Patent number: 6537407Abstract: A process for the manufacture of a composite laminate which includes a thermoplastic film laminated to a substrate. The front surface of the film has a regular embossed pattern of protrusions which have a height in the range of 0.5 to 10 microns and a separation in the range 20 to 400 microns. The rear surface of the film confronts and is bonded to the substrate. The manufacturing process of the composite includes the steps of applying a layer of a melt adhesive between the rear surface of the film having a regular embossed pattern on its front surface and the substrate to form a composite, and running the composite of the film, the layer and the substrate between nip rollers to apply pressure to the composite whilst the adhesive is in a heated condition, so as to effect thermal lamination of the film to the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2000Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Acordis Acetate Chemicals LimitedInventors: Paul William Law, Tony Longdon, Donald Taylor, Gordon Willins

Patent number: 6538130Abstract: In the manufacture of viscose, and an elongate cellulose member such as standard viscose rayon fibre, with reduced alkali ratio from dissolving-grade cellulose such as wood pulp by irradiation with a high energy beam at a dose of 1-30 kGy, steeping in aqueous sodium hydroxide, pressing to form alkali cellulose, xanthating to form cellulose xanthate, dissolving in aqueous liquor to form viscose and (when elongate cellulose members are required) extruding through a die into an acid bath for coagulation and regeneration to form an elongate cellulose member which is then washed and dried, viscose filtration can be improved by including in the dissolving liquor for the cellulose xanthate an amount of from 200 to 10000 ppm by weight of a salt which consists of alkali metal or ammonium cations and anions of a strong acid.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2000Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Acordis Kelheim GmbHInventors: Klaus Fischer, Heinzhorst Möbius, Tatjana Poggi

Patent number: 6533691Abstract: Each link plate of a low noise silent chain has an inside meshing surface formed on the inside flank of each link tooth. The inside meshing surface includes a convexly arcuate mesh start portion disposed on a tip side of each link tooth, and a convexly arcuate mesh guide portion disposed on a root side of each link tooth. The arcuate mesh guide portion has a radius of curvature and a circular arc length which are greater than a radius of curvature and a circular arc length, respectively, of the convexly arcuate mesh start portion. When the silent chain engages a sprocket, the engagement proceeds smoothly and continuously from the inside meshing surface to the outside meshing surface. This contributes to the reduction of the noise level of the silent chain as a whole through suppression of meshing sound of the outside meshing surface and vibratory chain noise.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2001Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Tsubakimoto Chain Co.Inventors: Hiroshi Horie, Kazumasa Matsuno, Shigekazu Fukuda, Takayuki Funamoto, Yoshinori Iwasaki, Nobuto Kozakura, Toyonaga Saito

Patent number: 6529544Abstract: An electric resistance high temperature vacuum furnace having radiant heating units evenly spaced around the sides and ends of the furnace hot zone. Pairs of units are automatically regulated both radially and longitudinally according to the temperature required by the workload in the hot zone. The units each comprise parallel aligned elements electrically connected in series at their one ends. Each element has lengthwise surfaces angularly disposed from each other to form a beam structure of high section modulus for stiffness and resistance to sagging. Also, the angles of the element surfaces facing a heat-reflective assembly substantially enable all of the energy radiated toward the assembly to be reflected into the hot zone in addition to the direct radiation from the surfaces facing the hot zone. The furnace includes a re-circulating cooling system for rapid cooling of the furnace and workload.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2001Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Inventor: Lennie L. Ashburn
