ferric hydroxide, the resulting suspension is treated with an oxidizing gas in a first oxidizing step at a relatively high oxidation rate, sufficient to cause nucleation of gamma ferric hydroxyoxide to occur, and then the oxidation rate is reduced in a second oxidizing step to cause crystal growth to occur on the nuclei formed in the first oxidizing step. The resulting product has magnetic and physical characteristics making it extremely suitable for use in the manufacture of magnetic recording media.
