Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus are provided for sorting particles in a stream of a sample in a flow cytometer by producing from a stable sort having desirable sort characteristics multiple images of a portion of the stream; generating from the multiple images an averaged numerical reference standard representative of the stable sort; continuously collecting during the sorting multiple running images of the portion of the stream; generating from the multiple running images at least one numerical sample average representative of the sample sort of each collection of the multiple running images; and comparing each numerical sample average to the numerical reference standard and determining whether a sample average exhibits a deviation from the reference standard that requires an adjustment of the sort. The sort may then be adjusted to eliminate or reduce the deviation and maintain the stable sort of the reference histogram. A novel imaging apparatus may be employed in a flow cytometer performing this method.

Abstract: In a shoe press apparatus of a papermaking machine, a press part comprises a roll which serves as a pressing member and a shoe. A belt is sandwiched between the roll and the shoe. A lubricant feeder supplies a lubricant from the outside of the shoe at the upstream side of the shoe. A lubricant holding section, comprising a plurality of grooves is provided on the upstream end of the shoe. Lubricant supplied from the lubricant feeder is held in the lubricant holding section of the shoe, and is more reliably supplied to the press part as the belt runs through the press part. The Structure of the lubricant holding section is comparatively simple, and the lubricant holding section decreases friction, thereby saving energy.
Abstract: A manufacturing method of ITO powder with tin dissolved in indium oxide, wherein the ITO powder is obtained by performing spray pyrolysis to a mixed solution or slurry of indium nitrate and tin chloride in which the concentration of indium and tin is 3.0 mol/L or more, thereby providing at low costs ITO powder superior in component dispersibility by dissolving tin in indium oxide as well as a precise target superior in uniformity. It is thereby possible to restrain the deterioration of quality or abnormal protrusions such as nodules in cases where the ITO sputtering target deposition is not uniform.
Abstract: A plastic blow molded bottle or wide mouth jar useful in containing hot-filled beverages or food products. The container has a multi-sided sidewall which is capable of accommodating vacuum associated with hot filling, capping and cooling of the container, which is reinforced to resist unwanted deformation, and which enables a label to be aesthetically displayed on the container sidewall. To this end, the sidewall comprises a plurality of panels which include outwardly bowed arcuate sections, as-formed, which flatten to accommodate induced vacuum. Thus, a label can be supported on the sidewall with very few voids, or like sunken areas, behind the label to ensure that the label is prominently displayed on the aesthetically appealing novel container configuration.

Abstract: In a shoe press belt of a papermaking machine, the part of the paper web-facing layer in which water-holding grooves are formed is composed of a surface sublayer, having a relatively low hardness, and an underlying layer having a relatively high hardness. The higher hardness of the underlying layer prevents cracks from forming where the cross-sectional shape of the grooves tends to change as the belt is compressed. The lower hardness of the surface sublayer prevents the formation of cracks as a result of forces acting on the belt in the direction opposite to the machine direction at the nip location in a papermaking machine.
Abstract: Gas is recovered from a landfill by introducing water into the landfill to promote digestion of organic matter in the landfill, and removing from the landfill gas produced by digestion. The improvement comprises the introduction of water as part of an aqueous foam, whereby the water is distributed more uniformly throughout the landfill. Iron salts may be included in the foam to eliminate hydrogen sulfide.

Abstract: In a tensioner for a timing belt or chain in an engine, a plunger, which is spring-biased in a protruding direction, is temporarily held in a retracted condition by a pivoted U-shaped or L-shaped wire spring. The spring has a locking portion engageable with a pin or groove on the plunger, and two arms having ends remote from the locking portion. The ends are pivoted to the housing on laterally displaced pivot axes. The lateral displacement of the pivot axes causes the wire spring to be under stress when its locking portion is engaged with the plunger, and the stress urges the locking portion toward a disengaged position. Thus, the plunger is held in its retracted condition during assembly by the locking portion of the wire spring, but is automatically released by disengagement of the locking portion from the plunger when the plunger is moved farther in the retracting direction.
Abstract: A stabilization reagent composition, particularly desirable for stabilizing blood samples containing platelets, contains reactants that generate multiple species of formaldehyde-ammonium complexes; at least one inhibitor of phosphatase enzymatic activity; and at least one inhibitor of protease enzymatic activity. Abstract: A control device for a steering kite on a boat. The steering kite can be steered by a steering device and at least two or three, preferably at least four or five, suspension lines. The control device comprises at least one force introduction rail that extends horizontally over the water line and on which a deviation device for the suspension lines is positioned in such a way that it can move back and forth. The rail is fixed to the boat between the steering kite and the steering device in such a way that the traction force of the steering kite produces torque about the longitudinal axis and/or the transverse axis of the boat in the water, by means of which the leeward side of the boat is lifted upwards.
Abstract: A silent chain transmission mechanism includes a sprocket and a silent chain having link interleaved link rows each composed of plural randomly selected link plates and connected together by connecting pins. The outside dimensions of the link plate are smaller than the outside dimensions of a link, but the outside dimensions of the link match the design reference dimensions of a link plate capable of proper meshing with the sprocket. The requirement for manufacturing accuracy and the effort required for assembly of the silent chain are reduced. However, the silent chain travels on the sprocket on the chain traveling line so that improved noise, vibration and friction properties, and traveling stability are realized.

Abstract: An intermediary system between advertisers and producers of articles of commerce facilitates the use of the articles or their containers or wrappers to carry advertising matter so that the producers of the articles become advertising space providers. Terminals of numerous advertisers and terminals of advertising space providers are able to connect to a host computer at a management center through a global communications network. Advertisers and advertising space providers enter and store their respective advertising conditions and advertising space information in a database in the host computer, which then provides access enabling the advertisers to search for suitable advertising space and enabling space providers to search for suitable candidates for the use of their advertising space.
