  • Patent number: 4396992
Abstract: Keyboard apparatus, for example for a word processor comprises a standard alpha-numeric keyboard having an additional special key. On striking the spacer bar followed by a key corresponding to a letter and followed by the special key, the apparatus operates to print or to store for subsequent printing a predetermined complete word allocated to that particular letter. The words are predetermined according to their frequency of occurrence. For example, "v" may correspond to "very". If the striking of the letter key has not been immediately preceded by striking of the spacer bar, then the apparatus operates to print or to store for subsequent printing a predetermined word ending allocated to that particular letter. For example, "m" may correspond to "ment". The apparatus can also operate to incorporate capital letters where appropriate and to print or store for subsequent printing complete words in response to the non-alphabetic keys.

  • Patent number: 4395912
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, an ultrasonic array has an installation for dynamic focusing at least in the transmitting mode. It is the object of the disclosure to avoid excessively great time loss, and yet to permit dynamic focusing also in the transmitting mode. This object is achieved in that, in the case of a specifiable number of depth regions (with a respective fixed focusing in each depth region) preferably associated with each scanning line of the ultrasonic scanning, the transmitting/receiving cycle for each fixed focusing is progressively introduced in such a manner that, for every depth region of each such scanning line, transmission is effected at such a time-point which immediately follows, for example, that time interval in which echo information was received from the chronologically prior-scanned depth region for such scanning line.

  • Patent number: 4395206
Abstract: Conventional industry practice has been to provide apex seals along adjoining intersecting peripheral surfaces of the envelope members in trochoidal rotary devices. The trochoidal member profiles are then recessed by a seal offset amount and the seals extended from the apices of the envelope member by the seal offset amount to minimize reciprocation of the seals in their grooves. In accordance with the invention, modified epitrochoids and corresponding envelopes are formed so that sealing faces of the apex seals can be substantially continuous with the envelope peripheral surfaces. In this manner, nearly ideal expansion ratios are achievable in such rotary devices and wider sealing faces can be used than heretofore practical.

  • Patent number: 4395587
Abstract: A method and apparatus for representing characters employ a printing unit to print symbols which correspond to characters, the characters being represented either by individual printed symbols or by two or more symbols printed in sequence or two or more overstruck symbols. The characters to be printed are encoded into one or more data words, each data word having a code word associated therewith which is stored in one of three memories which serve to address the printing unit to represent a particular symbol or symbols. If a character is encoded by a single data word, this single data word is supplied to a first memory and if the corresponding code word is contained in the first memory, the code word is released to the printing unit and the symbol is printed. If the corresponding code word is not contained in the first memory, an address word for a second memory is read from the first memory, this address word containing the code words and associated positioning words for the character.

  • Patent number: 4395754
Abstract: A data processing system has virtual memory addressing and includes a buffer between the working memory and the central processor. The buffer includes a data buffer divided into a plurality of banks of identical size and a plurality of tag/flag memories respectively assigned to the data banks for storing the page address. The data buffer bank and the tag/flag memories are additionally addressed, beyond the page class address, with as many further, directly connected address bits of a virtual page address as are required for the binary addressing of the individual data buffer banks. The virtual partial addressing of the buffer provides a simple addressing for the case in which memory modules of the buffer banks have a capacity beyond the page size.

  • Patent number: 4395038
Abstract: A piling assembly for a sheet stacker utilizes air pressure to corrugate a paper sheet for stiffness and to transport the sheet from a conveyor onto a pile formed against a backstop. The assembly is comprised of a plurality of telescoping rods which overlie the sheet pile and issue air jets in a downward and lateral direction onto the upper surface of a sheet. The mechanism further includes a lift means situated beneath the sheet and directing air against the undersurface of the sheet, so that the sheet can float over the pile as the sheet is jogged against the backstop in the stacker. The backstop is made movable and the telescoping rods are adjustable to accommodate various lengths of sheet in the stacker.

  • Patent number: 4394760
Abstract: A process for monitoring analog and digital mobile radio connections is disclosed within the framework of a mobile radio network comprising a number of radio base stations in a mutual spatial arrangement in the form of a cellular system having overlapping radio ranges. A predetermined number of radio ranges, directly adjacent to one another, form a group of radio ranges in which the total number of available frequency channels is repeated. A simple functionally-reliable monitoring system provides that the useful signals transmitted in the specific time slots are radio range related information blocks which are time compressed and delayed at the transmitting end. Data block sequences containing monitoring signals are inserted into the time gaps which arise during time compression. At the receiving end, following the gating out of the data block sequences to a signal processing unit, the compressed received useful signal is fed to an expansion device.
